Higher Education in the 21st Century Essays
Chomnapas C. (Amp)
Outline some of the main issues facing higher education in the 21st century. To what extent is higher education an effective means of both obtaining
employment and learning the basic prerequisite skills for global workplace?
Since educational level has been essential in global society, there is an increase of higher education's demands in labour markets. These are affecting
both new graduates and existing workers who are looking for jobs. In addition, various companies today require a lot of skilled people to work in their
companies. Interestingly, the unemployment situation is still occurring, even though the high educational requirement in the global work place is
high. This essay highlights three main problems....show more content...
A further problem is the number of graduates is exceeding which do not match with the quantity of position in labour market. This situation leads to
unemployed effects. As Li et al (2008) argued, the number of new graduated people with highereducation qualifications expanded dramatically but
the number of position in the labour market is not enough for them and would face unemployment. However, the consequences are not only affect
higher education graduates but also affect lower education graduates and current workers who need to find new jobs. If the numbers of positions
are not enough for higher education people, then it also not enough for someone who has a secondary school diploma or lower. When we compare
the opportunity to get job between higher and lower educated graduates, it can be seen that chance for people without tertiary level qualifications will
be less than higher educated graduates and they will be unemployed. In case of the current workers who need to find a new job are also affected by
this situation. It can be concluded that the higher level in education is not an assurance for people to get a job.
Lastly, the purpose of higher education is unclear. The attitudes of students are changing; they are less interested in higher education and skills, which
are provided by the universities. Evidence of this is many

Purpose of Higher Education Essay
People in the past did not stress value of receiving a higher education because it was not as indispensable as it is today. Now, people perceive others
not only by their appearances, but by their accomplishments. Employers always hire people with the most education and experience. The majority of
students are concerned about getting a higher education throughout the years. Nevertheless, some people question the purposes of getting educated, and
consider it meaningless. The concept of education has a significant meaning. It enables one to take control of knowledge and apply it. It is education
what prepares the mind to comprehend and learn important ideas. Ahigher education is very important for an individual's success in...show more

College students get to analyze other subjects that they may have not shown an interest in before; that will help them construct their career. Getting the
necessary skills students need, will assure their success on anything they choose to do. "It is the education which gives a man a clear conscious view of
his own opinions and judgments, a truth in developing them, and a force in urging them" (Newman, 54). Education gives students a better
understanding their own opinions, and judgments; it creates anxiousness in developing them, a fluency in expressing them, and a power in urging them.
The economy will grow if the necessity of getting a higher education is reinforced. Education is the foundation of a country's economic growth and
the key to rid a nation of poverty. To illustrate, Japan is a country with no resources, but since it has a good educational system; Japan has the second
richest economy worldwide. On the other hand, Nigeria is a country that is rich in resources, but low in education; as a result, the majority of people
there are poor. A higher education creates a quality workforce,; besides it will promote economic stability by growing and training students for success.
Such training will capacitate hard working people, which will do well to The United States economy. The government should invest more of its money
on helping those students that cannot afford college. It will capacitate people who will

Higher Education Essay
Higher Education Education is one of the key ingredients to building a strong foundation for a successful future; there is not enough emphasis put on
education at a young age. Another question arises though, how hard should we push our children? They are children after all. On the other hand an
absence of interaction between student and teacher may cause our children to grow up to become mindless drones. There needs to be a student–teacher
relationship, not a dictatorship. Students are not just vessels to be filled with knowledge; they are alive, and must be allowed to grow on their own.
Without interaction and life experiences, the materials that are taught is stored, but not understood. We would do without thinking, feeling, and...show

No one way is more correct than another. If life was an equation we could solve, then we, as a race, would never survive, people would not be able
to adapt, and we would be unable to make further progress. It is not ones ability to recall what has been taught it is there ability to teach it to others. It
is those people who know how to use the knowledge bestowed on them that will survive. In Dewey's "Thinking in Education" he speaks a lot of
knowledge; he states that "knowledgeВ… [is] indispensable(305)." Dewey puts a large emphasis on how knowledge is gained through experience
and not through reading textbooks alone. Experience alone is a slow teacher, though in order to gain knowledge one must have the proper
foundation. That foundation starts with a proper education. Studying the past, learning from it, and being able to use it. Newton did not just sit
under an apple tree and get hit by an apple to discover gravity. He used what he learned from proper schooling as a foundation. If he did not have
proper schooling, Sir Isaac Newton most likely would have just been irritated for having just been hit in the head with an apple. Not that Dewey is
wrong though, one must have real world applications for what they have learned. If you are able to apply what you have learned in a real life situation,
then you are being taught properly. "No amount of improvement in the personal technique of the instructor will wholly remedy the state of things
(303)." A teacher

