2. Definition
A repeat breeder cow is defined as one
That has been bred 3 or more times but not
conceived
Has normal estrous cycle
Is free from palpable abnormalities
Has no abnormal vaginal discharge
Is less than 10 years old
4. Fertilization Failure
• Account for about 15 percent of reproductive
wastage in normal cows
• In repeat breeder cows. The fertilization failure
may be higher around 28-44 percent
10. Sub-Clinical Endometritis
Non detected endometritis is a common case
℞
Intra-uterine antibiotic therapy day after
insemination.
10 lakh IU penicillin or 1 gm streoptopenicillin
should be dissolved in 20-30 ml of distilled water
Pre AI treatment should be given 5-6 hours before
AI while post AI treatment should be given 3-6
hours after AI
Parental antibiotic(streptopenicillin 2.5gm)
should be given on day 4 and day 10
12. Insufficient Corpous Luteum
Function
Insufficient progesteron production or early
regression of corpous luteum will cause early
embryonic death and return to oestrus
℞
Injection of GnRH at the time of estrous/ AI
treatment with progesteron
implant(norgesteron 3mg, crester) 4 days after
AI. And is to be removed after 12 days
13. Early Embryonic Death
• Account for 25% of reproductive wastage
• Major portion of embryonic death occurs
between day 8 and 16 after breeding
• Most of the embryo death occurs before the
critical stage of pregnancy recognition and the
cow will return to estrous at the normal 18-25
days interval.
14. External factors: Stress like pain and long
transportation etc
Malnutrition: season and climate like summer
Maternal factors
Progesteron deficiency
Uterine infection
Embryonic factors like chromosomal
abnormalities
Genetic factor
15. Weak Embryo
Cannot exert recognition signal in due time
℞
Injection of GnRH at 12-14 days of
insemination
16. Conclusion
• Control of uterine infection
• Correct negative energy balance
• Correct timing of AI
• Assure quality semen
