Argumentative Essay On Smokers
As a smoker I know the dangers of smoking. From the harmful effects on the human body, to the resulting pollution and waste; smoking is a nasty and
lethal habit. We need a smokeā€“free world because smoking harms smokers, nonsmokers, and the environment. Smoking is a significant problem for
smokers. The problem is that tobacco products are the leading cause of preventable deaths. Did you know that 67% of smokers perish from smoking
ā€“related illnesses? Tobacco smoke boosts the risk for 13 different types of cancer: lungs, esophagus, larynx, mouth, throat, kidneys, bladder, liver,
stomach, cervix, colon, rectum, and blood. Almost 70% of smokers want to quit, and around 43% try each year. However, many smokers don't have
the knowā€“how or the willpower to kick the habit for good. Over twoā€“thirds of smokers who quit for a short period of time will relapse and take up
smoking again. Smokers could involve themselves in behavioral therapy. Behavioral therapy involves working with a counselor to find ways not to
smoke. Together you'll find your triggers, emotions or situations that make you want to smoke, and explore options to get through the cravings. But the
danger isn't only for smokers, secondhand smoke can affect anyone.
Smoking pollution harms the environment. Many smokers believe smoking only damages their health. They are ignoring the fact that their smoking is
indirectly affecting others health. Smoking causes air pollution and to some extent also pollutes the ground; even

Thesis Statement On Smoking
Smoking cigarettes can have such an harmful effect on the individuals who abuse it and the people who are in around them. A cigarette abuser is
likely to become addicted to the drug resulting the person to face with lung cancer. There are many close people in my life who are trying their hardest
to quit this specific addiction. Making it ridiculously easy for me to identify and choose the topic in which I chose. Although, before I chose my
original topic I had to focus directly on "tools" and strategies that could possibly help individuals quit smoking. Instead of my initial topic thesis
statement which was "Smoking cigarettes can be prevented and there are various tools to help quit smoking." My final thesis statement for the this
specific final project is now "Smoking can lead to various diseases although a nicotine patch, nasal spray, and vaporizers are the best tools to help quit
smoking."
My plan was to go in depth in my research and find valuable information relating to my topic. In the beginning, I was extremely confident in my
abilities to learn which tools will help the best to quit smoking and had no doubt in my mind that I wouldn't be able to get it all figured out. I've
investigated several different sources. Some of the sources I checked out fit perfectly with my topic and a couple other sources we're awfully helpless
during my research. After lots of tough thinking about what source I'm going to choose I decided to pick sources that have the most scholarly

Introduction
People smoke mostly in the form of cigarette. Some people use even cigar, pipes etc. All these contain dried leaves of tobacco plant. A cigarette or any
such thing is made for the purpose of inhaling smoke. It contains a harmful substance 'nicotine'. Tobacco is an agricultural product, grown in the farms.
Farmers get good income by growing the tobacco as an agricultural plant. Tobacco is also used in preparation of some medicines. But when tobacco is
used just for pleasure, is harmful to life.
Smoking causes many harmful diseases like lung cancer, emphysema, heart attacks, high blood pressure, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
and can lead to birth effects. Some people smoke...show more content...
How do cigarettes damage health?
Cigarettes contain more than 4000 chemical compounds and at least 400 toxic substances.
When you inhale, a cigarette burns at 700Š’Ā°C at the tip and around 60Š’Ā°C in the core. This heat breaks down the tobacco to produce various toxins.
As a cigarette burns, the residues are concentrated towards the butt.
The products that are most damaging are:
tar, a carcinogen (substance that causes cancer)
nicotine is addictive and increases cholesterol levels in your body
carbon monoxide reduces oxygen in the body
components of the gas and particulate phases cause chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD).
The damage caused by smoking is influenced by:
the number of cigarettes smoked
whether the cigarette has a filter
how the tobacco has been prepared.
Smoking affects how long you live
Research has shown that smoking reduces life expectancy by seven to eight years.
Of the 300 people who die every day in the UK as a result of smoking, many are comparatively young smokers.
The number of people under the age of 70 who die from smokingā€“related diseases exceeds the total figure for deaths caused by breast cancer, AIDS,
traffic accidents and drug addiction.
Nonā€“smokers and exā€“smokers can also look forward to a healthier old age than smokers.