Persuasive Essay On Higher Education
Higher education is the greatest tool that can benefit a society, granted that universities can bring a sense of personal accomplishment and general
knowledge. It is the Federal government's job to reflect on other educational systems, for instance Germany's higher education, and create an intuition
that profits the public good and establishes a structured strategy that ensures college students are economically viable. For example, the University of
California exploded when the Board of Regents approved a "32 percent tuition increases for the 2010 academic year, a vote that would raise the UC
tuition to over $10,000 a year" (Selingo). Higher education should not be a risky future investment; it should be designed to help the general public and
now obtaining a four–year diploma has become an essential way a person displays their preparedness for high demanding jobs. In addition, diplomas
have become less available to the public due to the economic downturn, defunding of the public education systems, and increasing tuition rates. It is
time to create a strategy that assists the public education system and that serves the common well–being. Therefore, it is the federal government's duty
to reflect on Germany's educational methods that favor the public good and promote a change in the broken institutions by allowing free online
universities and community colleges to offer four–year degrees.
As a result of the recession in 2008, states have reduced public funding for

Emerging Issues in Higher Education
Introduction
It is important to note that the right to access higher education is a fundamental aspect embraced in a number of international human rights.
Concerning the economic covenant of 1996 on the Social and Cultural Rights of the UN International; the declaration in article 13 states, higher
learning deserves equal accessibility to all, in full capacity and means by introducing free education. There are important facts that work effectively with
higher education. After completion of high school or secondary school, there are necessary entry requirements that validate an individuals' acceptance in
any higher institution of learning. This means that minimal requirements as a measure exist to ensure quality in higher institutions of learning
(Davidovitch, 2011).
Higher education involves acquiring knowledge, acquisition and skill and applying this in a practical sense. This can be explained further through
teaching, research and exacting applied work (for example in dental and medical schools), and social services activities of higher education of
learning. The arena of teaching also involves undergraduate level, beyond that, graduate or postgraduate level). The latter form of education is the
graduate school. Higher education hence becomes vital to economies of nations both as a relevant industry and as a source of skilled and learned
people for the rest of the financial system. While looking at higher education it is necessary to

As the Hispanic population in the United States grew over the last ten years, colleges experienced increased enrollments of the same. As with any
significant enrollment increase, colleges attempted to find ways to increase student retention rates, especially that of minorities. Mercy College is one
institution that experienced significant growth in their Hispanic student enrollment, along with it success in retaining this group of students (Stern,
2010). In part, their success was credited to the following:
A combination of factors, including training faculty to be sensitive to the needs of minority students, creating financial aid packages that limit the size

Is The Objective Of Higher Education? Essay
What is the objective of higher education? It is to serve as a catalyst of higher existence that must be available to all, it should not only create people
that can take advantage of lucrative positions, but people that have proficient life training. In our contemporary period, higher education has been
construed to focus on specific careers by dismissing "non–relevant" information. Magdalena Kay framed this negative concept of relevance and other
complications such as the gradual commercialization of courses, In her piece "The New Course". Additionally, although not well represented in "The
New Course" high tuitions costs are another failure of higher institutions and should be free with public support. These institutions of higher learning
have failed to uphold the purpose of higher education and so have demonstrated that for most college is not worth it. Education used as an instrument for
achieving higher actuality, has faded. Now the relevance of information has come into query. It is becoming a common belief that students should only
attain knowledge that is directly related to their future career. The question of relevance itself is a awry concept "history marches on, and these issues
change from year to year, or even month to month. Hence, the built–in obsolescence of relevance itself."(Kay). Additionaly. It encourages a society of
specialized persons that contribute to humanity in only one way and can create people that lack life training. This deficiency in life

The Benefits of Higher Education Essay
Higher education in the United States arose as an answer to the need to train clergy for the seminary. Throughout the centuries, higher education has
evolved to become one of the principal means in educating individuals in specific areas of study. Individuals seek higher education to become more
proficient in a particular occupation, area of study, or as a requisite for employment or advancement in specific fields such as engineering, management,
or the sciences. The benefits that individuals who attend institutions of higher learning realize are more than education; the benefits are numerous and
consist of socioeconomic benefits as well as personal benefits for the scholar, including income benefits, employment advantages as well as...show more

