Reflection Of Higher Education
An intersectional reflection of my dichotomous relationship with higher education is what fuels my desire to pursue a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership
and Policy Analysis. As a first–generation college student, earning a Bachelor's and Master's degrees profoundly altered the trajectory of my family
out of years of generational poverty. As a result of embracing highereducation, I possess the ability to think critically and creatively, with a passion
and hunger for lifelong learning. Contrarily, the experience also left some biological, psychological, and social scarring. Macroaggressions, tokenism,
and implicit bias have all contributed to the way that I now live, learn, and work in the world. While these experiences did not prevent the completion
of my education, it has led others to abandon the pursuit, and certainly presents an enigma to many colleges and universities around the country eager
to recruit and retain scholars that identify as Black/African–American, first–generation, and/or low socioeconomic status. The majority of my
professional experience revolves around this very conundrum and the time has now come to pursue extensive and original research in this chosen field.
My work in student affairs provides significant opportunity to contemplate, implement and assess initiatives related to student success and retention.
My current research is connected to peer education and the 1st year experience and I have active and growing experience in the needs assessment and

Argumentative Essay On Higher Education
The United States of America has portrayed itself by being the "land of opportunities" where everyone can "achieve success" by being determined, hard
working and having the courage to grasp the rudder of their lives and lead themselves through the right path. In this nation, the American Dream is
viewed in many different ways depending on individual's culture and background. The higher education for Latino immigrants has been a concern to
many people, especially those that want to achieve it. While some individuals believe that the DREAM act will result in a college graduate generation of
hard working individuals who will strengthen the economy, others say they do not deserve it or that it will only encourage continued illegal immigration.

This act would provide a pathway of legal status and "would allow residency requirements for in–state tuition" (Erisman 20). The public and political
officials have a very divided opinion on this dispute. Opponents to this act, believe that giving these young adults legal residence and opening better
opportunities for them will only be an incentive to break the law and will encourage continued immigration. Advocates on the other hand, believe that
these students who have a desire for success have much to offer to the future of America. Erisman, claims that that students [should not] "only be
offered in–state tuition but also financial aid from the state and government" (Erisman 20), since some of these undocumented students come from
low–income families and they may find it very difficult to pay for college even with the benefit of in–state tuition. The Latino student immigrants who
participated in Contreras study reflect the claims that Erisman conveys. They were all highly "concerned with financing college and the need for
ongoing support to successfully persist" (Contreras 620). Overall the students interview in this study all share the same ideal. They believe that by
receiving financial assistance, the government will only be investing in future professional Latino leaders thus building a stronger socio–economic

Persuasive Essay On Higher Education
Every day, the gaps between institutions grow in the higher education hierarchy system. Over half of all the endowment money in higher education is
used for about two percent of students, while the colleges housing the other 98 percent are watering down their education to accommodate their lack of
funds (Maguire and Butler). This problem of inequality, along with the issue of lack of diversity at elite institutions, has to improve. In order to reform
the higher education system, the changes must be initiated at the beginning of the cycle, in K–12 education. Following this, new programs should be
implemented in all higher education institutions, including those of liberal arts, in order to improve curriculum, cost, and diversity. Ultimately, it
should be understood that college students choose which institution to attend based on preference; therefore, numerous options should be available.
With some small improvements made at both high schools and colleges, the problems found within the higher education system will soon dissolve. To
tackle any issue, one must go straight to the root of the problem. In the case of higher education that is K–12 schooling. Most of the students that attend
high level institutions attended high level private or public primary and secondary schools. These schools have numerous resources available to help
students prepare for college. They offer SAT tutoring and AP courses. Some might even have the equipment and staff to do research. Beginning in
elementary school, continuing through middle school, and ultimately reaching high school, students are bred to be college ready. They have the
experience and their schools have the reputation to create the perfect college application. These students are accepted into the best schools and later,
their kids will repeat the same cycle. This repetitive cycle leads families and their students with this high level secondary school background to feel
entitled to be accepted to the most elite institutions. On the opposite end of the spectrum, there are students in inner cities and rural areas who do not
have the luxury of a top–notch primary and secondary education. Rather than believing that they can go to college and succeed, they

The Causes And Effects Of Higher Education
The causes and effects of higher levels of education are very beneficial for one's future. Higher education allows one to be more developed and
prepared for the workforce that entails a more enjoyable life than less educated people. In the United States, educated people are 79% more likely to
be chosen for a job over a less educated applicant (DePrince). Education allows one to gain many characteristics that are looked for throughout the
working world. Success, emotional stability, personal connections, empowerment and personal responsibility are all effects of being highly educated.
As a result of these effects of being educated, one's life tends to be happier and more enjoyable than the life of a less educated individual. Education
enables people to be more successful and gives them the upper–hand when it comes to being able to coax through life as an adult. Being highly
educated can cause someone's income to be many tens–of–thousands of dollars higher. In a study done on high school graduates and college graduates
with a bachelor's degree, the results determined that college graduates attain approximately $64,500 annually while those with a high school diploma
earn $41,000 (Karageorge). With higher education, better job opportunities appear due to college teaching many versatile characteristics that
companies look for. These job opportunities lead to higher salaries and better health benefits covered by the companies than people that are not
qualified for these jobs. When people have a high income, they are more financially stable and tend to make ends meet easier. Many people stress
over paying bills, paying off debt and being able to do what they want to be happy. When more money is applied to this situation these issue and
worries diminish and happiness increases due to the lack of stress over every day problems. Once all the bills are paid people are left with nothing
but free time. With this free time and extra money one could do as they want to have fun such as, going on a vacation or buying a new toy like a
motorcycle to make them happy. Money is always the ultimate variable in life, due to the world revolving around it. Without success, there would not
be as much money, and without as much money