It is passive smoking when nonā€“smokers are exposed to secondhand smoke ("Secondhand smoke," 2011).. When they inhale secondhand smoke, they
take in nicotine and other chemicals just like the smokers do ("Secondhand smoke," 2011). According to the quittersguide, "secondhand smoke
immediately affects the heart and blood circulation, and over time it causes heart disease and lung cancer" (quittersguide, 2008).
Smoking is mostly caused by the sociocultural factor. They smoke because they need to fit in with their social group who smoke (Cortes, 2011). It is
because some think when you are smoking cigarettes, you would look cool. For teens, they smoke because they want to attain adult status (Cortes,
1998). Some teens think that if you smoke cigarettes, you would look mature because normally, adults smoke but now even teens do it. Sometimes,
they learn how to smoke because of curiosity. A YouthTobacco Survey by the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) Philippine Chapter has
been conducted among grade school and high school students in Metro Manila. Dr. Lopez said that "the DOH survey found that an estimated 42 per
cent students have tried smoking cigarettes, with 15 per cent admitting they smoked their first stick

Ban Smoking in Public Places Smoking is one of the leading causes of preventable deaths in the United States, and doing it in public is even worse
because smokers not only harm themselves, but also those around them. I remember how my great uncle would always smoke in his house regardless
of his surroundings. When his daughter visited him for a vacation, she brought her three year old daughter with her. The baby was healthy before
coming to her grandpa's house, but in less than two weeks, she had developed ear infections and started to cough. When they went to the doctors' office
to find out how she had gotten it, the doctor linked it back to the second hand smoke that she was breathing in. When my great uncle found out about it,

According to Tree Hugger, cigarette butts have been found inside the stomachs of birds and fishes (McLaren). It is horrible to know that some of the
fishes that we have eaten may have been contaminated by cigarette butts. Though many smokers already know of the health risks that come with
smoking cigarettes, but what most of them do not, is how secondhand smoking can affect other people. "Breathing in low doses of secondhand
smoke can increase a person's risk of heart attack" according to a study by Dr. Meyers, a professor of Cardiology and Preventive Medicine at
University of Kansas (Sciencedaily.com). Smokers should not risk nonā€“smokers for something that they do. In continuation of Dr. Meyers' study is
that, "secondhand smoking increases the likelihood of a heart attack by making the blood "sticky", making it more prone to clotting, and reducing the
amount of good cholesterol in the body" (Sciencedaily.com). Nonā€“smokers should not be worrying about paying more medical bills, especially in
today's economic situation. Many businesses provide health insurance to their employees. According to a statistical data collected by Live Strong,
employers spend an extra $49 million in medical costs for employees who are exposed to secondhand smoking in their jobs (Nelson). Employers
would be able to hire more people with the money that is being used to pay for medical bills that could be prevented. Smoking banned in

What if you were to live in a place where our government debts weren't severe? What about living in a world with a cleaner atmosphere? Would you
want to have excessive Carbon Dioxide and other harmful chemicals in the air? This applies to our world and many wish this could happen, but with
one easy solution that is beneficial to many, it can happen. Smoking should be banned because it harms the environment, affects our body in a
negative way, and is a burden to our economy. Smoking should be outlawed because its effects on our environment are extremely deleterious. It is
one of the main causes of environmental pollution. Daily, millions of cigarettes are left on the floor, which ends up in the river. It can harm our
waterways and can also harm our soil. Nevertheless, trees are wasted in the process as well ("Have Your Say | Should Smoking Be Banned?"). About
fifteen billion packs are sold daily, and to produce 300 cigarettes, a tree is wasted. In addition, 13 million acres are used to grow tobacco. Imagine what
we can do with those acres, and maybe grow crops for the millions of poor or the homeless. ("Smoking") The U.S tobacco industry produces 16
million tons of Carbon Dioxide yearly. For comparison, a car produces 4 million times less. Imagine what our world would be if everyone stopped, a
better and cleaner environment. In addition, there are approximately 4,000 chemicals in a single cigarette. Imagine how these harmful chemicals, like

Unhealthy environment, smoke screens and empty wallets are a few problems someone might have when he enters a pub. On the one hand, itŠ’Ņ‘s
required to have at least one nonā€“smoking area in every pub, but on the other hand itŠ’Ņ‘s usually a small part of it. It could be a big problem for
nonā€“smokers, because they are bigger in number than seats for them. A good hopefulness for nonā€“smokers is that smoking in pubs has been already

ItŠ’Ņ‘s a European Union action to curb smoking, but a result of this measure is not clear. There is still a high number of smokers. Prices arenŠ’Ņ‘t a good
way to protect nonā€“smokers because smokers will always find money for their habit. So a question is if prohibition of smoking in pubs can decrease
the number of smokers. Maybe yes, maybe no, but itŠ’Ņ‘s totally clear that nonā€“smokers will be protected from breathing smoke and destroying their
health. There are tough antiā€“smoking laws in a whole in east of Europe, but people have accustomed by that. We live in a modern world so we should
be aware of dangers of smoking and pay attention to nonā€“smokers too. There are still many people, who think that smoking in pubs shouldnŠ’Ņ‘t be
prohibited. They have an opinion that they should have a right to smoke at places where nonā€“smokers are not forced to be. While this argument may be
true, people should respect each other. We are all humans and we should learn how to be tolerant. It canŠ’Ņ‘t be very hard for smokers to stand up and go
out of a pub and light a cigarette there. ItŠ’Ņ‘s about peopleŠ’Ņ‘s mind, they should realize that they donŠ’Ņ‘t endanger only their health, but also everyone
who is around them. As is known, smoking is the biggest killer of mankind. Unfortunately, there are still many people, who donŠ’Ņ‘t realize it. Finally,
smokers are destroying their health by visiting smoky pubs.