These benefits affect local institutions that depend on volunteers to operate such as food and homeless shelters, Habitat for Humanity, local Boy's and
Girl's Clubs, as well as various other charities who rely on volunteers. Moreover, the more individuals who vote influence the overall government and
its policies, supporting the ideology of our founding fathers. Government is a reflection of the will of a greater number of citizens, and individuals with
more education vote more often than less educated persons, therefore, educating society as a whole improves a democratic form of government.
In addition to the above–mentioned social benefits, one may also note that higher education also contributes to the creation, development, and operation
of public institutions. While discussing non–market private and social benefits of higher education, Walter W. McMahon, in his report "Advancing
Higher Education," states, "...they likely contribute more than proportionately to the development of civic institutions, democratic institutions, and rule
of law. These benefits in turn set the stage for substantial economic growth" (McMahon, Advancing). He goes on to state, "Civil institutions are built,
new ideas are generated, and environmental conditions are put in place such as lower state crime, welfare, health and incarceration costs that

Reflection Of Higher Education
An intersectional reflection of my dichotomous relationship with higher education is what fuels my desire to pursue a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership
and Policy Analysis. As a first–generation college student, earning a Bachelor's and Master's degrees profoundly altered the trajectory of my family
out of years of generational poverty. As a result of embracing highereducation, I possess the ability to think critically and creatively, with a passion
and hunger for lifelong learning. Contrarily, the experience also left some biological, psychological, and social scarring. Macroaggressions, tokenism,
and implicit bias have all contributed to the way that I now live, learn, and work in the world. While these experiences did not prevent the completion
of my education, it has led others to abandon the pursuit, and certainly presents an enigma to many colleges and universities around the country eager
to recruit and retain scholars that identify as Black/African–American, first–generation, and/or low socioeconomic status. The majority of my
professional experience revolves around this very conundrum and the time has now come to pursue extensive and original research in this chosen field.
My work in student affairs provides significant opportunity to contemplate, implement and assess initiatives related to student success and retention.
My current research is connected to peer education and the 1st year experience and I have active and growing experience in the needs assessment and

Essay about Higher Education
Higher education is optional, but to enter a respectable career, one must continue their education in order to achieve his financial and/or personal goals.
Teenagers who attend college use their extended schooling to further obtain knowledge. The primary objective of higher education is to enhance one's
abilities for his future. A student can learn from school in numerous ways, but liberal education is not a way to attract students into further and higher
education. However, students can learn a lot more through experiences that have affected their personal lives. I agree with author Mike Rose's theory
that education needs are reached to obtain a higher academic level by teaching students information that can be related to their personal...show more

However, he has not thought about the students who want to attend college and quickly earn their degree so they can start their careers.
I disagree with Bloom because he encourages the idea of taking extra irrelevant classes to achieve the experience of education. It usually takes about
four years to earn a bachelors degree. There are many courses such as English, math, history, art, etc. that a student must go through before they get to
start on the classes that concentrate on their intended major. These basic courses are part of a program called general education. After completing
general education (which usually takes about two years), the students can then begin to study for their degree. Colleges should abandon the law of
students having to take general education courses because the courses are irrelevant to their field of study, unnecessary and a waste of time. Instead of
taking the extra courses, students can simply meet their needs of a degree in a shorter period of time. Also, Bloom not only that wants students to take
general education courses, he wants them to further their education by taking advanced irrelevant courses. Therefore, in their future, they would have
numerous opportunities for a better career. Because if a job is not right for the student, he would have other choices to obtain a new job.
Rose feels students should not learn from the canon books style. Students have an easier time learning when they relate to the

Is Higher Education Necessary?
It has always been said that college is the next step to a bigger future after high school. So many people look forward to the fun, the new
experiences, the new people, and the new life. College is sometimes a getaway for that bullied student or a safe haven for that scientific nerd, but
where do these people end up after college? A college education is not a decision for everyone, as several students graduate with a huge amount of
student debt and qualified job opportunities. Do they even complete it? Secondary institutions are a great way for high school graduates or even adult
learners to get a head start on a successful path that leads to a non–stressful lifestyle, but the struggles and financial conflicts of applying and attending