Essay about Higher Education for Free
Over the years, college fees have gradually risen for high school graduates. It's been said that most jobs with a college degree earn almost double
of what a high school graduate would earn. Many people all over the country have been unable to go to college because of these high fees for
education. Some people think that your future shouldn't be controlled by the amount of money you pay. If these fees continue to increase, then no
one will be able to attend college. Higher education for free will increase productivity within students because they can get a good job, college is
now a prerequisite, and college worthy jobs have great salaries. If our schools would allow their education to be free, then it would create an even

Most times, students end up living a life they didn't want after high school. With no degree, students may find themselves working at a labor or
hardworking job making little money. College students are usually better off in their life with an efficient job and a healthy family. On the other
hand, some people may say that if this happens, taxes will be raised and the expenses of daily needs will cost more than ever. Also, people may say
that that's what scholarships are for. Professors and teachers wouldn't be able to get paid if the college had no income. However, many colleges
could use donated books and supplies to cover the expenses of school. Scholarships do not apply to everyone sometimes; there are very slim
chances of getting a full ride to pay all of our college fees. As for the teachers, our government should be able to provide a weekly income of money
for these teachers and staff. Higher education should, without a doubt, be free and available for all. Imagine if you were a high school student with
good grades and you weren't able to go to college because of the high expenses; how would you feel? The costs have just gotten out of hand for
students. Some kids have had no other choice but to enter the work field making little money. When this happens, people are unable to support
themselves and are living paycheck–to–paycheck. To avoid situations like poverty,

Higher education is the greatest tool that can benefit a society, granted that universities can bring a sense of personal accomplishment and general
knowledge. It is the Federal government's job to reflect on other educational systems, for instance Germany's higher education, and create an intuition
that profits the public good and establishes a structured strategy that ensures college students are economically viable. For example, the University of
California exploded when the Board of Regents approved a "32 percent tuition increases for the 2010 academic year, a vote that would raise the UC
tuition to over $10,000 a year" (Selingo). Higher education should not be a risky future investment; it should be designed to help the general public and
now obtaining a four–year diploma has become an essential way a person displays their preparedness for high demanding jobs. In addition, diplomas
have become less available to the public due to the economic downturn, defunding of the public education systems, and increasing tuition rates. It is
time to create a strategy that assists the public education system and that serves the common well–being. Therefore, it is the federal government's duty
to reflect on Germany's educational methods that favor the public good and promote a change in the broken institutions by allowing free online
universities and community colleges to offer four–year degrees.

The Benefits of Higher Education Essay
Higher education in the United States arose as an answer to the need to train clergy for the seminary. Throughout the centuries, higher education has
evolved to become one of the principal means in educating individuals in specific areas of study. Individuals seek higher education to become more
proficient in a particular occupation, area of study, or as a requisite for employment or advancement in specific fields such as engineering, management,
or the sciences. The benefits that individuals who attend institutions of higher learning realize are more than education; the benefits are numerous and
consist of socioeconomic benefits as well as personal benefits for the scholar, including income benefits, employment advantages as well as...show more

These benefits affect local institutions that depend on volunteers to operate such as food and homeless shelters, Habitat for Humanity, local Boy's and
Girl's Clubs, as well as various other charities who rely on volunteers. Moreover, the more individuals who vote influence the overall government and
its policies, supporting the ideology of our founding fathers. Government is a reflection of the will of a greater number of citizens, and individuals with
more education vote more often than less educated persons, therefore, educating society as a whole improves a democratic form of government.
In addition to the above–mentioned social benefits, one may also note that higher education also contributes to the creation, development, and operation
of public institutions. While discussing non–market private and social benefits of higher education, Walter W. McMahon, in his report "Advancing
Higher Education," states, "...they likely contribute more than proportionately to the development of civic institutions, democratic institutions, and rule
of law. These benefits in turn set the stage for substantial economic growth" (McMahon, Advancing). He goes on to state, "Civil institutions are built,
new ideas are generated, and environmental conditions are put in place such as lower state crime, welfare, health and incarceration costs that

