This document discusses the codes and conventions of music videos and analyzes four music videos: Locked Up, Billionaire, 16 at War, and Written in the Stars. For each video, it identifies good points and areas for improvement, and analyzes how well the video fits the genre of the song. In general, the document evaluates technical aspects like shot types, emotions, and resolutions as well as consistency between the video and song's genre.

2. CODES AND CONVENTIONS

Codes and conventions are features that makes a
music video. For example it allows the audience
know what type of techniques & shots),- Symbolic
(i.e. clothing, colours) there are.

3. LOCKED UP MUSIC VIDEO
Good points: the story fitted the song in the music
video, the story of the song was good there were
different shot types used and the opacity of the
music was really good.
 Improvements: the music video would have been
better if they used a uniform for the locked up
prisoner,(track suits and t-shirt would be fine). The
prisoners need to show more emotion and they
needed to make sure all performances were good.
 How it fitted the genre of the music: the genre fitted
the music well as they used the type of things that
they will used for a hip hop/ R’n’B


4. BILLIONAIRE MUSIC VIDEO
Good points: the emotion of the singer in the music
video was very good, there facial expression was
also really good. They showed that the song was all
about dreams and hope. The music videos ending
showed that the resolution was good.
 Improvements: the aspect radio was strange
(footage was squashed) and also they needed to
improve on there lighting as it was really bad.
 How it fitted the genre of the music: the music video
fitted the genre as they showed that they are having
fun time with there facial expression as hip hop
song. The resolution of the music video was very
neat that also fitted with genre.


5. 16 AT WAR MUSIC VIDEO
Good points: the music video had quite a few good
parts with the girl and her facial expression and the
fact that she was looking the mirror showed how
stressful it is to be 16 at war
 Improvements: through the music video the girl
looked at the camera which isn't good as it shows
the audience that she knows she’s being recorded.
The music video got really boring at the end as they
keep on repeating the shot types and they kept on
filming in the same places.
 How it fitted the genre of the music video: her facial
expression went with genre R’n’B and also the song
showed that it was R’n’B


6. WRITTEN IN THE STARS MUSIC VIDEO
Good points: the different scenes of the music
video was good when the boy was rapping they had
another scene on show at the same time. The
singer emotion was very passionate and the fact
that they used a piano showed all that passion.
 Improvements: they lip singing wasn’t as good as it
should be and the shot types wasn’t very
professional for a R’n’B music video.


How it fitted the genre of the music: the music video
had nothing got to do with R’n’B and the resolution
of the music video wasn’t very effective, which
didn’t necessarily fit with genre.
