Argumentative Essay On Corruption
"Corruption is a cancer: a cancer that eats away at a citizen's faith in democracy, diminishes the instinct for innovation and creativity; already–tight
national budgets, crowding out important national investments. It wastes the talent of entire generations. It scares away investments and jobs" –Joe
Biden. This quote accurately describes the ongoing issue of corruption and why it's so prevalent especially in developing countries. Corruption is
defined as a practice or practices used by government officials to take advantage of their power for personal gain. This can be found in several forms
including bribery, graft, extortion, kickback, cronyism, and embezzlement. Corruption is a serious issue in today's society, and often devastates the
economy and the citizens inhabiting the country. It creates inequalities in the distribution of income and wealth. Corruption affects a nation's
development economically and politically. Not only is it unethical, but it also hinders development and undermines the principles of democracy. This
essay will discusses three main subjects or focal points: corruption in the United States through the legal system, corruption in underdeveloped
countries through the government, and the methods some are using to stop corruption.
In many ways, the United States can be viewed as one of the most corrupt countries in the world. Hit shows such as Scandal and House of Cards
depict the political world as a vicious playground, one where you can make underground moves and exchange secrets in order to elevate political
standing or achieve a specific goal. Most of the time this leads to a person's financial gains or them rising up in ranks. From the law enforcement &
court system to prisons to even the white house itself, corruption is evident. There have been several incidents in which law enforcement officials have
abused their power for personal gain. Operation Rockfish is a prime example of how the same law enforcement officials people rely on for protection
and safety can be the same ones endangering the community. In North Carolina, there was an FBI investigation formed around corrupt law
enforcement officials. It started off with Lann Tjuan Clanton, a former police officer with the

As someone that worked in corrections for 16–years, I have seen corruption events at both the state level and at the local county level in correctional
settings. I there are two common forms of corruptions that I have seen correctional officers walked out and arrested for having sexual relations with
offenders or bringing in contraband to offenders. These unethical actions by correctional staff are ones that break the trust with not only the offenders
and staff but also the community that the staff has sworn by oath to serve and protect. We also see that an element of corruption and unethical actions
have and do take place in the criminal justice area of police officers at the city, county, and state levels across the country (Andonova, 2017). When we
as members of the American society see these corruptions in the law enforcement agencies, it is not only a break in the trust that we give them but also
most times a violation of state and federal laws. As a community, we must expect that those that work in law enforcement are going to make mistakes,
we know that no one is perfect. But when we see that criminal statutes have been broken by a member of the law enforcement community we must ask
ourselves just where the line between mistake and corruption is drawn, and the ethical understanding between the two (Andonova, 2017). The
connection between misconduct in corrections and in policing leave a lot of questions to be answered. Such as, are all law enforcement officers

Political Corruption Essay
Political corruption has existed throughout the ages. It believed to be most prominent in positions of power, because of the role money plays in getting
people power. However, over the centuries, corruption has changed so much so as to not match a particular definition of corruption, perpetually
growing deceptively harder to find (Ebbe).
The broadest, most suitable definition which exists today simply states that corruption is any illegal act performed by a politician to produce results
which would have been otherwise impossible (Ebbe). In some cases, government, politicians, and criminals entwine for the sake of amassing money in
order to secure their own jobs. This form of corruption was apparent in the mafia's association with the...show more content...
This paired with poor law enforcement yields an impossibly hard to get rid of corruption. In Kenya, political corruption has grown rampant. People, who
are supposed to be representing the interests of their constituency, instead take money from the constituents to keep their representative positions.
Political corruption is parasitic; it finds a host, and can almost always find a way to survive. Eventually, people grow dependent on this corruption as a
means for income, thus forming a symbiosis between the people who benefit from it, and the elites that regulate it. People sometimes ignore the
corruption surrounding them, feeling that as long as the politicians do their jobs well, their 'extra salary' can't hurt (BNS).
Generally after revolutions take place, anarchy exists. No new government simply moves into place. During this time, it is easiest for Corruption to
take hold of this Government as it forms, limiting or halting the true development of a government for the people. In an environment infested with
corruption, any acts of corruption simply become commonplace. Where anarchy exists, people lack the power of representation. If there is a
government in which corruption exists, people lack a voice with which to take action. A government is necessary for the growth of people and nations
as a whole. If the government is not legitimate, it will only act as a parasite to its host––the people and the country's economy.

Introduction Corruption is the use of entrusted authority for private gain. Corruption has two sides, the receiver and the giver. According to Myint
(2000), both parties to corruption engage in the practice to gain from it and, therefore, both should be accounted for the practice. Corruption is vital
barrier to the development of a country. The World Bank has identified it as the main stumbling block to developing countries to their development
endeavors. The societal ill is most outspoken in the public...show more content...
No society has corruption generic to each member of the society. Corruption in a society is classified into three categories; it may be rare,
widespread or systemic. In communities where corruption is rare, there are remarkably few incidences of it, which are usually, extremely difficult to
identify. When it is widespread, it means that it occurs in large numbers, in the society, scandals abound in the society, and it is possible to identify the
corrupt individuals in the society. If it is systemic, it means that it is inherent, for members of the society to receive certain services have to bribe the
officials. Corruption as a cultural tradition does not suits only a few members of the society who practice it. When a government is termed as corrupt,
this does not mean that all the officials in the government are corrupt, it is only some unscrupulous officials who are scandalous and painted an image
that the government is corrupt and tainted its image. The same applies to culture as a determinant of the level of corruption in a society. When a certain
community is termed to have a culture of corruption, such a postulation does not go to the finer details of the society to analyze its individual
constituents. When a proper analysis of the mistaken corrupt culture in a society, it