Smoking in Public Places Cigarettes are the deadliest artefact in history's civilization, and for over twoā€“thousand years, tobacco has been used. It was
first seen in the sixteenth century, in the America's. When the Europeans came to America the consumption and trading of tobacco spread rapidly.
After farming became industrialized, the cigarette was made. Smoking was thought of as a healing practice. As it grew more and more popular it was
used for social purposes (Wilbert 3). At meals they would smoke during to create a more social surround. First they used it for Shamanistic rituals.
Shamanistic rituals are rituals that give access, and influence to spirits that makes people enter into a "trance". For them, smoking was a part of life,
given to them for help and healing. It was not until the 1950's that it was brought up that tobacco smoke could be harmful. Lung cancer became highly
popular, so scientists concluded many experiments and studies, that all linked to tobacco use. But, at the end of 1960 only Š²ā€¦ā€œ of doctors believed
that the case of cigarettes had been established. In today's world, 15 of every 100 people over eighteen smoke cigarettes. Which is an estimated 36.5
million people in all of the United States. With new eā€“cigarettes and different smoking tools, people of young ages have engaged in smoking to boost
popularity, and to go along with other kids. With the rise of the smoking industry, more than 16 million americans live with a smoking related disease.
Cigarettes cause 1.5 million deaths a year, and will rise to over 20 million by the years 2020ā€“2030. Among men, there are 278,544 deaths a year. For
women, there are 201,733 each year. This shows how smoking does not target any gender. Once someone is addicted to smoking it is hard to get
away from it. Gusts of smoke not only flows through your nose with a pungent smell, but it will also work its way through your body and utilize all
its diseases it can to harm bodies. Knowing this information, it is clear; smoking bans should be set in public places to create a healthy environment.
Taking effect on smoking bans in public places boosts people's health, and increases the desire to go out.

Our modern world looks for ways to get out of a stressful situation, or just to put it on pause to find a way to get the stress off our shoulders. People
try to find ways to just let the stress leave without fixing the problem. So they go towards a product that won't fix the problem but makes them feel
better. My first ad is about Tobacco. The ad takes place in a courtroom, filled with many lawyers and business people stating their cases. The tobacco
businesses are arguing, on how cigarettes, nicotine, and any type of tobacco is not addictive. They were trying to be able to get their ads back on TV
to sell more tobacco items, but society is fighting the tobacco people on it because the tobacco companies are lying to the public saying that tobacco
and nicotine is not addictive and good for you. When cigarettes are one of the most addictive things and worst things you could do to your body. The
cigarette business owners were all under oath and they lied trying to persuade people to think that nicotine is not addictive. Many people fight to ban
products with nicotine because people who smoke could began to have many health issues. Research from the video says more people die from
breathing in secondhand smoke then people that actually use nicotine. The use of nicotine just affects everything you do,for example if you want to go
smoke you have to leave the building to go smoke. It also affects your physical attractiveness because the use of cigarettes or chewing tobacco your

Eating fast food too often can make one fat. Driving drunk greatly increases one's chances of ending up imprisoned, disfigured, or dead. Smoking is
bad for one's health and is potentially lethal. Just because a particular activity is proven to be dangerous, does not always guarantee that the public will
listen. Warning people by appealing to their logic and reasoning is a strategy that rarely works, because humans are experts and rationalizing and
justifying their behaviors, no matter how illogical or destructive they might be. People have known about the dangers of tobacco smoking for decades,
yet the number of smokers, although steadily shrinking, is still extremely high worldwide. Sometimes an appeal must be made to people's emotions
and feelings instead, and no emotion is as primal and universal as fear. The Tobacco Use Prevention Program (TUPP) organization decided to do just
that ā€“ if you cannot educate them with logic, threaten something they value the most.
Young people struggle to comprehend the concepts of death and illness. Many simply choose to ignore the fact of their own mortality, engaging in

Use of tobacco has been associated with the cause of diseases that ultimately cause deaths. About 1,200 tobacco smokers die every month from
smoking. This translates to about 1,4389,00 suffering patinas every year (Harper, 2006). This is a great number of preventable deaths every year.
Those who survive the tobaccoā€“induced deaths live with lifelong problems that include pulmonary diseases, cancers and the discoloration of the teeth.
In addition, smokers have high risks of getting heart attacks and many other conditions that tend to make life quite uncomfortable. Burning tobacco
leads to the production of a wide variety of chemicals. So far, it has been noted that tobacco has over 700 chemical compounds. The chemicals in
tobacco belong to different groups which include humectants, pesticides, heavy metals, casting agents and many more. The most common chemical
compounds in tobacco include tar, nicotine, and carbon. All these chemicals have negative effects on human health. Tar, for example, brings about many