However, after gaining a college degree, a person might be left with good work benefits, great interpersonal skills, and great friends, but he/she are
also prone to be left in debt. In fact, in 2013, there were 19.9 million U.S. college students, and the average student debt was over $26,000. Life after
graduating college will not help pay off the debt of student loans. Besides, some people acquire a degree and do not even put it to use. What is the
point in that?
Hard Work, No Benefit During November 2013 approximately one–third of college educated American workers age 35 and older are have never
worked within their degree major. This simple fact goes to show that not all things are necessary. Although in this day of time, most jobs requirehigher
education, there are still several occupations that could possibly supply more pay to a non–graduate that a graduate. This situational happening is rare,
but it just might be worth the try for a debt free life. questioning the equivalent of a college education today, which years ago gave an impression a
good investment and confidence, could be very enlightened. Therefore, people uncertainty and inquiring can be the fundamental to transformation.
Researchers stated, "48 percent of baccalaureate degree holders are not employed in jobs that require the degree." (Rose, 2013) Even though bachelor
's degree superior is very much high and likely pay in jobs not requiring the degree is comparably low.

Introduction:
Since the inception of higher education acts, the goal of the federal government has been to increase access to students who may not have otherwise
been able to attend. For Financial Aid Administrators, it is not enough to simply get low–income students through the college doors of higher education,
but ensuring that students are successfully persisting and progressing to the completion of their college degree. Previous studies support a connection

Focusing on this university as opposed to other state schools was preferable due to a large number of students and the diversity of the student population
as compared to other state schools within the state. Additionally, this University has 3 campuses (one in the southern part of the state, one in the central
part and one in the northern part) thus providing a representative sample of the state with regard to characteristics including socioeconomic status, race,
and gender.
This study utilized secondary data analysis. The data was extracted from the larger data set through the University's Department of Institutional
Research (IR). The role of this department is to collect, analyze and report on data for institutional planning, policy development and represents the
university as an arm which disseminates public information services, in order to meet the needs of the university community and external stakeholders.
For the purpose of this paper, the data was then organized and statistics were calculated based on the identified independent and dependent variables.
The sample consisted of a fall 2012 cohort, totaling #______ students, entering as a first time, full–time freshman. The selection looks at the dependent

other socioeconomic populations. This paper does not

Essay on Value of Higher Education
As a child one may be encouraged to read by the idea that reading opens your mind up to new worlds. Such can be the same with a higher education.
Education is a way to develop mentally and morally. Often we think about the financial benefit of a college degree. But what about things obtained
that do not have a monetary value? There are things that we gain through the experience of college that otherwise, we may not. When you decide to
attend college, you often have an idea of a field of study that you would like to follow. This is something that you have been exposed to but not have

your children. Your education will help to build a foundation for not only your children, but for your grandchildren and future generations. It has been
said that children whose parents attended a post–secondary institution will be more likely to attend one for themself. Also, research has shown that a
child of a university or college educated parent will perform better academically then a child whose parent did not attend any sort of institution.
Post–secondary education also helps to build meaningful foundations of skills and values for your children to use in their lives.

The Causes And Effects Of Higher Education
The causes and effects of higher levels of education are very beneficial for one's future. Higher education allows one to be more developed and
prepared for the workforce that entails a more enjoyable life than less educated people. In the United States, educated people are 79% more likely to
be chosen for a job over a less educated applicant (DePrince). Education allows one to gain many characteristics that are looked for throughout the
working world. Success, emotional stability, personal connections, empowerment and personal responsibility are all effects of being highly educated.
As a result of these effects of being educated, one's life tends to be happier and more enjoyable than the life of a less educated individual. Education
enables people to be more successful and gives them the upper–hand when it comes to being able to coax through life as an adult. Being highly
educated can cause someone's income to be many tens–of–thousands of dollars higher. In a study done on high school graduates and college graduates
with a bachelor's degree, the results determined that college graduates attain approximately $64,500 annually while those with a high school diploma
earn $41,000 (Karageorge). With higher education, better job opportunities appear due to college teaching many versatile characteristics that
companies look for. These job opportunities lead to higher salaries and better health benefits covered by the companies than people that are not
qualified for these jobs. When people have a high income, they are more financially stable and tend to make ends meet easier. Many people stress
over paying bills, paying off debt and being able to do what they want to be happy. When more money is applied to this situation these issue and
worries diminish and happiness increases due to the lack of stress over every day problems. Once all the bills are paid people are left with nothing
but free time. With this free time and extra money one could do as they want to have fun such as, going on a vacation or buying a new toy like a
motorcycle to make them happy. Money is always the ultimate variable in life, due to the world revolving around it. Without success, there would not
be as much money, and without as much money