Effects Of Corruption On The Society
First, corruption is a disease, when a society infected by it, it will collapse. In other words, when corruption spreads, it touches every aspects of the
society, and that will lead to create a weak and destroyed one. Having a strong developed country is depending on having a strong developed society,
and to achieve this goal we need a society free from corruption. Thus, no country or society can grow and develop with a corruption dilemma. The
equation of having strong developed society is good education, good human development, and achieving equality among individuals. Therefore, when
corruption effect those factors, the country will face a dark future where no hope of development. In the article of "effects of corruption on society".
Mr. Bala (2017) said that examined how corruption effect society. For example, he mention education and what happened if it touched by corruption.
He said, in some countries some universities are excepting students just because of his rich parent not because of being a good student or not.
According to Mr. Bala some rich parent make a contribution to the university and by this way they make sure that there son will have a seat in a good
university, and that's is one image of corruption. Thus, when an educational institution except this kind of behavior it deny a qualified student the right
to study in good college just because his parent cannot donate to the university. Therefore, corruption effect the society in abad way, and hold it

How Is Power Corrupt In Macbeth
With Power Comes Corruption "All power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely." is a quote from Lord John Dalberg–Acton,
explaining that any amount of power can corrupt the mind, but absolute power will take over. This is represented throughout history: in politics,
monarchies and times like the french revolution. Many writers have used this theme in their works. One work that includes this theme is William
Shakespeare's Macbeth. The play Macbeth follows Macbeth, a brave warrior as he gains power from his deeds both good and bad. By killing the
Duncan, the former king, Macbeth rises to power and takes control of his country. With every bit of power that the Macbeth's gain, they become more

Despite their knowledge of what's wrong and right they go along with their plans anyways because of their driving force of corruption and greed.
Although Macbeth commits the murder, Lady Macbeth shows that she has just as many dark and corrupt thoughts as him. The one who comes up
with the murder plan is Lady Macbeth, directly after she learns about the prophecy. After Macbeth informs her of the king's overnight stay, Lady
Macbeth's first words are "O, never/ Shall sun that morrow see!" (1. 5. 67–68) as her plan to kill the king is already being put into motion. If Lady
Macbeth had not made the plans Macbeth may not have gone through with the murder. Lady macbeth becomes a driving, manipulative force to
Macbeth. She justifies why killing Duncan is good and shames him into committing horrible deeds. When Macbeth tries to refuse she says "When you
durst do it, then you were a man;/ And, to be more than what you were, you would/ Be so much more the man." (1. 7. 54–56), challenging his
masculinity. In the end, Lady Macbeth isn't the only one who's mind becomes corrupted, she drags Macbeth down with her. Finally, Lady Macbeth
pretends that the guilt doesn't really bother her, she simply tells her husband that he is weak. She tries hide her corruption through lies and by putting
Macbeth down, but in the end she falters, realises her guilt and drives herself insane. When Macbeth gains more power, his

Essay on Government Corruption
Over the last few years, the issue of corruption––the abuse of public office for private gain––has attracted renewed interest, both among academics and
policymakers. There are a number of reasons why this topic has come under recent inspection. Corruption scandals have toppled governments in both
major industrial countries and developing countries. In the transition countries, the shift from command economies to free market economies has
created massive opportunities for the appropriation of rents, excessive profits, and has often been accompanied by a change from a well–organized
system of corruption to a more chaotic and deleterious one. With the end of the cold war, donor countries have placed less...show more content...
Since the ultimate source of rent–seeking behavior is the availability of rents, corruption is likely to occur where restrictions and government
intervention lead to the presence of such excessive profits. Examples include trade restrictions such as tariffs and import quotas, industrial policies such
as subsidies and tax deductions, price controls, multiple exchange rate practices and foreign exchange allocation schemes, and government–controlled
provision of credit. Some rents may arise in the absence of government intervention, as in the case of natural resources, such as oil, whose supply is
limited by nature and whose extraction cost is far lower than its market price. Since abnormal profits are available to those who extract oil, officials
who allocate extraction rights are likely to be offered bribes. Finally, one would expect that corruption is more likely to take place when civil
servants are paid very low wages and often must resort to collecting bribes in order to feed their families.
While all of the hypotheses described above are empirically testable, in the sense that data are available for that purpose, only a few have actually been
tested. What empirical studies have been done support certain hypotheses: namely, that there is less corruption where there are fewer trade restrictions;
where governments do not engage in favoritist industrial policies; and perhaps where

Corruption of Government Essay
The unlawful use of a person's position while in power leads to multiple problems with today's government. The corrupt methods politicians use are
ideas that are strictly in place for personal gain. Present throughout history and still prevalent within today's world, government corruption has consisted
of a number of negative issues including bribery, economic and social impacts, and the misuse of power. Government's role within daily life has been
shown to have negative effects as seen in many aspects of life as well as in literature. Bribery can be defined as when one is offered money or some
other incentive with the intention to corrupt a person's actions.В¬ Bribery is the main component, if not the basis, of government corruption....show