Several people think if smoking is legal and if the smokers are of age then they should be allowed to smoke. They also think It is not the job of the
government to tell anyone what to decide to do with their life and not for them to command smokers to stop. They think that banning smoking in
public would applaud people to smoke more in their houses, this will hurt other people in their house, especially their kids. It would also make bars,
pubs and clubs go out of business. In an article by Joseph Bast called "Smoking Should Not Be Banned in Public Places", Joseph Bast altercate that
"people are free to do things both great and foolish so long as they do not conflict with an equal right held by others." This combines smoking.
Considering scientific studies have not definitively found the danger of secondhand smoke, smoking bans should not be established in law, he says.
There is documentation that less people are smoking, and he believes that each person should have the freedoms to do anything they want. Joseph Bast
is president and CEO of the Heartland Institute, a nonprofit research and educational organization that promotes free market solutions to social and
economic problems.

The numbers of people who smoke have increased over the years. Although they are equipped with the knowledge of how unhealthy smoking can be,
people still choose to smoke. It is a personal choice and a highly addictive habit. Smokers choose to subject themselves to the health risks of smoking.
It is not for the government or any third party to dictate whether or not a person should be allowed to smoke. However, smoking does not only affect
the smoker negatively. It also affects all the people around those who smoke because when people smoke in public the smoke travels everywhere
through the air, and the negative effects of the smoke affects all living, breathing creatures. Therefore smoking should be banned in all public places.
People who smoke in public portray a bad example. Children are easily influenced in their growing stages. They imitate the people around them
because they cannot differentiate between right and wrong. Therefore they perceive the actions they see around them as the way thing should be.
Besides that, teenagers who see people smoke in public take it as precedent to start smoking as well. There is a saying that goes "monkey see monkey
do", which tells us that people imitate the actions of others as they see it in their daily lives. Teenagers happen to think that smoking makes a person
"cool". When they see adults doing it on the streets, it strengthens their belief in the "coolness" of smoking. Some teenagers think that smoking marks

healthā€“threatening activities such as eating lots of fatty foods, taking no exercise, and drinking too much alcohol. Banning smoking would be an
unmerited intrusion into personal freedom.
2) Cigarettes are very different from dangerous cars or poisonous foods. As the proposition points out, cigarettes are not dangerous because they are
defective; rather they are inherently, potentially, harmful. But people should still be allowed to choose to buy and smoke them. A better comparison is
to unhealthy foods. High cholesterol or a high intake of fat can be extremely harmful, leading to heart disease, obesity, and other conditions; but
manufacturers of these products are not punished. Consumers simply like the taste of fatty food. People should be allow to smoke cigarettes and to eat
fatty foods ā€“ both these things are sources of pleasure which, while having serious associated health risks, are only fatal after many decades, unlike a
poisonous food or an unsafe car, which pose immediate and high risks.

Clotting of blood can also be formed. Clots of blood can also lead to cancers in the body. When there is no circulation of blood in the brain, the
blood vessel in and around the brain tends to burst. Swelling of the legs, hands and other parts of the body occurs when blood flow is limited in the
body. Oxygen can no longer be circulated properly, when there is a breach in blood circulation, and when this happensLung cancer is inevitable.
Lung cancer is another effect of smoking that leads to cessation of breath. Smoking damages the airways and small air sacs in human body which
leads to growth or tumors on the airways walls of the respiratory system. When these air sacs are damaged it makes it so difficult for proper
breathing to occur. The primary assignment of the lung is to provide oxygen to the body via the blood. The airways and air sacs are the vehicle
through which the lung performs its functions. Smoking damages the air sacs, makes the airways wall to become thick, inflamed, lose its elasticity
and build mucus in the lung thereby making circulation of oxygen impossible. When we breath in air the airways expand and when we breath out air
the airways deflate but when the airways and air sacs loses its elasticity it becomes difficult for proper breathing to happen. Lung cancer reduces the
airflow in and out of the lungs. Thun MJ, Carter BD, Feskanich D of the New

Every year, almost half a million Americans die prematurely from smoking or from exposure to secondhand smoke. The use of tobacco is one of the
leading cause of preventable illness and death in the United States. It has been known to causes many different cancers, as well as chronic lung
diseases. Yet nearly forty million adults in the US still smoke cigarettes.
A piece of rhetoric in the medium of a poster, is of a lit cigarette; The author of the piece of rhetoric is German Ljutaev. The cigarette on this poster
contains images of four and a half hearts: the half heart is half burnt off. The hearts are similar to the lives that are in video games. Before the hearts,
there is writing that says," continue? y/n," with the y highlighted.
The writing on the cigarette makes the stated claim, that even though people know about the risks of smoking, they still choose to continue to smoke
cigarettes. The risk is the implied claim, that with every cigarette smoked, shortening that smoker's life. This is indicated by the hearts burning away.
In this sense, this piece of rhetoric is implying that cigarettes kill; As the cigarette burns out so does the smoker's life. The hearts printed on the
cigarette may also imply that, the people who smoke them may get the wrong impression that they have unlimited lives. This assumption may be led
by the way that the hearts on the cigarette are comparable to the lives in a video game; they think their life will regenerate like the lives in such a
video game. The main claim in this rhetorical poster, smokers can't treat their life like video games, because their life is not renewable.
The target audience, that the author of this piece of rhetoric is trying to reach, is the cigarette consumers and those who may be thinking about starting.
This poster is trying to get its audience to rethink their decision to smoke, by using a different view of the risksā€“with the print on the cigarette. The
broader audiencesā€“which would include the cigarette manufactures and the gamersā€“are being approached in slightly different manners. The poster is
implying that the manufacturers know that the cigarettes are bad for their consumers and, yet they still sell them, because people still buy them. But if