The Value Of University Education Essay
On the Value of University Education
The nature of attaining a higher level of education has changed drastically since the end of WWII with more than triple the percentage of the
population attending at least some college. While receiving advanced degree used to be an opportunity only for the rich or those going into a
specialized profession, it now has become an integral part of the American Dream. However, historically such masseducation was never the point of
university, and the value of their teachings was much more defined because of it. In the face of the changing nature of the economy and society
universities have struggled to find a value for university education. The answer colleges have found is to make the modern purpose of education, not
to provide training for any specific career or life path, but to provide skills to help in life for the next 50–60 years across all arcs of life. This includes
basic responsibility, active education, independence, and interpersonal skills, and while career training is still a part it has been replaced as the
primary goal of a liberal education by these new talents and necessities. (Historical background in the opening really ties in)
College is a time of transition for a majority of students who enter in a classical experience of 4 years of on–campus or near–campus living, with
classes and life to balance. As such colleges do a lot to promote the development of basic responsibility. Certainly more decisions and freedom is left

Introduction:
Since the inception of higher education acts, the goal of the federal government has been to increase access to students who may not have otherwise
been able to attend. For Financial Aid Administrators, it is not enough to simply get low–income students through the college doors of higher education,
but ensuring that students are successfully persisting and progressing to the completion of their college degree. Previous studies support a connection
between financial aid and college graduation.

Focusing on this university as opposed to other state schools was preferable due to a large number of students and the diversity of the student population
as compared to other state schools within the state. Additionally, this University has 3 campuses (one in the southern part of the state, one in the central
part and one in the northern part) thus providing a representative sample of the state with regard to characteristics including socioeconomic status, race,
and gender.
This study utilized secondary data analysis. The data was extracted from the larger data set through the University's Department of Institutional
Research (IR). The role of this department is to collect, analyze and report on data for institutional planning, policy development and represents the
university as an arm which disseminates public information services, in order to meet the needs of the university community and external stakeholders.
For the purpose of this paper, the data was then organized and statistics were calculated based on the identified independent and dependent variables.
The sample consisted of a fall 2012 cohort, totaling #______ students, entering as a first time, full–time freshman. The selection looks at the dependent
variable (graduation rates) and captures whether or not low–income students successfully graduate within four years of their matriculation, compared to
other socioeconomic populations. This paper does not

Higher education is optional, but to enter a respectable career, one must continue their education in order to achieve his financial and/or personal goals.
Teenagers who attend college use their extended schooling to further obtain knowledge. The primary objective of higher education is to enhance one's
abilities for his future. A student can learn from school in numerous ways, but liberal education is not a way to attract students into further and higher
education. However, students can learn a lot more through experiences that have affected their personal lives. I agree with author Mike Rose's theory
that education needs are reached to obtain a higher academic level by teaching students information that can be related to their personal...show more

However, he has not thought about the students who want to attend college and quickly earn their degree so they can start their careers.
I disagree with Bloom because he encourages the idea of taking extra irrelevant classes to achieve the experience of education. It usually takes about
four years to earn a bachelors degree. There are many courses such as English, math, history, art, etc. that a student must go through before they get to
start on the classes that concentrate on their intended major. These basic courses are part of a program called general education. After completing
general education (which usually takes about two years), the students can then begin to study for their degree. Colleges should abandon the law of
students having to take general education courses because the courses are irrelevant to their field of study, unnecessary and a waste of time. Instead of
taking the extra courses, students can simply meet their needs of a degree in a shorter period of time. Also, Bloom not only that wants students to take
general education courses, he wants them to further their education by taking advanced irrelevant courses. Therefore, in their future, they would have
numerous opportunities for a better career. Because if a job is not right for the student, he would have other choices to obtain a new job.
Rose feels students should not learn from the canon books style. Students have an easier time learning when they relate to the

Ancient Greeks pursued an education in order to be better citizens and because they valued the mind and thinking. In an article in Change, Arthur
Levine and Jeanette Cureton quote John Henry Cardinal Newman who wrote The Idea of a University in the mid 1800's. "His ideal was a residential
community of students and teachers devoted to the intellect. To him a college was 'an alma mater, knowing her children one by one, not a foundry, or
a mint, or a treadmill.' " To Newman, a university was a gathering–place for those who wanted to enrich their lives through learning, not a place where
students could be molded. Is this the case today? The New Jersey City University states that a liberal arts curriculum will "provide students with the
kind of knowledge that will help them live a more rewarding life––one that is rich with meaning." Their College of Arts and Sciences contends that it
"is dedicated to providing students with an education" that will "expand their perceptions and give them a firm foundation for living, working, and
decision making." But what is this richness of

Higher Education And High Education Essay
Over the last several decades, higher education has gone through an unprecedented growth period, and as a result, the average university has more
students and a larger output now than ever before (Amaral, Jones, and Karseth, 2013). Higher education is a privilege that I value immensely.
Having gone through my fair share of ups and downs when it comes to earning my Bachelor's degree, I have come to appreciate the difficult and
sometimes the seemingly never ending road of obtaining a college degree. These days it seems that a high school diploma is not enough, and in a lot
of cases, a Bachelor's degree is not enough, but it is difficult to determine the true value of higher education. Students, educators, employers, and
everyone in between has a different definition of the true value of higher education. It all depends on what pushes you to want to achieve a higher
level of education. Do people want that Bachelors, Masters, or PhD for more money, higher status, to feel successful, or because it is what you are
"supposed to do"? If we are all honest, it is more than likely a combination of all of those reasons. For me, it is definitely a combination of wanting
to earn more money and so that I may personally feel successful. I have been in college off and on for over 10 years so the time to graduate is now,
and there is nothing that will stop me from achieving that goal.
Over the course of my five semesters at Athens State University, I have acquired several skills that I