High Education And Higher Education Essay
Education, specifically higher education, allows individuals in society to progress and move forward in societal stratifications. To specify, higher
education is considered one of the main facets of exhibiting a high socioeconomic status. Therefore, to achieve a certain level in higher education is to
progress in society as one of the elites. Although many perceive college and higher education solely through the lens of societal progression, these same
people do not take in consideration the facets that are set in order to do such an act. With this in mind, the elements present in higher education,
specifically at Lehigh University, are ones that heavily affect the student's progress and success.
In education, there remains the dynamic dichotomy between "structure" and "agency". To have "structure" in a social institution is to establish the
practices that limits one's freewill on decisions, whereas to have "agency" is to provide one the ability to make decisions without the hindrance of
outside factors. This dichotomy is prevalent throughout higher education, as the decisions made by the student is hindered by the structure of the
institution while elevated by the freedom and agency found in this setting. The interactions between "structure" and "agency" in higher education is
best expressed through the analysis of classroom culture. Classroom culture, although vague in concept, ultimately is the behaviors, attitudes, and
practices of students inside and outside of the

Why Pursue Higher Education
What has motivated you to pursue higher education?
As a woman from a very long line of passionate learners, it is only right for me to continue the tradition. On my mother's side of the family, a majority

Why Is Higher Education Be An Argumentative Essay
Higher education is an interesting topic for an argumentative essay. There are a lot of advantages, but also and a lot of disadvantages whether
higher education should be free or not. Some of the issues that I will expand on their description are: financial aid, political will, right not a privilege,
more opportunities for a good job, less quality and less inspiration and etc. In my opinion there are a lot of good things if the higher education is free.
First of all, I would like to say that we are not a very wealthy country with a good economy, and the people who live here, do not have much money.
So the children in our country, do not have equal rights for going and learning on some of the universities. Why is this so? The answer is very simple,
they live in a poverty and do not have even a little chance to pursue a career which is connected with the university. After finishing the obligatory

The teachers will not be so inspired to teach the students, and it will have a very bad quality of the education process. The universities will not
give much quality, but quantity. So, it is a bad thing to offer free education to everyone, especially it is bad for the government, because they will
loose a lot of money which they receive from the student taxes. This problem needs a serious research and people who are responsible for the field
to find a very good solution. In a conlusion, I can say that there should be a special treatment on this problem. Maybe the higher education should not
be free, but the government should make some other benefits in order to stimulate the students from the rural areas and those from the poor families
to have a chance to take a higher education degree. All in all, it should be made some kind of a compromise in order the both sides to be happy, the
students and the government. The time will show, if anything will be done on the