When did smoking become so normal that almost everyone in society smokes. Smoking is a practice that is common in every society in the world. One
of the most commonly smoked products that comes to mine when talking about smoking would be tobacco, which used to produce cigarettes.
Marijuana and meth are examples of products that people will smoke today. The reason cigarettes are so abundant is because the tobacco in
cigarettes can be cultivated in large amounts. Thus, different industries are involved in the production and distribution of tobacco. Furthermore,
some people continue to claim that there are no dangers of smoking. Sometimes people smoke while drinking, because of this most bars also sell
cigarettes. According the article "Bars fear Smoking ban will hurt business," from The Washington Times, "Restaurants and bar owners say their
customers will likely take dining dollars outside the District if a smoking ban up for a vote in the D.C. council today is enacted" (1). Thus, bar
owners feel that they would lose customers if smoking were to be banned. On the other hand, most people start smoking at a young age because they
find it pleasurable but, it eventually becomes an addiction after a longer period of smoking. The article "Tobacco Use is a Serious Problem," states
that, "Nearly all tobacco use begins in childhood and adolescence. In all, 88% of adult cigarette smokers who smoke daily,

taking a puff was contributed by nicotine, which triggered his brain to produce a happy feeling. Use of nicotine is said to cause several social
influences. For instance, smoking plays an integral part in starting a conversation among smokers. A conversation is normally started as a smoker asks
for a light or a cigarette. In addition, it is also difficult for a person to quit his/her friends whom they smoke together. Some of the longā€“term effects of
smoking include sleep disorders irritability, lack of concentration severe headaches and anxiety. Pure nicotine is said to be extremely poisonous and it
can cause death. Currently, use of nicotine is said to be causing the highest number of deaths in the United States. It causes

