2. Convergence in ‘Attack the black’
Convergence is when two media companies come together.(e.g A mobile
phone is mainly used for calling people however could also be used as a
camera or an mp3 player etc)
In attack the block they have animations of which there are aliens. Therefore
to create these aliens and bring them to life in the film the film industry have to
work with CGI.
The film writer/director said ‘’We actually used CGI to take away detail, rather
than add it. Plus, I love all those '80s creature-features like Gremlins and Critters
and ET. You know, I loved ET - he was rubber, but I loved him. And there's
something about puppeteering, about having a person actually creating the
movement. A performer, for me, is always better than animation. When it's put
together with live-action kind of thing, I think it works best. So, yeah, we were
trying to go old-school.’’ Therefore their partnership with CGI helped create the
alien images as well as the spaceships. Making non realistic things look real.
3. Synergy in ‘Attack the Block’
Synergy is process why which media institutions use a range of platforms to
promote ,sell and distribute their products.
Attack the block was on 352 screens which the became third in the box
office results. This amount of screens would constitute as a wide release.
Some other examples of Synergy for Attack the Block:- DVD- Blue- Ray-
Soundtrack- Game
4. Convergence in ‘Super8’
In Super8 the main convergence they use is CGI. To create the Alien
creature, the CGI was also used for many other clips in the film such as the
crash of the train.
5. Synergy in ‘Super8’
Super8 had created a commercial
success, grossing some $260 million
against a $50 million budget. Which
proves that it can an impact on the film.
The film was released on Blu-ray and DVD
on November 22, 2011.The release was
produced as a combo pack with a Digital
Copy, including nine bonus features and
fourteen deleted scenes.
6. A comparison between ‘Attack the
block’ and ‘Super8’
In comparison both movies are Alien based science fiction movies. Both
movies made success however Super8 which is an American film had
made more profit. Both films use convergence that included CGI for the
same subject of creating an Alien creature.
Attack the Block which is a British film was quite a success as they used
more synergy to promote their film. Whereas Super8 had not promoted
their film as much as Attack the Block.
Super8 had also a higher budget of $50 million with the filming to Attack
the block which was £8 million.
Box office $259,936,677 Super8
£3,831,475 Attack the block
7. The benefits of convergence and
synergy in a film
CONVERGENCE- the benefits of convergence in film is
that it makes the films more effective and dramatic with
the different effects using different technology's that
work with the film. I find that with Alien related science
fiction films especially with using CGI creates a more
exciting image.
SYNERGY-Synergy helps advertise the film itself and
therefore help to increase the film's sales.