If anyone in Equality's society were to disobey the Council, they would be punished. "We have seen one of such men burned alive in the square of
the City. And it was a sight which has stayed with us through the years, and it haunts us, and follows us, and it gives us no rest. We were a child
then, ten years old. And we stood in the great square with all the children and all the men of the City, sent to behold the burning. They brought the
Transgressor out into the square and they led them to the pyre. They had torn out the tongue of the Transgressor, so that they could speak no longer"
(Rand 50). The Council had shown the community the burning of the Transgressor as a threatening bribe so that the community would know not to
disobey The Council, because if they did they would be punished. The threat of punishment was an indirect form of bribery placed by that society's
government on its daily life. Bribery is one of the negative side effects that result from the corruption of government actions. There are also
economic effects that result from government corruption. These economic effects coincided with bribery. People who work for companies that are
at risk of being shut down for health or other reasons will pay any amount to make their problems go away. In Mexico, food store owners such as Jose
Luis Garcia will pay anywhere from $50–$100 to have inspectors turn the other way (Archibold). This happens on a small scale such as

Essay on Political Corruption
Political corruption is a serious problem limiting development in emerging economies. Many scholars have identified corruption as the new enemy of
democratization, blaming it for limiting political and socio–economic development of most developing nations (Bardhan P.,1997; Seligson M., 2002,
Canache D. and Allison M., 2005). Although no one can really measure "corruption" due to its discrete nature and the different discourses defining it,
citizen's perception of corruption can give us an idea of its direction. Manny current approaches to the study of corruption take into consideration the
importance of corruption perception indexes (Johnston 2005, Acemoglu D. and Robinson J. 2001, Canache D. and Allison M., 2005), and the

C. E. Chang and Chu Y 2006; Johnston M. 1983). These works, nonetheless, show no clear differentiation between tolerance and acceptance. For the
purpose of this literature review, however, public tolerance of corruption will solely refer to the civil society's judgment of endurance of corruption as
illegitimate. The argument explored in this literature is that the origins of public tolerance of corruption in Latin American can be linked to regime
change oscillations in their recent political history. These fluctuations in their political transition processes had important effects on how citizens
defined their relationship with democratic institutions, and ultimately with the institutional channels and paths that allow them to hold their leaders
/public officials accountable for their actions. Finally, consideration is given to other potential socio–economic factors that might help perpetuate the
status quo of public tolerance of corruption. There exists a great scholarly consensus about the factors leading to the building of strong democratic
accountability institutions. Many scholars agree that the active participation of civic groups, political rights, collective interest and strong associations
to democratic institutions are essential factors to triggering accountability demands (Johnston M., 2005; O'Donnell 1994 & 1999; Canache D., and
Allison 2005; Acemoglu D. and Robinson J. 2001, Mueller, 1990; Rose–Acherman 1999). Not

Many unsolved problems in many African countries, but the issue of the rise of corruption are disturbing, and the amends it has done to the polity are
vast. The fear of fraud leads to restrict movement of documents in offices, slow traffic on the highways, port congestion, ghost workers syndrome,
queues at passport offices, police extortion tollgates and gas stations, vote irregularities among others. Even the nutty people on the road remember the
devastation caused by bribery – the funds allocated for their success disappear into some people pockets. Thus, some people believe corruption is the

population. I argued that for any fight against corruption to be successful in Africa. Here are some of the steps should be taken to curb corruption in
Africa. Firstly, watch–dog agencies should be established like Economic and financial crime commission in Nigeria. There were being established to
receive and inspect complaints made by individuals against abuses acts of public officials. Secondly, the government should require all chief
executive or local officials should sign a statement granting permission to banks i.e. both local and overseas, real estate or property line to verify any
assets they may think. Breaking this layer of privacy is necessary if attribute declarations are to be confirmed and accountability enforced. In

Persuasive Essay On Corruption In Society
Humanity would not be improved if all were to strive towards utter perfection. When we try hard to be perfect, an unattainable goal, we are bound
to fail. Therefore, this inevitable "failure" shall lead to frustration and anger at ourselves though we have done nothing wrong. Should society not be
taunted by this impossible goal, society as a whole will be happier and live fulfilled lives. Whereas if everyone were to be reaching for perfection,
everyone's lives would be the exact opposite. The core of our society would be filled with more stress–more than what already exists at least– as well
as less contemptment with our actions. These negative emotions would result in the implementation of bad means as a result of hopelessness. People
will be lead to believe that after failing so many times, the only thing left to do in order to be perfect is to not play by the rules, because when they
did, it didn't work. According to mid–twentieth century sociologist Robert Merton, "The moral mandate to achieve success thus exerts pressures to
succeed, by fair means if possible and by foul means if necessary"(Robert Merton in Allenby 17). This leads to not only corruption of the individual,
but corruption in society as a whole. This is due to the intense level of competition in society that is due to everyone feeling as if they must be the best
and outdo those that surround them. These high levels of competition and little room for success leads to stress, depression, and people resulting to
loopholes to make their way up to the top. Not only that, but even at a young age, children are being pressured to be the best. Christopher Bergland,
ultra–endurance athlete, writer, and psychologist, additionally addressed cheating in his Psychology Today column (2012) when he stated, "We live
in such a competitive world. From a very young age our children are taught that if they want to 'succeed' in life that they have to finish in the top
percentile in just about every challenge they face. But not everyone can be a champion."(Begland 6). Therefore, not only are adults affected by the
pressures of competition, but children are too. If the stress piles up at an early age, then so do the bad habits which will all carry on into their