Higher Education In The 21St Century Essays

  • 1. Higher Education in the 21st Century Essays Chomnapas C. (Amp) Outline some of the main issues facing higher education in the 21st century. To what extent is higher education an effective means of both obtaining employment and learning the basic prerequisite skills for global workplace? Since educational level has been essential in global society, there is an increase of higher education's demands in labour markets. These are affecting both new graduates and existing workers who are looking for jobs. In addition, various companies today require a lot of skilled people to work in their companies. Interestingly, the unemployment situation is still occurring, even though the high educational requirement in the global work place is high. This essay highlights three main problems....show more content... A further problem is the number of graduates is exceeding which do not match with the quantity of position in labour market. This situation leads to unemployed effects. As Li et al (2008) argued, the number of new graduated people with highereducation qualifications expanded dramatically but the number of position in the labour market is not enough for them and would face unemployment. However, the consequences are not only affect higher education graduates but also affect lower education graduates and current workers who need to find new jobs. If the numbers of positions are not enough for higher education people, then it also not enough for someone who has a secondary school diploma or lower. When we compare the opportunity to get job between higher and lower educated graduates, it can be seen that chance for people without tertiary level qualifications will be less than higher educated graduates and they will be unemployed. In case of the current workers who need to find a new job are also affected by this situation. It can be concluded that the higher level in education is not an assurance for people to get a job. Lastly, the purpose of higher education is unclear. The attitudes of students are changing; they are less interested in higher education and skills, which are provided by the universities. Evidence of this is many Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. Purpose of Higher Education Essay People in the past did not stress value of receiving a higher education because it was not as indispensable as it is today. Now, people perceive others not only by their appearances, but by their accomplishments. Employers always hire people with the most education and experience. The majority of students are concerned about getting a higher education throughout the years. Nevertheless, some people question the purposes of getting educated, and consider it meaningless. The concept of education has a significant meaning. It enables one to take control of knowledge and apply it. It is education what prepares the mind to comprehend and learn important ideas. Ahigher education is very important for an individual's success in...show more content... College students get to analyze other subjects that they may have not shown an interest in before; that will help them construct their career. Getting the necessary skills students need, will assure their success on anything they choose to do. "It is the education which gives a man a clear conscious view of his own opinions and judgments, a truth in developing them, and a force in urging them" (Newman, 54). Education gives students a better understanding their own opinions, and judgments; it creates anxiousness in developing them, a fluency in expressing them, and a power in urging them. The economy will grow if the necessity of getting a higher education is reinforced. Education is the foundation of a country's economic growth and the key to rid a nation of poverty. To illustrate, Japan is a country with no resources, but since it has a good educational system; Japan has the second richest economy worldwide. On the other hand, Nigeria is a country that is rich in resources, but low in education; as a result, the majority of people there are poor. A higher education creates a quality workforce,; besides it will promote economic stability by growing and training students for success. Such training will capacitate hard working people, which will do well to The United States economy. The government should invest more of its money on helping those students that cannot afford college. It will capacitate people who will Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Higher Education Essay Higher Education Education is one of the key ingredients to building a strong foundation for a successful future; there is not enough emphasis put on education at a young age. Another question arises though, how hard should we push our children? They are children after all. On the other hand an absence of interaction between student and teacher may cause our children to grow up to become mindless drones. There needs to be a student–teacher relationship, not a dictatorship. Students are not just vessels to be filled with knowledge; they are alive, and must be allowed to grow on their own. Without interaction and life experiences, the materials that are taught is stored, but not understood. We would do without thinking, feeling, and...show more content... No one way is more correct than another. If life was an equation we could solve, then we, as a race, would never survive, people would not be able to adapt, and we would be unable to make further progress. It is not ones ability to recall what has been taught it is there ability to teach it to others. It is those people who know how to use the knowledge bestowed on them that will survive. In Dewey's "Thinking in Education" he speaks a lot of knowledge; he states that "knowledgeВ… [is] indispensable(305)." Dewey puts a large emphasis on how knowledge is gained through experience and not through reading textbooks alone. Experience alone is a slow teacher, though in order to gain knowledge one must have the proper foundation. That foundation starts with a proper education. Studying the past, learning from it, and being able to use it. Newton did not just sit under an apple tree and get hit by an apple to discover gravity. He used what he learned from proper schooling as a foundation. If he did not have proper schooling, Sir Isaac Newton most likely would have just been irritated for having just been hit in the head with an apple. Not that Dewey is wrong though, one must have real world applications for what they have learned. If you are able to apply what you have learned in a real life situation, then you are being taught properly. "No amount of improvement in the personal technique of the instructor will wholly remedy the state of things (303)." A teacher Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Persuasive Essay On Higher Education Higher education is the greatest tool that can benefit a society, granted that universities can bring a sense of personal accomplishment and general knowledge. It is the Federal government's job to reflect on other educational systems, for instance Germany's higher education, and create an intuition that profits the public good and establishes a structured strategy that ensures college students are economically viable. For example, the University of California exploded when