Argumentative Essay On Smokers

  • 1. Argumentative Essay On Smokers As a smoker I know the dangers of smoking. From the harmful effects on the human body, to the resulting pollution and waste; smoking is a nasty and lethal habit. We need a smokeā€“free world because smoking harms smokers, nonsmokers, and the environment. Smoking is a significant problem for smokers. The problem is that tobacco products are the leading cause of preventable deaths. Did you know that 67% of smokers perish from smoking ā€“related illnesses? Tobacco smoke boosts the risk for 13 different types of cancer: lungs, esophagus, larynx, mouth, throat, kidneys, bladder, liver, stomach, cervix, colon, rectum, and blood. Almost 70% of smokers want to quit, and around 43% try each year. However, many smokers don't have the knowā€“how or the willpower to kick the habit for good. Over twoā€“thirds of smokers who quit for a short period of time will relapse and take up smoking again. Smokers could involve themselves in behavioral therapy. Behavioral therapy involves working with a counselor to find ways not to smoke. Together you'll find your triggers, emotions or situations that make you want to smoke, and explore options to get through the cravings. But the danger isn't only for smokers, secondhand smoke can affect anyone. Smoking pollution harms the environment. Many smokers believe smoking only damages their health. They are ignoring the fact that their smoking is indirectly affecting others health. Smoking causes air pollution and to some extent also pollutes the ground; even Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Thesis Statement On Smoking Smoking cigarettes can have such an harmful effect on the individuals who abuse it and the people who are in around them. A cigarette abuser is likely to become addicted to the drug resulting the person to face with lung cancer. There are many close people in my life who are trying their hardest to quit this specific addiction. Making it ridiculously easy for me to identify and choose the topic in which I chose. Although, before I chose my original topic I had to focus directly on "tools" and strategies that could possibly help individuals quit smoking. Instead of my initial topic thesis statement which was "Smoking cigarettes can be prevented and there are various tools to help quit smoking." My final thesis statement for the this specific final project is now "Smoking can lead to various diseases although a nicotine patch, nasal spray, and vaporizers are the best tools to help quit smoking." My plan was to go in depth in my research and find valuable information relating to my topic. In the beginning, I was extremely confident in my abilities to learn which tools will help the best to quit smoking and had no doubt in my mind that I wouldn't be able to get it all figured out. I've investigated several different sources. Some of the sources I checked out fit perfectly with my topic and a couple other sources we're awfully helpless during my research. After lots of tough thinking about what source I'm going to choose I decided to pick sources that have the most scholarly Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Some people use even cigar, pipes etc. All these contain dried leaves of tobacco plant. A cigarette or any such thing is made for the purpose of inhaling smoke. It contains a harmful substance 'nicotine'. Tobacco is an agricultural product, grown in the farms. Farmers get good income by growing the tobacco as an agricultural plant. Tobacco is also used in preparation of some medicines. But when tobacco is used just for pleasure, is harmful to life. The products that are most damaging are: tar, a carcinogen (substance that causes cancer) nicotine is addictive and increases cholesterol levels in your body carbon monoxide reduces oxygen in the body components of the gas and particulate phases cause chronic obstructive pulmonary disorder (COPD). When they inhale secondhand smoke, they take in nicotine and other chemicals just like the smokers do ("Secondhand smoke," 2011). According to the quittersguide, "secondhand smoke immediately affects the heart and blood circulation, and over time it causes heart disease and lung cancer" (quittersguide, 2008). Smoking is mostly caused by the sociocultural factor. They smoke because they need to fit in with their social group who smoke (Cortes, 2011). It is because some think when you are smoking cigarettes, you would look cool. For teens, they smoke because they want to attain adult status (Cortes, 1998). Some teens think that if you smoke cigarettes, you would look mature because normally, adults smoke but now even teens do it. Sometimes, they learn how to smoke because of curiosity. A YouthTobacco Survey by the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) Philippine Chapter has been conducted among grade school and high school students in Metro Manila. • 6. Smoking Should Be Banned Essay Ban Smoking in Public Places Smoking is one of the leading causes of preventable deaths in the United States, and doing it in public is even worse because smokers not only harm themselves, but also those around them. I remember how my great uncle would always smoke in his house regardless of his surroundings. When his daughter visited him for a vacation, she brought her three year old daughter with her. The baby was healthy before coming to her grandpa's house, but in less than two weeks, she had developed ear infections and started to cough. When they went to the doctors' office to find out how she had gotten it, the doctor linked it back to the second hand smoke that she was breathing in. When my great uncle found out about it, he...show more content... According to Tree Hugger, cigarette butts have been found inside the stomachs of birds and fishes (McLaren). It is horrible to know that some of the fishes that we have eaten may have been contaminated by cigarette butts. Though many smokers already know of the health risks that come with smoking cigarettes, but what most of them do not, is how secondhand smoking can affect other people. "Breathing in low doses of secondhand smoke can increase a person's risk of heart attack" according to a study by Dr. Meyers, a professor of Cardiology and Preventive Medicine at University of Kansas (Sciencedaily.com). Smokers should not risk nonā€“smokers for something that they do. In continuation of Dr. Meyers' study is that, "secondhand smoking increases the likelihood of a heart attack by making the blood "sticky", making it more prone to clotting, and reducing the amount of good cholesterol in the body" (Sciencedaily.com). Nonā€“smokers should not be worrying about paying more medical bills, especially in today's economic situation. Many businesses provide health insurance to their employees. According to a statistical data collected by Live Strong, employers spend an extra $49 million in medical costs for employees who are exposed to secondhand smoking in their jobs (Nelson). Employers would be able to hire more people with the money that is being used to pay for medical bills that could be prevented. Smoking banned in Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Argumentative Essay On Smoking Argumentative Essay What if you were to live in a place where our government debts weren't severe? What about living in a world with a cleaner atmosphere? Would you want to have excessive Carbon Dioxide and other harmful chemicals in the air? This applies to our world and many wish this could happen, but with one easy solution that is beneficial to many, it can happen. Smoking should be banned because it harms the environment, affects our body in a negative way, and is a burden to our economy. Smoking should be outlawed because its effects on our environment are extremely deleterious. It is one of the main causes of environmental pollution. Daily, millions of cigarettes are left on the floor, which ends up in the river. It can harm our waterways and can also harm our soil. Nevertheless, trees are wasted in the process as well ("Have Your Say | Should Smoking Be Banned?"). About fifteen billion packs are sold daily, and to produce 300 cigarettes, a tree is wasted. In addition, 13 million acres are used to grow tobacco. Imagine what we can do with those acres, and maybe grow crops for the millions of poor or the homeless. ("Smoking") The U.S tobacco industry produces 16 million tons of Carbon Dioxide yearly. For comparison, a car produces 4 million times less. Imagine what our world would be if everyone stopped, a better and cleaner environment. In addition, there are approximately 4,000 chemicals in a single cigarette. Imagine how these harmful chemicals, like methane, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Argumentative Essay Should cigarettes smoking be prohibited in pubs ? Michal Š•Š…Š“ŠŽŠ”ŠŒik Writing V. Rob Lee Argumentative Essay 6. 