People in the past did not stress value of receiving a higher education because it was not as indispensable as it is today. Now, people perceive others

students are concerned about getting a higher education throughout the years. Nevertheless, some people question the purposes of getting educated, and
consider it meaningless. The concept of education has a significant meaning. It enables one to take control of knowledge and apply it. It is education

College students get to analyze other subjects that they may have not shown an interest in before; that will help them construct their career. Getting the
necessary skills students need, will assure their success on anything they choose to do. "It is the education which gives a man a clear conscious view of
his own opinions and judgments, a truth in developing them, and a force in urging them" (Newman, 54). Education gives students a better
understanding their own opinions, and judgments; it creates anxiousness in developing them, a fluency in expressing them, and a power in urging them.
The economy will grow if the necessity of getting a higher education is reinforced. Education is the foundation of a country's economic growth and
the key to rid a nation of poverty. To illustrate, Japan is a country with no resources, but since it has a good educational system; Japan has the second
richest economy worldwide. On the other hand, Nigeria is a country that is rich in resources, but low in education; as a result, the majority of people
there are poor. A higher education creates a quality workforce,; besides it will promote economic stability by growing and training students for success.
Such training will capacitate hard working people, which will do well to The United States economy. The government should invest more of its money

The Importance Of Higher Education
The improvement in the education sector promotes the stability of the economy since the educated citizens have better payrolls. The societal
economies have a chance to develop with increased educated people. The whole nation benefits from education because they influence the economic
growth of a country. Hence, higher education provides the citizens with a chance for economic growth. Higher education gives the citizens an
opportunity to lead happy and healthy lives. This is because, with training, a person can earn a decent pay and as a result improve personal lives. With
the knowledge that comes from education, people know the importance of societal activities, which allows them to enhance their lives and as a result
make a positive impact on the world (Johnson et al., 2015). Education provides people with essential skills that give them an opportunity to participate
in societal and cultural activities. Hence, people lead successful and fulfilling lives. In addition to improving the daily lives of a person, higher
education helps to promote the lifestyles of the whole nation. Hence, higher education provides the citizens with an opportunity to lead healthy and
better lives.
The educational journey has helped me achieve a lot of things in life, and I would encourage other people to follow in my footsteps. I have a positive
effect when engaging with others which have been facilitated by education. Education has enabled me to develop myself whereby I am not held by

Pursuing Higher Education : College Essay
Pursuing higher education (college in this instance) is a very popular choice among high schoolers these days. Every boy and girl in high school
either dreads or looks forward to the college experience. The one who look forward to it are usually excited about the new experiences or the partying
opportunities. Those who dread it are usually worried about the workload, or being away from home. The bottom line is deciding what going to college
is all about. I believe it is more than just about getting a job. College is about learning how to learn. Lots of students enter college after going through
the motions in high school, and don't knowhow to learn. There are many types of learning methods, the most popular being lecture– styled. But the
thing about a lecture is that it is a one– time deal, and then it's over. You forget everything your teacher said and do miserable on your exams. This is
when learning how to learn comes in. College teaches you how to take notes better, how to study better, and how to stay more prepared. It also
allows for the development of time management skills, and you learn specific places you like to study. Both of which are perfected by not worrying
about having to get a job after college, but more about the eagerness to learn. Learning how to read and analyze what you're reading is also key things
that you develop through the college process. Colleges provides so many resources that you can use to expand the horizon of your learning experience.

With each passing year, the importance of a higher education degree becomes more and valuable. Most jobs now require applicants to have Bachelor
degrees, and the need to be educated has never been more important for personal wealth and satisfaction. Fortunately, access to higher education has
increased, thus making it possible for individuals to have the opportunity to pursue a higher education degree. However, even though access has
increased, equal attainment of a college degree has not followed suit. Nationally, roughly 50 percent of all students who start college earn a degree or
certificate within six years (National Center for Education Statistics). At Rutgers University – Newark (RU–N), the organization that will be analyzed
for this case study, roughly 65 percent of students complete their degree requirements within six years of starting (Rutgers Institutional Research &
Academic Planning). Therefore, it can be concluded, both on a national and local level, that while efforts to improve access to higher education have
been successful, there has not been significant success in converting increased access into higher completion rates. There are a multitude of reasons for
why this conversion has not been as successful, namely financial, social, and unattainable expectations. While all of these reasons are important and
should be addressed, the focus of this paper will review an organizational challenge contributing to the problem. This challenge is likely seen on