Argumentative Essay On Power And Corruption
Power and corruption are concepts that are difficult to fully understand. Several controversies occur within these topics. There are both conventional
and unconventional ways of viewing power. In an attempt to make a claim contrary to common belief, David Brin stated, "It is said that power
corrupts, but actually it's more true that power attracts the corruptible." This statement is not accurate because power is the corrupting device
responsible for a plethora of downfalls leaders have experienced.
Downfalls from power occur when there is an imbalance between the two souls present in the body. Every human has two conflicting souls that serve
as consciences to guide one's actions: the animal soul and the godly soul. The former acts as a means of acquiring the necessities of life, acting in the
best interest of oneself. The latter focuses on doing what is morally right, aiming to help others. Often, the animal soul is associated with evil. Though
everyone has both souls, some may have one soul dominant over the other, leading them to have more attributes associated with that specific soul. For
example, greed and corruption are prevalent among people with excessive power. When viewing the behavior of those in authoritative positions, one
may notice that, "Their animal soul has become so dominant over time that it becomes the norm" (Anchor Text). Their need for success has become
equivalent to an animal's desire for food and life. People without power also have animal souls as

Corruption And Its Effects On Society
Corruption is globally regarded to be one of the most immoral and ethically wrong practices in the political realm. There is a reason as to why
corruption has such a strong negative connotation associated with it, as impacts caused by its direct and indirect effects on society cause massive
consequences. The very nature of corruption undermines almost all processes and goals set fourth by a liberal democracy, while causing high distrust
and low public approval between officials and citizens.
The study of corruption is nothing new; it has been the center of substantial analysis and research for decades. Surveying citizens and asking their
perception of the level of corruption in their country mainly carried out early studies on corruption. Later, more direct ways of gathering data emerged
with the use of undercover agents that allowed researchers to interpret more reliable data that ultimately gave them better results.
Many people living in the developed or modernized world, such as North America or Europe, live under the rule of liberal democracies and are
unaware of the extent of corruption that exists around the world. Many citizens living in developing countries face levels of corruption much higher
than those found in democratically consolidated and developed states; as the societal environment found in developing states fosters the proper setting
for corruption to take place. Corruption is extremely prevalent in a majority of nations around the world, making it

Reaction Paper On Corruption
The topic of corruption is attracting much attention for politicians, accountants, economists and people in large (Maunuken, R., 1988).The term
"corruption' covers a great variety of sins (Hager, L. Michael, 1973). Corrupt means to abuse or destroy www.Dictionary.reference.com. Corruption is
the sale of government property for personal gain by government officials (Ramos, M., 2003). According to Ramos, M., (2003)corruption is also use of
official position, rank or status by an office bearer for his own personal benefit. Corruption involves behavior which deviates from the normal duties of
a public role; pecuniary or status gain; or violates rules against the exercise of certain types of private–regarding influence (U Myint, 2000). The
behavior of corruption includes sins such as bribery; extortion; fraud; embezzlement; nepotism; cronyism; appropriation of public assets and property
for personal use (Joseph Nye, 1967). Corruption is becoming more common and reaching higher levels in today's settings and can be attributed to
diminish state and societal capacity, lawlessness and violence, and short–term horizons generated by political instability (SYNAPSE UNDP, 2019).
People are engaging in corruption as a result of the expectation of a personal gain (be it monetary or otherwise), when they are granted power by
society to perform certain public duties. Damage the public interest and the biggest loser from corruption is society as a whole (Friedrich, C.J.,1990).

Argumentative Essay On Political Corruption
Power tends to make people corrupt, and the more power a person has the more corrupt they tend to become. Political corruption is when people from
the government use their power for their own benefit, and the corrupt individual can suffer negative consequences, such as jail time. Corruption is a
topic that not a lot of people seem to be interested in or want to discuss. Corruption in governments has been a problem for thousands of years, and it
negatively affects our society. It negatively affects society because it destabilizes society and endangers our ethical values and justice. Corruption
makes our government weak, and it makes people suffer by government officials being able to take advantage of the public resources that are
available to us. Corruption is wrong and needs to be dealt with, and the best way to do that is by passing anti–corruption laws and finding solutions
that can completely destroy corruption. Political corruption is an illegal act that occurs when members of the government use their power for personal
use, it's wrong because the root of corruption is money and people only want to be selfish and get more money. The author states that, "politicians are
able to use their money and power to make what they want happen, but they are also able to look the other way when they are offered a great sum of
money." (Heidenheimer). Politicians are corrupt because they use their money and power to get what they want, but people can also offer them money
so that they can do what the other person wants them to do. For that reason, "politicians use bribery to fix the problems that they sometimes have
because it is the only option that they have or it's the easier option." (Rose–Ackerman). Politicians do use their money and personal power to fix their
own problems because that may be the only thing they can do or they just want to do things the easier way and pay someone off. Another thing that
the author states is, "It's an injustice for people while politicians get more power and money based on the wrong decisions that they make. They use
public resource as their own resources and take advantage of it." (We are all affected). Government officials are able to use our resources for their own

I came up with a problem that concerns many parents. It seems as though violence plays a role in the lives of many people. Even innocent children

issue but the content and the lack of parental overview also play an extreme role. In a year, the average child spends 900 hours in school and nearly
1,023 hours in front of a TV. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), kids in the United States watch about 4 hours of TV a day–
even though the AAP guidelines say children older than 2 should watch no more than 1 to 2 hours a day of quality programming. (Kids Health). What
is even more astonishing that it is estimated that they will have witnessed 8,000 murders and more than 100,000 acts of violence by the time they leave
elementary school.
As technology improves and the amount of violent entertainment increases, images becoming more graphic and results in a more realistic portray of
violence. Television viewing affects children of different ages in different ways. While children may spend many hours in front of a television set at
an early age, the programming has little effect. At the age of two a child will imitate the actions of the live model, example a parent more than a
model on television. However by the age of three the child will begin to imitate the TV. characters. The attitudes toward television drastically change
over a child's life. When researching the

