4. What is personal
protective equipment
(PPE)?
Personal proctective eqiument (PPE) is any device or
material created to protect the wearer or users from
injury or contamination.
The hazards addressed by protective equipment can
range from infectious diseases to arc flash, from
bloodborne pathogens to contact with hot surfaces,
fluids or heavy metals.
It’s important to note that PPE doesn’t just protect
workers — it protects people in the surrounding area as
well.
PPE is a critical part of any worker’s toolkit because it
helps them do their job safely and effectively without
worrying about getting hurt or making mistakes due to
being distracted by their own safety concerns.
5. Personal protective equipment (PPE) represents clothing or
an apparatus worn by employees to keep them from
physical impact, fire, or chemicals and shows the latest way
of defense. Although the removal of hazard is the first
precedence, it has been guessed that human fault is a
contributing feature in 84% to 94% of industrial damage
cases and one of the most widespread defects is the
neglect to wear suitable PPE.
According to OSHA, the proper use of PPE can prevent
37.6% of occupational injuries and diseases. 12%–14% of
occupational injuries resulting in total disability are caused
by employees not wearing appropriate PPE.

protective equipment (PPE) in
occupational health and safety
6. Where and when we
should use PPE?
There are two types of PPE: Class I and Class II. Class I
PPE includes items such as hard hats and safety shoes.
Class II PPE includes items such as gloves and eye
protection.
PPE must always be used when working with
chemicals or other substances which could cause
harm if they come into contact with human skin, eyes
or lungs. This type of equipment is usually required for
cleaning processes within factories where equipment
is cleaned after use with chemicals like steam or
solvents.
In some cases, workers may also need to wear
protective clothing (such as overalls) when
handling hazardous materials or chemicals in
order to prevent any spillages from causing harm
or damage to their clothes.
Insulating boots and gloves are also essential for
ensuring electrical and high voltage safety, and
can protect the wearer should an electrical shock
from equipment or machinery occur.
8. Head Protection
Chainsaw safety helmet,
unlike standard hard hats, are
designed for these arborist
and forestry specific dangers
and provide not only impact
protection but usually come
with visors and ear muffs to
protect the eyes, face and
ears. chainsaw safety helmet
are make to provide full
protection to the workers
from strong head impacts,
electric injuries and injury
penetration, which can be
caused by falling of heavy
objects,. it can prevent
injuries to the head and
brain, protecting against
falling objects or debris,
impact with other objects,
electric shock and rain.
Plastic Industrial Helmet
Plastic industrial helmet are
widely used in construction,
mining other fields. Safety
helmets (also known as hard
hats) are make to provide full
protection to the workers
from strong head impacts,
electric injuries and injury
penetration, which can be

9. Uv Protective Eyewear
Eye&Face Protection
Uv protective eyewear is one
type of personal protective
equipment. having UV
protection on your glasses
means that the lenses they’re
equipped with can guard
against the sunlight’s uv rays,
and protect your eyes
outdoors, may help prevent
the damage uv radiation can
do to your eyes.
These ergonomically
designed safety goggles
deliver protection against
moderate impact hazards
and liquid splash. The clear
lenses allow for maximum
visibility to ensure user
hazard awareness. When
worn properly, goggles will
protect the eyes and
surrounding skin from
forcefully propelled liquids
coming from any direction
above, below, beside, or
behind to wearer.
Protective Safety Goggles
Medical safety goggles are
required to have stronger,
more durable frames than
typical eyeglasses. The frames
should also be designed to
prevent the lenses from
being pushed into the
wearer’s eyes during an
accident, and must offer side
protection.In medical
environments, safety goggles
are typically a better choice
for eye protection.
Medical Safety Goggles
Face shields are known to be
one of the important
protective and safe devices
used by different people in
different working
environments. For instance,
doctors, dentals, veterinaries,
laboratories among others.
This is for protection of their
facial areas and associated
parts (eyes, nose, and mouth)
from all possible dangers
such as splashes, spatter of
body fluids, chemicals and
other harmful things.

10. Hearing Protection
Pu foam earplugs, usually
made from polyvinyl chloride
(PVC) or polyurethane (PU)
(memory foam) that are
compressed into a tube and
inserted into the ear canal.
They then expand to fill the
hole. All types of culture
containers can be stopped
with foam plugs, which are
open-celled plastic plugs.
Moreover, the plugs are non-
toxic, non-absorbent,
completely breathable, and
autonomously sterilizable.
Industrial workplace ear
muffs are a type of personal
protective equipment (PPE)
that protect the wearer’s ears
from noise pollution, dust or
extremes in temperature,
especially cold. In most cases,
these cups are attached to
the outer edges of a steel or
plastic headband to fit over
top of the ears and cover
them tightly. High density
sponge, soft and comfortable
to wear, greater noise
reduction ability. anti noise
earmuffs protect against
potential hearing damage.