2. 2011 Unhealthy environment, smoke screens and empty wallets are a few problems someone might have when he enters a pub. On the one hand, itŠ’Ņ‘s required to have at least one nonā€“smoking area in every pub, but on the other hand itŠ’Ņ‘s usually a small part of it. It could be a big problem for nonā€“smokers, because they are bigger in number than seats for them. A good hopefulness for nonā€“smokers is that smoking in pubs has been already prohibited in some developed countries. Currently, there are many reasons to ban smoking in pubs and one example is that nonā€“smokers shouldnŠ’Ņ‘t risk their health unnecessarily. Every human, who is...show more content... ItŠ’Ņ‘s a European Union action to curb smoking, but a result of this measure is not clear. There is still a high number of smokers. Prices arenŠ’Ņ‘t a good way to protect nonā€“smokers because smokers will always find money for their habit. So a question is if prohibition of smoking in pubs can decrease the number of smokers. Maybe yes, maybe no, but itŠ’Ņ‘s totally clear that nonā€“smokers will be protected from breathing smoke and destroying their health. There are tough antiā€“smoking laws in a whole in east of Europe, but people have accustomed by that. We live in a modern world so we should be aware of dangers of smoking and pay attention to nonā€“smokers too. There are still many people, who think that smoking in pubs shouldnŠ’Ņ‘t be prohibited. They have an opinion that they should have a right to smoke at places where nonā€“smokers are not forced to be. While this argument may be true, people should respect each other. We are all humans and we should learn how to be tolerant. It canŠ’Ņ‘t be very hard for smokers to stand up and go out of a pub and light a cigarette there. ItŠ’Ņ‘s about peopleŠ’Ņ‘s mind, they should realize that they donŠ’Ņ‘t endanger only their health, but also everyone who is around them. As is known, smoking is the biggest killer of mankind. Driving drunk greatly increases one's chances of ending up imprisoned, disfigured, or dead. Smoking is bad for one's health and is potentially lethal. Just because a particular activity is proven to be dangerous, does not always guarantee that the public will listen. Warning people by appealing to their logic and reasoning is a strategy that rarely works, because humans are experts and rationalizing and justifying their behaviors, no matter how illogical or destructive they might be. People have known about the dangers of tobacco smoking for decades, yet the number of smokers, although steadily shrinking, is still extremely high worldwide. Sometimes an appeal must be made to people's emotions and feelings instead, and no emotion is as primal and universal as fear. The Tobacco Use Prevention Program (TUPP) organization decided to do just that ā€“ if you cannot educate them with logic, threaten something they value the most. Young people struggle to comprehend the concepts of death and illness. Many simply choose to ignore the fact of their own mortality, engaging in reckless, irresponsible activities. • 14. Argumentative Essay Smoking Several people think if smoking is legal and if the smokers are of age then they should be allowed to smoke. They also think It is not the job of the government to tell anyone what to decide to do with their life and not for them to command smokers to stop. They think that banning smoking in public would applaud people to smoke more in their houses, this will hurt other people in their house, especially their kids. It would also make bars, pubs and clubs go out of business. In an article by Joseph Bast called "Smoking Should Not Be Banned in Public Places", Joseph Bast altercate that "people are free to do things both great and foolish so long as they do not conflict with an equal right held by others." This combines smoking. Considering scientific studies have not definitively found the danger of secondhand smoke, smoking bans should not be established in law, he says. There is documentation that less people are smoking, and he believes that each person should have the freedoms to do anything they want. Joseph Bast is president and CEO of the Heartland Institute, a nonprofit research and educational organization that promotes free market solutions to social and economic problems. This is the article I am going to debate because I strongly disagree that smoking should be allowed in public places. My intended audience for my debate would be the government especially the one who makes the laws. The executive branch, when authorized by Congress, enacts Federal regulations they would be my direct direction and who I would contact.I am going to draw their attention by stating facts and information which is included below about why smoking is dangerous for smokers and for everyone around it and why it should be banned in public. In my opinion tobacco is one of the most commonly used drugs in the world, especially in the form of cigarettes. What is considered a drug? "A drug can have two distinct definitions; a "chemical substance, especially one prescribed by a medical provider that is used in the diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of a condition or disease. • 15. Argumentative Essay Smoking The numbers of people who smoke have increased over the years. Although they are equipped with the knowledge of how unhealthy smoking can be, people still choose to smoke. It is a personal choice and a highly addictive habit. Smokers choose to subject themselves to the health risks of smoking. It is not for the government or any third party to dictate whether or not a person should be allowed to smoke. However, smoking does not only affect the smoker negatively. It also affects all the people around those who smoke because when people smoke in public the smoke travels everywhere through the air, and the negative effects of the smoke affects all living, breathing creatures. Therefore smoking should be banned in all public places. People who smoke in public portray a bad example. Children are easily influenced in their growing stages. They imitate the people around them because they cannot differentiate between right and wrong. Therefore they perceive the actions they see around them as the way thing should be. Besides that, teenagers who see people smoke in public take it as precedent to start smoking as well. There is a saying that goes "monkey see monkey do", which tells us that people imitate the actions of others as they see it in their daily lives. Teenagers happen to think that smoking makes a person "cool". When they see adults doing it on the streets, it strengthens their belief in the "coolness" of smoking. Some teenagers think that smoking marks their transition Get more content on HelpWriting.net