Argumentative Essay On Corruption

  • 1. Argumentative Essay On Corruption "Corruption is a cancer: a cancer that eats away at a citizen's faith in democracy, diminishes the instinct for innovation and creativity; already–tight national budgets, crowding out important national investments. It wastes the talent of entire generations. It scares away investments and jobs" –Joe Biden. This quote accurately describes the ongoing issue of corruption and why it's so prevalent especially in developing countries. Corruption is defined as a practice or practices used by government officials to take advantage of their power for personal gain. This can be found in several forms including bribery, graft, extortion, kickback, cronyism, and embezzlement. Corruption is a serious issue in today's society, and often devastates the economy and the citizens inhabiting the country. It creates inequalities in the distribution of income and wealth. Corruption affects a nation's development economically and politically. Not only is it unethical, but it also hinders development and undermines the principles of democracy. This essay will discusses three main subjects or focal points: corruption in the United States through the legal system, corruption in underdeveloped countries through the government, and the methods some are using to stop corruption. In many ways, the United States can be viewed as one of the most corrupt countries in the world. Hit shows such as Scandal and House of Cards depict the political world as a vicious playground, one where you can make underground moves and exchange secrets in order to elevate political standing or achieve a specific goal. Most of the time this leads to a person's financial gains or them rising up in ranks. From the law enforcement & court system to prisons to even the white house itself, corruption is evident. There have been several incidents in which law enforcement officials have abused their power for personal gain. Operation Rockfish is a prime example of how the same law enforcement officials people rely on for protection and safety can be the same ones endangering the community. In North Carolina, there was an FBI investigation formed around corrupt law enforcement officials. It started off with Lann Tjuan Clanton, a former police officer with the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. As someone that worked in corrections for 16–years, I have seen corruption events at both the state level and at the local county level in correctional settings. I there are two common forms of corruptions that I have seen correctional officers walked out and arrested for having sexual relations with offenders or bringing in contraband to offenders. These unethical actions by correctional staff are ones that break the trust with not only the offenders and staff but also the community that the staff has sworn by oath to serve and protect. We also see that an element of corruption and unethical actions have and do take place in the criminal justice area of police officers at the city, county, and state levels across the country (Andonova, 2017). When we as members of the American society see these corruptions in the law enforcement agencies, it is not only a break in the trust that we give them but also most times a violation of state and federal laws. As a community, we must expect that those that work in law enforcement are going to make mistakes, we know that no one is perfect. But when we see that criminal statutes have been broken by a member of the law enforcement community we must ask ourselves just where the line between mistake and corruption is drawn, and the ethical understanding between the two (Andonova, 2017). The connection between misconduct in corrections and in policing leave a lot of questions to be answered. Such as, are all law enforcement officers Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Political Corruption Essay Political corruption has existed throughout the ages. It believed to be most prominent in positions of power, because of the role money plays in getting people power. However, over the centuries, corruption has changed so much so as to not match a particular definition of corruption, perpetually growing deceptively harder to find (Ebbe). The broadest, most suitable definition which exists today simply states that corruption is any illegal act performed by a politician to produce results which would have been otherwise impossible (Ebbe). In some cases, government, politicians, and criminals entwine for the sake of amassing money in order to secure their own jobs. This form of corruption was apparent in the mafia's association with the...show more content... This paired with poor law enforcement yields an impossibly hard to get rid of corruption. In Kenya, political corruption has grown rampant. People, who are supposed to be representing the interests of their constituency, instead take money from the constituents to keep their representative positions. Political corruption is parasitic; it finds a host, and can almost always find a way to survive. Eventually, people grow dependent on this corruption as a means for income, thus forming a symbiosis between the people who benefit from it, and the elites that regulate it. People sometimes ignore the corruption surrounding them, feeling that as long as the politicians do their jobs well, their 'extra salary' can't hurt (BNS). Generally after revolutions take place, anarchy exists. No new government simply moves into place. During this time, it is easiest for Corruption to take hold of this Government as it forms, limiting or halting the true development of a government for the people. In an environment infested with corruption, any acts of corruption simply become commonplace. Where anarchy exists, people lack the power of representation. If there is a government in which corruption exists, people lack a voice with which to take action. A government is necessary for the growth of people and nations as a whole. If the government is not legitimate, it will only act as a parasite to its host––the people and the country's economy. Various steps have been Get more content on HelpWriting.net

(Ret) Kaplan University Online CJ340–02: Applied Criminal Justice Ethics Professor Kevin Stoehr 17 July 2012 Introduction Corruption is the use of entrusted authority for private gain. Corruption has two sides, the receiver and the giver. According to Myint (2000), both parties to corruption engage in the practice to gain from it and, therefore, both should be accounted for the practice. Corruption is vital barrier to the development of a country. The World Bank has identified it as the main stumbling block to developing countries to their development endeavors. The societal ill is most outspoken in the public...show more content... No society has corruption generic to each member of the society. Corruption in a society is classified into three categories; it may be rare, widespread or systemic. In communities where corruption is rare, there are remarkably few incidences of it, which are usually, extremely difficult to identify. When it is widespread, it means that it occurs in large numbers, in the society, scandals abound in the society, and it is possible to identify the corrupt individuals in the society. If it is systemic, it means that it is inherent, for members of the society to receive certain services have to bribe the officials. Corruption as a cultural tradition does not suits only a few members of the society who practice it. When a government is termed as corrupt, this does not mean that all the officials in the government are corrupt, it is only some unscrupulous officials who are scandalous and painted an image that the government is corrupt and tainted its image. The same applies to culture as a determinant of the level of corruption in a society. When a certain community is termed to have a culture of corruption, such a postulation does not go to the finer details of the society to analyze its individual constituents. When a proper analysis of the mistaken corrupt culture in a society, it

