Why should you smile?
I. Imagine: you wake up in the morning. You get ready and grab a cup of coffee. Then, you walk out the door, seeing many faces as you make your
way to work, and walk up to your building. When you walk inside expecting to be greeted by many more positive faces, you see none, and so you
walk over and sit down at your desk. While thinking back on your morning to work you were realizing that there was not a moment of joy. There was

For this assignment, I reviewed Ivan Coyote's persuasive speech, "Why We Need Gender Neutral Bathrooms," In this speech, Ivan told the
audience that he was transgender and had a difficult time using public restrooms. The reason being was due to the fact that Ivan was not a woman,
and not a man. Ivan used a lot of different persuasive techniques to get the point across that there should be gender neutral restrooms in every
public space and outlet. One of the impactful parts of this speech was the use of introducing personal stories. This utilizes the term "logos" which
means evidence and reasoning. It is very difficult to open up and talk about past experiences that have heavily impacted you in some way. Doing it
publicly, or a greater cause and with a goal of bringing awareness is completely different. Ivan was able to go to TED and discuss his/her story to
the public, while also knowing it would be taped and posted to the media forever. This was a very commendable and brave thing for this speaker to
do. It was heartbreaking when Ivan mentioned stories of attempting to do a simple human everyday task, go to the restroom. Ivan talks about being
glared at, being talked about, yelled at, physically assaulted, and plain dragged out of the restroom by security guards while still pulling his/her pants
up. This is outrageous that because other people are not comfortable with the idea of transgender people that they have to suffer. It is unfair that coming

There are numerous benefits to giving blood. A. Soon after giving blood you will receive a copy of your blood type, in case you do not know it, in the
mail. B. It might also say "Congratulations for donating you have just saved at least three lives!" 1. Some places give out a T–shirt or a gift card to
your favorite restaurant. 2. Also, you get to eat snacks that you may never eat otherwise. 3. Just the satisfaction of knowing you just saved lives. C.
Some of you might still have questions about giving blood. 1. You might think "if I give blood will it hurt?" 2. You can not get hurt giving blood. 3.

It might be hard to imagine that there are actual rules to follow that make someone an effective persuasive speaker, but there are definite ways to
do so. Persuasive appeals and devices are used regularly in order to convince the common man and are used in everyday speech to more formal
settings. Using these devices, speakers can convince their audience of the reality of their point in order to encourage their audience to believe in
their point. Almost all speakers have a common goal of encouraging people to do or feel a certain way and it usually involves a call to action. The
speeches that are particularly strong are the ones that inspire emotions within the people listening because evoking a reaction results in feeling more
compelled to support a cause. Speakers, over time, have used the persuasive appeal of pathos and the rhetorical devices of imagery and anaphora in
order to further their argument by generating emotions that call people to action.
In Abraham Lincoln's "Second Inaugural Address" and Barack Obama's "Speech Commemorating Selma", both speeches use pathos effectively in

There are three types of persuasive speeches. There are speeches of Value, Fact, and Policy. The first one speeches of Value are when speaker tries
to convince listeners that their personal value judgment is true through the way they use their words or tone. In speeches of value, we argue about
whether something is right or wrong and moral or immoral. Just like you would do with questions of fact, you can create your main points by asking
a strategic question in your thesis of "Why is this good?" or "Why is this moral?" The answers to this question will give you the speech's main points.

Ever since this country was established citizens have fought for a right that often is not exercised by today's youth; along with many others. This