As the proposition points out, cigarettes are not dangerous because they are defective; rather they are inherently, potentially, harmful. But people should still be allowed to choose to buy and smoke them. A better comparison is to unhealthy foods. High cholesterol or a high intake of fat can be extremely harmful, leading to heart disease, obesity, and other conditions; but manufacturers of these products are not punished. Consumers simply like the taste of fatty food. People should be allow to smoke cigarettes and to eat fatty foods ā€“ both these things are sources of pleasure which, while having serious associated health risks, are only fatal after many decades, unlike a poisonous food or an unsafe car, which pose immediate and high risks. 3) A comparison to hard drugs is inaccurateā€“ tobacco is not debilitating in the same way that many Get more content on HelpWriting.net

Lung cancer is another effect of smoking that leads to cessation of breath. Smoking damages the airways and small air sacs in human body which leads to growth or tumors on the airways walls of the respiratory system. When these air sacs are damaged it makes it so difficult for proper breathing to occur. The primary assignment of the lung is to provide oxygen to the body via the blood. The airways and air sacs are the vehicle through which the lung performs its functions. Smoking damages the air sacs, makes the airways wall to become thick, inflamed, lose its elasticity and build mucus in the lung thereby making circulation of oxygen impossible. When we breath in air the airways expand and when we breath out air the airways deflate but when the airways and air sacs loses its elasticity it becomes difficult for proper breathing to happen. Lung cancer reduces the airflow in and out of the lungs. Thun MJ, Carter BD, Feskanich D of the New England Journal of Medicine, states Get more content on HelpWriting.net

The use of tobacco is one of the leading cause of preventable illness and death in the United States. It has been known to causes many different cancers, as well as chronic lung diseases. Yet nearly forty million adults in the US still smoke cigarettes. A piece of rhetoric in the medium of a poster, is of a lit cigarette; The author of the piece of rhetoric is German Ljutaev. The cigarette on this poster contains images of four and a half hearts: the half heart is half burnt off. The hearts are similar to the lives that are in video games. Before the hearts, there is writing that says," continue? y/n," with the y highlighted. The writing on the cigarette makes the stated claim, that even though people know about the risks of smoking, they still choose to continue to smoke cigarettes. The risk is the implied claim, that with every cigarette smoked, shortening that smoker's life. This is indicated by the hearts burning away. In this sense, this piece of rhetoric is implying that cigarettes kill; As the cigarette burns out so does the smoker's life. The hearts printed on the cigarette may also imply that, the people who smoke them may get the wrong impression that they have unlimited lives. This assumption may be led by the way that the hearts on the cigarette are comparable to the lives in a video game; they think their life will regenerate like the lives in such a video game. The broader audiencesā€“which would include the cigarette manufactures and the gamersā€“are being approached in slightly different manners. The poster is implying that the manufacturers know that the cigarettes are bad for their consumers and, yet they still sell them, because people still buy them. Smoking is a practice that is common in every society in the world. One of the most commonly smoked products that comes to mine when talking about smoking would be tobacco, which used to produce cigarettes. Marijuana and meth are examples of products that people will smoke today. The reason cigarettes are so abundant is because the tobacco in cigarettes can be cultivated in large amounts. Thus, different industries are involved in the production and distribution of tobacco. Furthermore, some people continue to claim that there are no dangers of smoking. Sometimes people smoke while drinking, because of this most bars also sell cigarettes. According the article "Bars fear Smoking ban will hurt business," from The Washington Times, "Restaurants and bar owners say their customers will likely take dining dollars outside the District if a smoking ban up for a vote in the D.C. council today is enacted" (1). Thus, bar owners feel that they would lose customers if smoking were to be banned. On the other hand, most people start smoking at a young age because they find it pleasurable but, it eventually becomes an addiction after a longer period of smoking. The article "Tobacco Use is a Serious Problem," states that, "Nearly all tobacco use begins in childhood and adolescence. Addiction is when a person is physically and mentally dependent on a particular substance and is unable to stop taking it without incurring unpleasant effects. Once the body tastes nicotine the addictive chemical found in cigarettes it craves for more. Nicotine creates a pleasurable feeling that appeals to the smoker. However, since nicotine is the only addictive drug in tobacco if extracted from tobacco then tobacco won't be addictive. A conversation is normally started as a smoker asks for a light or a cigarette. In addition, it is also difficult for a person to quit his/her friends whom they smoke together. Some of the longā€“term effects of smoking include sleep disorders irritability, lack of concentration severe headaches and anxiety.