Reflection Of Higher Education

  • 1. Reflection Of Higher Education An intersectional reflection of my dichotomous relationship with higher education is what fuels my desire to pursue a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis. As a first–generation college student, earning a Bachelor's and Master's degrees profoundly altered the trajectory of my family out of years of generational poverty. As a result of embracing highereducation, I possess the ability to think critically and creatively, with a passion and hunger for lifelong learning. Contrarily, the experience also left some biological, psychological, and social scarring. Macroaggressions, tokenism, and implicit bias have all contributed to the way that I now live, learn, and work in the world. While these experiences did not prevent the completion of my education, it has led others to abandon the pursuit, and certainly presents an enigma to many colleges and universities around the country eager to recruit and retain scholars that identify as Black/African–American, first–generation, and/or low socioeconomic status. The majority of my professional experience revolves around this very conundrum and the time has now come to pursue extensive and original research in this chosen field. My work in student affairs provides significant opportunity to contemplate, implement and assess initiatives related to student success and retention. My current research is connected to peer education and the 1st year experience and I have active and growing experience in the needs assessment and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Argumentative Essay On Higher Education The United States of America has portrayed itself by being the "land of opportunities" where everyone can "achieve success" by being determined, hard working and having the courage to grasp the rudder of their lives and lead themselves through the right path. In this nation, the American Dream is viewed in many different ways depending on individual's culture and background. The higher education for Latino immigrants has been a concern to many people, especially those that want to achieve it. While some individuals believe that the DREAM act will result in a college graduate generation of hard working individuals who will strengthen the economy, others say they do not deserve it or that it will only encourage continued illegal immigration. ...show more content... This act would provide a pathway of legal status and "would allow residency requirements for in–state tuition" (Erisman 20). The public and political officials have a very divided opinion on this dispute. Opponents to this act, believe that giving these young adults legal residence and opening better opportunities for them will only be an incentive to break the law and will encourage continued immigration. Advocates on the other hand, believe that these students who have a desire for success have much to offer to the future of America. Erisman, claims that that students [should not] "only be offered in–state tuition but also financial aid from the state and government" (Erisman 20), since some of these undocumented students come from low–income families and they may find it very difficult to pay for college even with the benefit of in–state tuition. The Latino student immigrants who participated in Contreras study reflect the claims that Erisman conveys. They were all highly "concerned with financing college and the need for ongoing support to successfully persist" (Contreras 620). Overall the students interview in this study all share the same ideal. They believe that by receiving financial assistance, the government will only be investing in future professional Latino leaders thus building a stronger socio–economic nation for the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Persuasive Essay On Higher Education Every day, the gaps between institutions grow in the higher education hierarchy system. Over half of all the endowment money in higher education is used for about two percent of students, while the colleges housing the other 98 percent are watering down their education to accommodate their lack of funds (Maguire and Butler). This problem of inequality, along with the issue of lack of diversity at elite institutions, has to improve. In order to reform the higher education system, the changes must be initiated at the beginning of the cycle, in K–12 education. Following this, new programs should be implemented in all higher education institutions, including those of liberal arts, in order to improve curriculum, cost, and diversity. Ultimately, it should be understood that college students choose which institution to attend based on preference; therefore, numerous options should be available. With some small improvements made at both high schools and colleges, the problems found within the higher education system will soon dissolve. To tackle any issue, one must go straight to the root of the problem. In the case of higher education that is K–12 schooling. Most of the students that attend high level institutions attended high level private or public primary and secondary schools. These schools have numerous resources available to help students prepare for college. They offer SAT tutoring and AP courses. Some might even have the equipment and staff to do research. Beginning in elementary school, continuing through middle school, and ultimately reaching high school, students are bred to be college ready. They have the experience and their schools have the reputation to create the perfect college application. These students are accepted into the best schools and later, their kids will repeat the same cycle. This repetitive cycle leads families and their students with this high level secondary school background to feel entitled to be accepted to the most elite institutions. On the opposite end of the spectrum, there are students in inner cities and rural areas who do not have the luxury of a top–notch primary and secondary education. Rather than believing that they can go to college and succeed, they Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Persuasive Essay On Higher Education There are over 1,400 different colleges in the United States that you could choose to extend to achieve an higher education. You are not required to go to college, but it is highly recommended to get a higher paying job. So what do I hope to get out this college experience? Why is higher education important to me? Why did I want to get a University Education? These are a few things I thought about when I chose to go to get an higher education. In my opinion, college seems to shape you into the person you have always dreamt of becoming. From meeting people from all over the world and getting to know their culture more in depth, to trying new clubs and groups. College seems to bring people together more than high school ever did for me. I hope to gain a lot of new memories, friends and a career. That's really all people want in college is to feel accepted and to finally be who you have always wanted to be. This is such a life altering phase in my life and it's going to be amazing. It makes you feel empowered in ways such as, you don't have to be here, you are choosing to attend class and spending thousands of dollars. To someday become what you wanted to be when you were a young child. I believe going to college is going to help me achieve my goals and it makes me want strive to achieve greatness in my life. • 5. The Causes And Effects Of Higher Education The causes and effects of higher levels of education are very beneficial for one's future. Higher education allows one to be more developed and prepared for the workforce that entails a more enjoyable life than less educated people. In the United