  • 6. Effects Of Corruption On The Society First, corruption is a disease, when a society infected by it, it will collapse. In other words, when corruption spreads, it touches every aspects of the society, and that will lead to create a weak and destroyed one. Having a strong developed country is depending on having a strong developed society, and to achieve this goal we need a society free from corruption. Thus, no country or society can grow and develop with a corruption dilemma. The equation of having strong developed society is good education, good human development, and achieving equality among individuals. Therefore, when corruption effect those factors, the country will face a dark future where no hope of development. In the article of "effects of corruption on society". Mr. Bala (2017) said that examined how corruption effect society. For example, he mention education and what happened if it touched by corruption. He said, in some countries some universities are excepting students just because of his rich parent not because of being a good student or not. According to Mr. Bala some rich parent make a contribution to the university and by this way they make sure that there son will have a seat in a good university, and that's is one image of corruption. Thus, when an educational institution except this kind of behavior it deny a qualified student the right to study in good college just because his parent cannot donate to the university. • 7. How Is Power Corrupt In Macbeth With Power Comes Corruption "All power tends to corrupt and absolute power corrupts absolutely." is a quote from Lord John Dalberg–Acton, explaining that any amount of power can corrupt the mind, but absolute power will take over. This is represented throughout history: in politics, monarchies and times like the french revolution. Many writers have used this theme in their works. One work that includes this theme is William Shakespeare's Macbeth. The play Macbeth follows Macbeth, a brave warrior as he gains power from his deeds both good and bad. By killing the Duncan, the former king, Macbeth rises to power and takes control of his country. With every bit of power that the Macbeth's gain, they become more and more corrupt. Simply...show more content... Despite their knowledge of what's wrong and right they go along with their plans anyways because of their driving force of corruption and greed. Although Macbeth commits the murder, Lady Macbeth shows that she has just as many dark and corrupt thoughts as him. The one who comes up with the murder plan is Lady Macbeth, directly after she learns about the prophecy. After Macbeth informs her of the king's overnight stay, Lady Macbeth's first words are "O, never/ Shall sun that morrow see!" (1. 5. 67–68) as her plan to kill the king is already being put into motion. If Lady Macbeth had not made the plans Macbeth may not have gone through with the murder. Lady macbeth becomes a driving, manipulative force to Macbeth. She justifies why killing Duncan is good and shames him into committing horrible deeds. When Macbeth tries to refuse she says "When you durst do it, then you were a man;/ And, to be more than what you were, you would/ Be so much more the man." (1. 7. 54–56), challenging his masculinity. In the end, Lady Macbeth isn't the only one who's mind becomes corrupted, she drags Macbeth down with her. Finally, Lady Macbeth pretends that the guilt doesn't really bother her, she simply tells her husband that he is weak. She tries hide her corruption through lies and by putting Macbeth down, but in the end she falters, realises her guilt and drives herself insane. • 8. Essay on Government Corruption Over the last few years, the issue of corruption––the abuse of public office for private gain––has attracted renewed interest, both among academics and policymakers. There are a number of reasons why this topic has come under recent inspection. Corruption scandals have toppled governments in both major industrial countries and developing countries. In the transition countries, the shift from command economies to free market economies has created massive opportunities for the appropriation of rents, excessive profits, and has often been accompanied by a change from a well–organized system of corruption to a more chaotic and deleterious one. With the end of the cold war, donor countries have placed less...show more content... Since the ultimate source of rent–seeking behavior is the availability of rents, corruption is likely to occur where restrictions and government intervention lead to the presence of such excessive profits. Examples include trade restrictions such as tariffs and import quotas, industrial policies such as subsidies and tax deductions, price controls, multiple exchange rate practices and foreign exchange allocation schemes, and government–controlled provision of credit. Some rents may arise in the absence of government intervention, as in the case of natural resources, such as oil, whose supply is limited by nature and whose extraction cost is far lower than its market price. Since abnormal profits are available to those who extract oil, officials who allocate extraction rights are likely to be offered bribes. Finally, one would expect that corruption is more likely to take place when civil servants are paid very low wages and often must resort to collecting bribes in order to feed their families. While all of the hypotheses described above are empirically testable, in the sense that data are available for that purpose, only a few have actually been tested. What empirical studies have been done support certain hypotheses: namely, that there is less corruption where there are fewer trade restrictions; where governments do not engage in favoritist industrial policies; and perhaps where Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Corruption of Government Essay The unlawful use of a person's position while in power leads to multiple problems with today's government. The corrupt methods politicians use are ideas that are strictly in place for personal gain. Present throughout history and still prevalent within today's world, government corruption has consisted of a number of negative issues including bribery, economic and social impacts, and the misuse of power. Government's role within daily life has been shown to have negative effects as seen in many aspects of life as well as in literature. Bribery can be defined as when one is offered money or some other incentive with the intention to corrupt a person's actions.В¬ Bribery is the main component, if not the basis, of government corruption....show more content... If anyone in Equality's society were to disobey the Council, they would be punished. "We have seen one of such men burned alive in the square of the City. And it was a sight which has stayed with us through the years, and it haunts us, and follows us, and it gives us no rest. We were a child then, ten years old. And we stood in the great square with all the children and all the men of the City, sent to behold the burning. They brought the Transgressor out into the square and they led them to the pyre. They had torn out the tongue of the Transgressor, so that they could speak no longer" (Rand 50). The Council had shown the community the burning of the Transgressor as a threatening bribe so that the community would know not to disobey The Council, because if they did they would be punished. The threat of punishment was an indirect form of bribery placed by that society's government on its daily life. Bribery is one of the negative side effects that result from the corruption of government actions. There are also economic effects that result from government corruption. These economic effects coincided with bribery. People who work for companies that are at risk of being shut down for health or other reasons will pay any amount to make their problems go away. In Mexico, food store owners such as Jose Luis Garcia will pay anywhere from $50–$100 to have inspectors turn the other way (Archibold). Many scholars