11. Welding gloves are by far the
best heat-resistant gloves on
the market, providing
workers with protection from
extreme heat, sparks, and
some molten splashes. The
gloves allow digit articulation
while providing protection
from electrical shock,
extreme heat, ultraviolet and
infrared radiation, as well as
abrasion resistance and a
better grip.
Heat Resistant Welding
Gloves
Stainless steel gloves are used
in industries such as textile
cutting and sheet metal
fabrication. In food
processing, anyone who uses
a hand knife or cleans/moves
a slicer blade can (should)
wear a stainless steel glove.
The purpose of safety gloves
is to protect the wearer’s
hands from cuts when
working with sharp tools.
Metal mesh gloves, cut-and-
sewn gloves, and seamless
knitted gloves fall into these
categories.
Stainless Steel Gloves
Leather Safety Gloves
Hand Protection
In today’s market, most
leather driver gloves used to
protect against an abrasion
are made from cowhide,
because thinner leather
allows for more movement of
the hands while still
providing protection. Metal
mesh, leather, or canvas
gloves can protect your
hands from cuts and burns.
Leather or canvas gloves can
also protect against sustained
heat. Additionally, leather
gloves protect against sparks,
moderate heat, blows, chips,
and rough objects.
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC)
gloves, also known as vinyl
exam gloves, are sometimes
provided by hospitals as an
affordable option for
examination gloves. Polyvinyl
chloride (PVC) protects
against many acids, caustics,
bases, and alcohols.
Chemical-resistant PVC
gloves are generally resistant
to abrasion, but they are
susceptible to cuts. PVC
gloves provide adequate
protection against stronger
acids and bases as well as
salts, alcohols, and water
solutions, making them
perfect for tasks involving
these kinds of materials or
when handling wet objects.

12. White nurse clogs is very
comfortable to wear, being
super lightweight and have
padded tongue and collars
for extreme comfort
throughout the day. the PU
sole are oil and acid resistant
and highly resistant to slip
while working on slippy
surfaces.

Steel toe gumboots are boots made
of polyvinyl chloride, a plastic-based
polymer, and formed by injection
molding. This results in a boot that is
highly waterproof, lightweight and
quite durable, steel toe gumboots
are less expensive than rubber boots.
steel toe gumboots help prevent a
wide range of injuries, not just
injuries from falling objects. They can
also help prevent injuries due to slips
and falls cuts/lacerations and burns,
and punctures. A sturdy safety boot
makes it more difficult for injuries
such as these to occur.

Foot Protection
Safety shoes is a durable shoe
that has a protective
reinforcement in the toe which
protects the foot from falling
objects or compression. it help
prevent a wide range of injuries,

13. A cotton Safety fr coverall is a
protective garment designed
to resist and avoid fire
injuries. Workers can avoid
injuries by wearing flame-
resistant protective clothing.
The flame retardant
protective clothing should
have excellent protection
standards and protection
levels.

Antistatic work suits are very
popular among workers. Work
suits consist of separate tops and
trousers. The purpose of a work
suit is to protect workers from
different types of hazards. A work
suit protects your legs, chest,
shoulders, and arms from harsh
weather conditions, chemicals,
liquid splashes, dirt, grease, and
fire. Work suits are typically
fastened up the front with a
zipper, button, snap, or velcro,
and have pockets and tool loops.

14. Mining gas mask are air-
purifying respirators that can
protect against several types
of dusts, gases, vapors, sprays,
fumes, and fumes. To provide
respiratory protection against
various airborne
contaminants, full face gas
mask are used in conjunction
with filters and cartridges.
The full-face mask protects
against hazardous particles,
gases, as well as providing
protection for the eyes with a
panoramic protective screen.
FFP2 masks are considered
Personal Protective
Equipment (PPE), as they
protect the person wearing
them against particulates
such as dust droplets,
particles, and aerosols.

15. The fall protection safety
harness prevents a person
from falling from a height
when it is worn. By wearing
the safety belt or safety
harness the risk of injury from
a fall is greatly reduced. If the
user loses their balance, the
harness ensures they will not
hit the ground because they
are attached to a stationary
object. One of the most
common causes of personal
injury at the workplace is
falling from a height.
A lanyard connects a body
harness to an anchor or to a
horizontal or vertical lifeline in a
personal fall arrest system
(PFAS). Lanyards are usually
made of synthetic webbing or
rope, or wire rope, with
attached connectors such as
snaphooks, carabiners, or other
devices. A safety lanyard is used
when working at heights to
connect a harness to a secure
anchor point, preventing the
wearer from falling. With a
safety harness and a shock-
absorbing lanyard, it can
regulate deceleration, which
prevents a serious injury when
you reach the end of the rope.

16. In the light of this informations, it is not difficult to
imagine a business world where employees use
personal protective equipment. We can prevent
serious injuries and deaths by anticipating risks and
using personal protective equipments.
