2. Introduction My chosen music video is by Usher and is called “There goes my baby”. The video is part of the album Raymond v. Raymond and was released on 15th June 2010. The video is directed by Anthony Mandler and has a time length of 4 minutes and 44 seconds. The song is about Usher’s love for his girlfriend. During the song he talks about how pretty she is and how much he loves her. He expresses his feelings for her through the lyrics continuously and compliments her beauty throughout the entire song.
3. Type of Video The music video can be seen as a Performance video, as the artist himself sings in front of the camera but doesn’t play any instruments. At the same time it can also be perceived as a narrative video as the lyrics are visually shown. Throughout the video we see some narrative and some performance which completes the video as a Narrative/Performance video. Furthermore, it can be argued that there is an obvious connection between the lyrics and the video, as the video is about both of them being in love. As we do not see the lyrics being visualised on camera it is hard to say that there may be an obvious link to the lyrics and the video.
4. Target Audience I believe this video is targeted at teenagers and adults, 16 and over. It could be argued that it is specifically targets at females as this is quite a sexual and romantic song. However, arguably it can also be targeted at males as both females and males like ‘RnB’ as their favourite music genre.
5. The Artist and The Video Throughout the video, the camera is focused on the artist, it is only when he is talking about his girl, the camera jump cuts to her for 3-4 seconds and then jumps back to the artist. A lot of the screen time is given to the artist because the song is performed as a Performance/Narrative videos where the audience will expect to see their artist There is a soft and romantic atmosphere created in the video which puts the audience in a mood that attracts them to watch the video. As the artist sings quite softly, the action taking place on the screen is also slowly done.