States, educated people are 79% more likely to be chosen for a job over a less educated applicant (DePrince). Education allows one to gain many characteristics that are looked for throughout the working world. Success, emotional stability, personal connections, empowerment and personal responsibility are all effects of being highly educated. As a result of these effects of being educated, one's life tends to be happier and more enjoyable than the life of a less educated individual. Education enables people to be more successful and gives them the upper–hand when it comes to being able to coax through life as an adult. Being highly educated can cause someone's income to be many tens–of–thousands of dollars higher. In a study done on high school graduates and college graduates with a bachelor's degree, the results determined that college graduates attain approximately $64,500 annually while those with a high school diploma earn $41,000 (Karageorge). With higher education, better job opportunities appear due to college teaching many versatile characteristics that companies look for. These job opportunities lead to higher salaries and better health benefits covered by the companies than people that are not qualified for these jobs. When people have a high income, they are more financially stable and tend to make ends meet easier. Many people stress over paying bills, paying off debt and being able to do what they want to be happy. When more money is applied to this situation these issue and worries diminish and happiness increases due to the lack of stress over every day problems. Once all the bills are paid people are left with nothing but free time. With this free time and extra money one could do as they want to have fun such as, going on a vacation or buying a new toy like a motorcycle to make them happy. Money is always the ultimate variable in life, due to the world revolving around it. Without success, there would not be as much money, and without as much money Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Essay about Higher Education for Free Over the years, college fees have gradually risen for high school graduates. It's been said that most jobs with a college degree earn almost double of what a high school graduate would earn. Many people all over the country have been unable to go to college because of these high fees for education. Some people think that your future shouldn't be controlled by the amount of money you pay. If these fees continue to increase, then no one will be able to attend college. Higher education for free will increase productivity within students because they can get a good job, college is now a prerequisite, and college worthy jobs have great salaries. If our schools would allow their education to be free, then it would create an even chance for high...show more content... Most times, students end up living a life they didn't want after high school. With no degree, students may find themselves working at a labor or hardworking job making little money. College students are usually better off in their life with an efficient job and a healthy family. On the other hand, some people may say that if this happens, taxes will be raised and the expenses of daily needs will cost more than ever. Also, people may say that that's what scholarships are for. Professors and teachers wouldn't be able to get paid if the college had no income. However, many colleges could use donated books and supplies to cover the expenses of school. Scholarships do not apply to everyone sometimes; there are very slim chances of getting a full ride to pay all of our college fees. As for the teachers, our government should be able to provide a weekly income of money for these teachers and staff. Higher education should, without a doubt, be free and available for all. Imagine if you were a high school student with good grades and you weren't able to go to college because of the high expenses; how would you feel? The costs have just gotten out of hand for students. Some kids have had no other choice but to enter the work field making little money. When this happens, people are unable to support themselves and are living paycheck–to–paycheck. To avoid situations like poverty, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Persuasive Essay On Higher Education Higher education is the greatest tool that can benefit a society, granted that universities can bring a sense of personal accomplishment and general knowledge. It is the Federal government's job to reflect on other educational systems, for instance Germany's higher education, and create an intuition that profits the public good and establishes a structured strategy that ensures college students are economically viable. For example, the University of California exploded when the Board of Regents approved a "32 percent tuition increases for the 2010 academic year, a vote that would raise the UC tuition to over $10,000 a year" (Selingo). Higher education should not be a risky future investment; it should be designed to help the general public and now obtaining a four–year diploma has become an essential way a person displays their preparedness for high demanding jobs. In addition, diplomas have become less available to the public due to the economic downturn, defunding of the public education systems, and increasing tuition rates. It is time to create a strategy that assists the public education system and that serves the common well–being. Therefore, it is the federal government's duty to reflect on Germany's educational methods that favor the public good and promote a change in the broken institutions by allowing free online universities and community colleges to offer four–year degrees. As a result of the recession in 2008, states have reduced public funding for Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. The Benefits of Higher Education Essay Higher education in the United States arose as an answer to the need to train clergy for the seminary. Throughout the centuries, higher education has evolved to become one of the principal means in educating individuals in specific areas of study. Individuals seek higher education to become more proficient in a particular occupation, area of study, or as a requisite for employment or advancement in specific fields such as engineering, management, or the sciences. The benefits that individuals who attend institutions of higher learning realize are more than education; the benefits are numerous and consist of socioeconomic benefits as well as personal benefits for the scholar, including income benefits, employment advantages as well as...show more content... These benefits affect local institutions that depend on volunteers to operate such as food and homeless shelters, Habitat for Humanity, local Boy's and Girl's Clubs, as well as various other charities who rely on volunteers. Moreover, the more individuals who vote influence the overall government and its policies, supporting the ideology of our founding fathers. Government is a reflection of the will of a greater number of citizens, and individuals with more education vote more often than less educated persons, therefore, educating society as a whole improves a democratic form of government. In addition to the above–mentioned social benefits, one may also note that higher education also contributes to the creation, development, and operation of public institutions. While discussing non–market private and social benefits of higher education, Walter W. McMahon, in his report "Advancing Higher Education," states, "...they likely contribute more than proportionately to the development of civic institutions, democratic institutions, and rule of law. These benefits in turn set the stage for substantial economic growth" (McMahon, Advancing). He