have identified corruption as the new enemy of democratization, blaming it for limiting political and socio–economic development of most developing nations (Bardhan P.,1997; Seligson M., 2002, Canache D. and Allison M., 2005). Although no one can really measure "corruption" due to its discrete nature and the different discourses defining it, citizen's perception of corruption can give us an idea of its direction. C. E. Chang and Chu Y 2006; Johnston M. 1983). These works, nonetheless, show no clear differentiation between tolerance and acceptance. For the purpose of this literature review, however, public tolerance of corruption will solely refer to the civil society's judgment of endurance of corruption as illegitimate. The argument explored in this literature is that the origins of public tolerance of corruption in Latin American can be linked to regime change oscillations in their recent political history. These fluctuations in their political transition processes had important effects on how citizens defined their relationship with democratic institutions, and ultimately with the institutional channels and paths that allow them to hold their leaders /public officials accountable for their actions. Finally, consideration is given to other potential socio–economic factors that might help perpetuate the status quo of public tolerance of corruption. There exists a great scholarly consensus about the factors leading to the building of strong democratic accountability institutions. Many scholars agree that the active participation of civic groups, political rights, collective interest and strong associations to democratic institutions are essential factors to triggering accountability demands (Johnston M., 2005; O'Donnell 1994 & 1999; Canache D., and Allison 2005; Acemoglu D. and Robinson J. 2001, Mueller, 1990; Rose–Acherman 1999). I argued that for any fight against corruption to be successful in Africa. Here are some of the steps should be taken to curb corruption in Africa. Firstly, watch–dog agencies should be established like Economic and financial crime commission in Nigeria. There were being established to receive and inspect complaints made by individuals against abuses acts of public officials. Secondly, the government should require all chief executive or local officials should sign a statement granting permission to banks i.e. both local and overseas, real estate or property line to verify any assets they may think. Breaking this layer of privacy is necessary if attribute declarations are to be confirmed and accountability enforced. • 12. Persuasive Essay On Corruption In Society Humanity would not be improved if all were to strive towards utter perfection. When we try hard to be perfect, an unattainable goal, we are bound to fail. Therefore, this inevitable "failure" shall lead to frustration and anger at ourselves though we have done nothing wrong. Should society not be taunted by this impossible goal, society as a whole will be happier and live fulfilled lives. Whereas if everyone were to be reaching for perfection, everyone's lives would be the exact opposite. The core of our society would be filled with more stress–more than what already exists at least– as well as less contemptment with our actions. These negative emotions would result in the implementation of bad means as a result of hopelessness. People will be lead to believe that after failing so many times, the only thing left to do in order to be perfect is to not play by the rules, because when they did, it didn't work. According to mid–twentieth century sociologist Robert Merton, "The moral mandate to achieve success thus exerts pressures to succeed, by fair means if possible and by foul means if necessary"(Robert Merton in Allenby 17). This leads to not only corruption of the individual, but corruption in society as a whole. This is due to the intense level of competition in society that is due to everyone feeling as if they must be the best and outdo those that surround them. These high levels of competition and little room for success leads to stress, depression, and people resulting to loopholes to make their way up to the top. Not only that, but even at a young age, children are being pressured to be the best. Christopher Bergland, ultra–endurance athlete, writer, and psychologist, additionally addressed cheating in his Psychology Today column (2012) when he stated, "We live in such a competitive world. From a very young age our children are taught that if they want to 'succeed' in life that they have to finish in the top percentile in just about every challenge they face. But not everyone can be a champion."(Begland 6). Therefore, not only are adults affected by the pressures of competition, but children are too. If the stress piles up at an early age, then so do the bad habits which will all carry on into their Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 14. Argumentative Essay On Power And Corruption Power and corruption are concepts that are difficult to fully understand. Several controversies occur within these topics. There are both conventional and unconventional ways of viewing power. In an attempt to make a claim contrary to common belief, David Brin stated, "It is said that power corrupts, but actually it's more true that power attracts the corruptible." This statement is not accurate because power is the corrupting device responsible for a plethora of downfalls leaders have experienced. Downfalls from power occur when there is an imbalance between the two souls present in the body. Every human has two conflicting souls that serve as consciences to guide one's actions: the animal soul and the godly soul. The former acts as a means of acquiring the necessities of life, acting in the best interest of oneself. The latter focuses on doing what is morally right, aiming to help others. Often, the animal soul is associated with evil. Though everyone has both souls, some may have one soul dominant over the other, leading them to have more attributes associated with that specific soul. For example, greed and corruption are prevalent among people with excessive power. When viewing the behavior of those in authoritative positions, one may notice that, "Their animal soul has become so dominant over time that it becomes the norm" (Anchor Text). Their need for success has become equivalent to an animal's desire for food and life. People without power also have animal souls as Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Corruption And Its Effects On Society Corruption is globally regarded to be one of the most immoral and ethically wrong practices in the political realm. There is a reason as to why corruption has such a strong negative connotation associated with it, as impacts caused by its direct and indirect effects on society cause massive consequences. The very nature of corruption undermines almost all processes and goals set fourth by a liberal democracy, while causing high distrust and low public approval between officials and citizens. The study of corruption is nothing new; it has been the center of substantial analysis and research for decades. Surveying citizens and asking their perception of the level of corruption in their country mainly carried out early studies on corruption. Later, more direct ways of gathering data emerged with the use of undercover agents that allowed researchers to interpret more reliable data that ultimately gave them better results. Many people living in the developed or modernized world, such as North America or Europe, live under the rule of liberal democracies and are unaware of the extent of corruption that exists around the world. Many citizens living in developing countries face levels of corruption much higher than those found in democratically consolidated and developed states; as the societal environment found in developing states fosters the proper setting for corruption to take place. Corruption is extremely prevalent in a majority of nations around the world, making it Get more content on HelpWriting.net

