Impact Conversation 1 TEACHER’S MANUAL
HOW TO USE THIS TEACHER’S MANUAL
This manual will help you use Impact Conversation 1 effectively, guiding you to get the maximum learning value out
of each unit. We recommend that you skim over the Teacher’s Manual for each unit before teaching, highlighting the
points you want to emphasize during your class.
This Manual provides support in several ways:
UNIT OVERVIEW
The Unit Overview gives you a snapshot of the content for the main sections of the unit:
• Converation Starters
• Building Fluency
• Conversation Model
• Let’s Talk About It
In this Overview section you will also fine a list of Conversation Idioms used in the unit. We also provide an Internet
link for additional listening practice on a similar topic.
TEACHING PROCEDURES STEPS FOR GOING THROUGH THE UNIT
There are 8 Steps for going through the main units. This Teacher’s Manual gives you procedures and options to
support you as you work through each unit.
STEP 1 BUILDING THE ATMOSPHERE
Estimated time: 5 minutes
• Ideas for using the “Erik and Amy” audio to set the tone for the class. Includes the full script of the audio.
STEP 2 CONVERSATION STARTERS
Estimated time: 20 minutes
• Suggestions for setting up and checking the First Listening and Second Listening tasks. Includes sample instructions
you can use, full scripts and Answer Keys.
STEP 3 BUILDING FLUENCY
Estimated time: 15 minutes
• Procedures and alternatives for using the three sections of Building Fluency: (1) Expressions, (2) Vocabulary, and
(3) Let’s Practice. Also includes Answer Keys.
STEP 4 CONVERSATION MODEL
Estimated time: 15 minutes
• Options for setting up (1) Situation, (2) Substitution, and (3) Practice. Includes an explanation of the “How the
Pronuncation Works” box and Extra Pronunciation Points taken from the Conversation Model.
STEP 5 LET’S TALK ABOUT IT
Estimated time: 20 minutes
• Procedures for using the three sections of the main speaking activity of the unit: (1) Get Ready, (2) Let’s Talk, and
(3) Follow up. Includes optional Warm Ups and Bonus Activities.
STEP 6 LANGUAGE AWARENESS
Estimated time: 20-30 minutes (homework)
• Suggested procedure and Answer Key for the exercise.
STEP 7 LEARNING TIP
Estimated time: 5-10 minutes
• Options for making use of Erik or Amy’s Learning Tip at the end of each unit.
STEP 8 UNIT TEST
Estimated time: 15 minutes
• Procedures for using the Unit Test (available at http://www.elttestcenter.com); Test Center provides duplicable test,
Audio files, plus Answer Keys.

Impact Conversation 1 TEACHER’S MANUAL HOW TO USE THIS TEACHER’S MANUAL This manual will help you use Impact Conversation 1 effectively, guiding you to get the maximum learning value out of each unit. We recommend that you skim over the Teacher’s Manual for each unit before teaching, highlighting the points you want to emphasize during your class. This Manual provides support in several ways: UNIT OVERVIEW The Unit Overview gives you a snapshot of the content for the main sections of the unit: • Converation Starters • Building Fluency • Conversation Model • Let’s Talk About It In this Overview section you will also fine a list of Conversation Idioms used in the unit. We also provide an Internet link for additional listening practice on a similar topic. TEACHING PROCEDURES STEPS FOR GOING THROUGH THE UNIT There are 8 Steps for going through the main units. This Teacher’s Manual gives you procedures and options to support you as you work through each unit. STEP 1 BUILDING THE ATMOSPHERE Estimated time: 5 minutes • Ideas for using the “Erik and Amy” audio to set the tone for the class. Includes the full script of the audio. STEP 2 CONVERSATION STARTERS Estimated time: 20 minutes • Suggestions for setting up and checking the First Listening and Second Listening tasks. Includes sample instructions you can use, full scripts and Answer Keys. STEP 3 BUILDING FLUENCY Estimated time: 15 minutes • Procedures and alternatives for using the three sections of Building Fluency: (1) Expressions, (2) Vocabulary, and (3) Let’s Practice.