goes on to state, "Civil institutions are built, new ideas are generated, and environmental conditions are put in place such as lower state crime, welfare, health and incarceration costs that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Persuasive Essay On Higher Education I genuinely believe that a higher education is the greatest direction our society can go that will fulfill personal accomplishment and general knowledge, it is government's job to provide a system that benefits the public good and establishes a structured strategy that ensures college students are economically viable. A four year diploma is now essential and is basically the way a person displays their preparedness for their high demanding jobs. Since the University of California exploded with distress, after the Board of Regents approved a "32 percent tuition increase for the 2010 academic year, a vote that would raise the UC tuition to over $10,000 a year" (Selingo). Since When did college tuition rise faster than inflation and when did we start feeling powerless providing ourselves with a better education? In addition, Higher education should not be a risky future investment; it should be designed to help the public good. Higher education has become less available to the public due to the economic downturn, defunding of the public education systems, and increasing tuition rates. We need a public education plan that serves the common well being; it is time for theUnited States to reflect and change our broken education system by allowing free online universities and community colleges to provide a four year degree, and reflecting on other countries educational systems that veritably favoring the public good. • 10. The Value Of University Education Essay On the Value of University Education The nature of attaining a higher level of education has changed drastically since the end of WWII with more than triple the percentage of the population attending at least some college. While receiving advanced degree used to be an opportunity only for the rich or those going into a specialized profession, it now has become an integral part of the American Dream. However, historically such masseducation was never the point of university, and the value of their teachings was much more defined because of it. In the face of the changing nature of the economy and society universities have struggled to find a value for university education. The answer colleges have found is to make the modern purpose of education, not to provide training for any specific career or life path, but to provide skills to help in life for the next 50–60 years across all arcs of life. This includes basic responsibility, active education, independence, and interpersonal skills, and while career training is still a part it has been replaced as the primary goal of a liberal education by these new talents and necessities. (Historical background in the opening really ties in) College is a time of transition for a majority of students who enter in a classical experience of 4 years of on–campus or near–campus living, with classes and life to balance. As such colleges do a lot to promote the development of basic responsibility. Certainly more decisions and freedom is left Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Essay On Higher Education Design and Methods Introduction: Since the inception of higher education acts, the goal of the federal government has been to increase access to students who may not have otherwise been able to attend. For Financial Aid Administrators, it is not enough to simply get low–income students through the college doors of higher education, but ensuring that students are successfully persisting and progressing to the completion of their college degree. Previous studies support a connection between financial aid and college graduation. Framework and Model – (research question/hypothesis, data sources) This study utilizes a quantitative study design to study the relationship between low–income students' access to financial aid and their progress...show more content... Focusing on this university as opposed to other state schools was preferable due to a large number of students and the diversity of the student population as compared to other state schools within the state. Additionally, this University has 3 campuses (one in the southern part of the state, one in the central part and one in the northern part) thus providing a representative sample of the state with regard to characteristics including socioeconomic status, race, and gender. This study utilized secondary data analysis. The data was extracted from the larger data set through the University's Department of Institutional Research (IR). The role of this department is to collect, analyze and report on data for institutional planning, policy development and represents the university as an arm which disseminates public information services, in order to meet the needs of the university community and external stakeholders. For the purpose of this paper, the data was then organized and statistics were calculated based on the identified independent and dependent variables. The sample consisted of a fall 2012 cohort, totaling #______ students, entering as a first time, full–time freshman. The selection looks at the dependent variable (graduation rates) and captures whether or not low–income students successfully graduate within four years of their matriculation, compared to other socioeconomic populations. • 12. Essay about Higher Education Higher education is optional, but to enter a respectable career, one must continue their education in order to achieve his financial and/or personal goals. Teenagers who attend college use their extended schooling to further obtain knowledge. The primary objective of higher education is to enhance one's abilities for his future. A student can learn from school in numerous ways, but liberal education is not a way to attract students into further and higher education. However, students can learn a lot more through experiences that have affected their personal lives. I agree with author Mike Rose's theory that education needs are reached to obtain a higher academic level by teaching students information that can be related to their personal...show more content... However, he has not thought about the students who want to attend college and quickly earn their degree so they can start their careers. I disagree with Bloom because he encourages the idea of taking extra irrelevant classes to achieve the experience of education. It usually takes about four years to earn a bachelors degree. There are many courses such as English, math, history, art, etc. that a student must go through before they get to start on the classes that concentrate on their intended major. These basic courses are part of a program called general education. After completing general education (which usually takes about two years), the students can then begin to study for their degree. Colleges should abandon the law of students having to take general education courses because the courses are irrelevant to their field of study, unnecessary and a waste of time. Instead of taking the extra courses, students can simply meet their needs of a degree in a shorter period of time. Also, Bloom not only that wants students to take general education courses, he wants them to further their education by taking advanced irrelevant courses. Therefore, in their future, they would have numerous opportunities for a better career. Because if a job is not right for the student, he would have other choices to obtain a new job. Rose feels students should not learn from the canon books style. Students have an easier time learning when they relate to the Get more content on HelpWriting.net