However, the actions of his African American overseer Lieutenant Dixon, to whom Hanson consulted about his request, were disturbing. While the numbers have increased over the years, the statistics and demographics of the number of black officers on the Los Angeles Police Department, LAPD, and other such precincts have not been many in comparison to the number of white law officers (Hutchinson, Earl Ofari). Officer Ryan makes a statement about how his father hired and worked alongside black people in a time when it was almost unheard of for a white man to do such an act (Crash). • 18. Reaction Paper On Corruption The topic of corruption is attracting much attention for politicians, accountants, economists and people in large (Maunuken, R., 1988).The term "corruption' covers a great variety of sins (Hager, L. Michael, 1973). Corrupt means to abuse or destroy www.Dictionary.reference.com. Corruption is the sale of government property for personal gain by government officials (Ramos, M., 2003). According to Ramos, M., (2003)corruption is also use of official position, rank or status by an office bearer for his own personal benefit. Corruption involves behavior which deviates from the normal duties of a public role; pecuniary or status gain; or violates rules against the exercise of certain types of private–regarding influence (U Myint, 2000). The behavior of corruption includes sins such as bribery; extortion; fraud; embezzlement; nepotism; cronyism; appropriation of public assets and property for personal use (Joseph Nye, 1967). Corruption is becoming more common and reaching higher levels in today's settings and can be attributed to diminish state and societal capacity, lawlessness and violence, and short–term horizons generated by political instability (SYNAPSE UNDP, 2019). People are engaging in corruption as a result of the expectation of a personal gain (be it monetary or otherwise), when they are granted power by society to perform certain public duties. Damage the public interest and the biggest loser from corruption is society as a whole (Friedrich, C.J.,1990). A civil Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 19. Argumentative Essay On Political Corruption Power tends to make people corrupt, and the more power a person has the more corrupt they tend to become. Political corruption is when people from the government use their power for their own benefit, and the corrupt individual can suffer negative consequences, such as jail time. Corruption is a topic that not a lot of people seem to be interested in or want to discuss. Corruption in governments has been a problem for thousands of years, and it negatively affects our society. It negatively affects society because it destabilizes society and endangers our ethical values and justice. Corruption makes our government weak, and it makes people suffer by government officials being able to take advantage of the public resources that are available to us. Corruption is wrong and needs to be dealt with, and the best way to do that is by passing anti–corruption laws and finding solutions that can completely destroy corruption. Political corruption is an illegal act that occurs when members of the government use their power for personal use, it's wrong because the root of corruption is money and people only want to be selfish and get more money. The author states that, "politicians are able to use their money and power to make what they want happen, but they are also able to look the other way when they are offered a great sum of money." (Heidenheimer). Politicians are corrupt because they use their money and power to get what they want, but people can also offer them money so that they can do what the other person wants them to do. For that reason, "politicians use bribery to fix the problems that they sometimes have because it is the only option that they have or it's the easier option." (Rose–Ackerman). Politicians do use their money and personal power to fix their own problems because that may be the only thing they can do or they just want to do things the easier way and pay someone off. Another thing that the author states is, "It's an injustice for people while politicians get more power and money based on the wrong decisions that they make. They use public resource as their own resources and take advantage of it." (We are all affected). Government officials are able to use our resources for their own personal Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 20. Essay on The Corruption of Media The Corruption of Media I came up with a problem that concerns many parents. It seems as though violence plays a role in the lives of many people. Even innocent children are affected by the negative things that go on in the huge world we live in. Television violence is often overlooked because of its ability to retain children's attention. Countless mothers and fathers put their children in front of the television so they can have time to themselves. As a result, the kids are subjected to unnecessary media violence. I feel as thought this violence has a great effect on the children's lives. The impact of television violence on youth behavior has been an issue for many years. Not only is the amount of television being viewed an issue but the content and the lack of parental overview also play an extreme role. In a year, the average child spends 900 hours in school and nearly 1,023 hours in front of a TV. According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), kids in the United States watch about 4 hours of TV a day– even though the AAP guidelines say children older than 2 should watch no more than 1 to 2 hours a day of quality programming. (Kids Health). What is even more astonishing that it is estimated that they will have witnessed 8,000 murders and more than 100,000 acts of violence by the time they leave elementary school. As technology improves and the amount of violent entertainment increases, images becoming more graphic and results in a more realistic portray of violence. Television viewing affects children of different ages in different ways. While children may spend many hours in front of a television set at an early age, the programming has little effect. At the age of two a child will imitate the actions of the live model, example a parent more than a model on television. However by the age of three the child will begin to imitate the TV. characters. The attitudes toward television drastically change over a child's life. When researching the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