In an article in Change, Arthur Levine and Jeanette Cureton quote John Henry Cardinal Newman who wrote The Idea of a University in the mid 1800's. "His ideal was a residential community of students and teachers devoted to the intellect. To him a college was 'an alma mater, knowing her children one by one, not a foundry, or a mint, or a treadmill.' " To Newman, a university was a gathering–place for those who wanted to enrich their lives through learning, not a place where students could be molded. Is this the case today? The New Jersey City University states that a liberal arts curriculum will "provide students with the kind of knowledge that will help them live a more rewarding life––one that is rich with meaning." Their College of Arts and Sciences contends that it "is dedicated to providing students with an education" that will "expand their perceptions and give them a firm foundation for living, working, and decision making." • 14. Higher Education And High Education Essay Over the last several decades, higher education has gone through an unprecedented growth period, and as a result, the average university has more students and a larger output now than ever before (Amaral, Jones, and Karseth, 2013). Higher education is a privilege that I value immensely. Having gone through my fair share of ups and downs when it comes to earning my Bachelor's degree, I have come to appreciate the difficult and sometimes the seemingly never ending road of obtaining a college degree. These days it seems that a high school diploma is not enough, and in a lot of cases, a Bachelor's degree is not enough, but it is difficult to determine the true value of higher education. Students, educators, employers, and everyone in between has a different definition of the true value of higher education. It all depends on what pushes you to want to achieve a higher level of education. Do people want that Bachelors, Masters, or PhD for more money, higher status, to feel successful, or because it is what you are "supposed to do"? If we are all honest, it is more than likely a combination of all of those reasons. For me, it is definitely a combination of wanting to earn more money and so that I may personally feel successful. I have been in college off and on for over 10 years so the time to graduate is now, and there is nothing that will stop me from achieving that goal. Over the course of my five semesters at Athens State University, I have acquired several skills that I Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Purpose of Higher Education Essay People in the past did not stress value of receiving a higher education because it was not as indispensable as it is today. Now, people perceive others not only by their appearances, but by their accomplishments. Employers always hire people with the most education and experience. The majority of students are concerned about getting a higher education throughout the years. Nevertheless, some people question the purposes of getting educated, and consider it meaningless. The concept of education has a significant meaning. It enables one to take control of knowledge and apply it. It is education what prepares the mind to comprehend and learn important ideas. College students get to analyze other subjects that they may have not shown an interest in before; that will help them construct their career. Getting the necessary skills students need, will assure their success on anything they choose to do. "It is the education which gives a man a clear conscious view of his own opinions and judgments, a truth in developing them, and a force in urging them" (Newman, 54). Education gives students a better understanding their own opinions, and judgments; it creates anxiousness in developing them, a fluency in expressing them, and a power in urging them. The economy will grow if the necessity of getting a higher education is reinforced. Education is the foundation of a country's economic growth and the key to rid a nation of poverty. To illustrate, Japan is a country with no resources, but since it has a good educational system; Japan has the second richest economy worldwide. On the other hand, Nigeria is a country that is rich in resources, but low in education; as a result, the majority of people there are poor. A higher education creates a quality workforce,; besides it will promote economic stability by growing and training students for success. Such training will capacitate hard working people, which will do well to The United States economy. • 17. Pursuing Higher Education : College Essay Pursuing higher education (college in this instance) is a very popular choice among high schoolers these days. Every boy and girl in high school either dreads or looks forward to the college experience. The one who look forward to it are usually excited about the new experiences or the partying opportunities. Those who dread it are usually worried about the workload, or being away from home. The bottom line is deciding what going to college is all about. I believe it is more than just about getting a job. College is about learning how to learn. Lots of students enter college after going through the motions in high school, and don't knowhow to learn. There are many types of learning methods, the most popular being lecture– styled. But the thing about a lecture is that it is a one– time deal, and then it's over. You forget everything your teacher said and do miserable on your exams. This is when learning how to learn comes in. College teaches you how to take notes better, how to study better, and how to stay more prepared. It also allows for the development of time management skills, and you learn specific places you like to study. Both of which are perfected by not worrying about having to get a job after college, but more about the eagerness to learn. Learning how to read and analyze what you're reading is also key things that you develop through the college process. Colleges provides so many resources that you can use to expand the horizon of your learning experience. Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. With each passing year, the importance of a higher education degree becomes more and valuable. Most jobs now require applicants to have Bachelor degrees, and the need to be educated has never been more important for personal wealth and satisfaction. Fortunately, access to higher education has increased, thus making it possible for individuals to have the opportunity to pursue a higher education degree. However, even though access has increased, equal attainment of a college degree has not followed suit. Nationally, roughly 50 percent of all students who start college earn a degree or certificate within six years (National Center for Education Statistics). At Rutgers University – Newark (RU–N), the organization that will be analyzed for this case study, roughly 65 percent of students complete their degree requirements within six years of starting (Rutgers Institutional Research & Academic Planning). Therefore, it can be concluded, both on a national and local level, that while efforts to improve access to higher education have been successful, there has not been significant success in converting increased access into higher completion rates. There are a multitude of reasons for why this conversion has not been as successful, namely financial, social, and unattainable expectations. While all of these reasons are important and should be addressed, the focus of this paper will review an organizational challenge contributing to the problem. This challenge is likely seen on Get more content on HelpWriting.net