the Board of Regents approved a "32 percent tuition increases for the 2010 academic year, a vote that would raise the UC tuition to over $10,000 a year" (Selingo). Higher education should not be a risky future investment; it should be designed to help the general public and now obtaining a four–year diploma has become an essential way a person displays their preparedness for high demanding jobs. In addition, diplomas have become less available to the public due to the economic downturn, defunding of the public education systems, and increasing tuition rates. It is time to create a strategy that assists the public education system and that serves the common well–being. Therefore, it is the federal government's duty to reflect on Germany's educational methods that favor the public good and promote a change in the broken institutions by allowing free online universities and community colleges to offer four–year degrees. As a result of the recession in 2008, states have reduced public funding for Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 6. Emerging Issues in Higher Education Emerging Issues in Higher Education Introduction It is important to note that the right to access higher education is a fundamental aspect embraced in a number of international human rights. Concerning the economic covenant of 1996 on the Social and Cultural Rights of the UN International; the declaration in article 13 states, higher learning deserves equal accessibility to all, in full capacity and means by introducing free education. There are important facts that work effectively with higher education. After completion of high school or secondary school, there are necessary entry requirements that validate an individuals' acceptance in any higher institution of learning. This means that minimal requirements as a measure exist to ensure quality in higher institutions of learning (Davidovitch, 2011). Higher education involves acquiring knowledge, acquisition and skill and applying this in a practical sense. This can be explained further through teaching, research and exacting applied work (for example in dental and medical schools), and social services activities of higher education of learning. The arena of teaching also involves undergraduate level, beyond that, graduate or postgraduate level). The latter form of education is the graduate school. As with any significant enrollment increase, colleges attempted to find ways to increase student retention rates, especially that of minorities. Mercy College is one institution that experienced significant growth in their Hispanic student enrollment, along with it success in retaining this group of students (Stern, 2010). • 8. Is The Objective Of Higher Education? Essay What is the objective of higher education? It is to serve as a catalyst of higher existence that must be available to all, it should not only create people that can take advantage of lucrative positions, but people that have proficient life training. In our contemporary period, higher education has been construed to focus on specific careers by dismissing "non–relevant" information. Magdalena Kay framed this negative concept of relevance and other complications such as the gradual commercialization of courses, In her piece "The New Course". Additionally, although not well represented in "The New Course" high tuitions costs are another failure of higher institutions and should be free with public support. These institutions of higher learning have failed to uphold the purpose of higher education and so have demonstrated that for most college is not worth it. Education used as an instrument for achieving higher actuality, has faded. Now the relevance of information has come into query. It is becoming a common belief that students should only attain knowledge that is directly related to their future career. The question of relevance itself is a awry concept "history marches on, and these issues change from year to year, or even month to month. Hence, the built–in obsolescence of relevance itself."(Kay). Additionaly. It encourages a society of specialized persons that contribute to humanity in only one way and can create people that lack life training. • 9. The Benefits of Higher Education Essay Higher education in the United States arose as an answer to the need to train clergy for the seminary. Throughout the centuries, higher education has evolved to become one of the principal means in educating individuals in specific areas of study. Individuals seek higher education to become more proficient in a particular occupation, area of study, or as a requisite for employment or advancement in specific fields such as engineering, management, or the sciences. The benefits that individuals who attend institutions of higher learning realize are more than education; the benefits are numerous and consist of socioeconomic benefits as well as personal benefits for the scholar, including income benefits, employment advantages as well as...show more content... These benefits affect local institutions that depend on volunteers to operate such as food and homeless shelters, Habitat for Humanity, local Boy's and Girl's Clubs, as well as various other charities who rely on volunteers. Moreover, the more individuals who vote influence the overall government and its policies, supporting the ideology of our founding fathers. Government is a reflection of the will of a greater number of citizens, and individuals with more education vote more often than less educated persons, therefore, educating society as a whole improves a democratic form of government. In addition to the above–mentioned social benefits, one may also note that higher education also contributes to the creation, development, and operation of public institutions. While discussing non–market private and social benefits of higher education, Walter W. McMahon, in his report "Advancing Higher Education," states, "...they likely contribute more than proportionately to the development of civic institutions, democratic institutions, and rule of law. These benefits in turn set the stage for substantial economic growth" (McMahon, Advancing). He goes on to state, "Civil institutions are built, new ideas are generated, and environmental conditions are put in place such as lower state crime, welfare, health and incarceration costs that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Reflection Of Higher Education An intersectional reflection of my dichotomous relationship with higher education is what fuels my desire to pursue a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis. As a first–generation college student, earning a Bachelor's and Master's degrees profoundly altered the trajectory of my family out of years of generational poverty. As a result of embracing highereducation, I possess the ability to think critically and creatively, with a passion and hunger for lifelong learning. Contrarily, the experience also left some biological, psychological, and social scarring. Macroaggressions, tokenism, and implicit bias have all contributed to the way that I now live, learn, and work in the world. While these experiences did not prevent the completion of my education, it has led others to abandon the pursuit, and certainly presents an enigma to many colleges and universities around the country eager to recruit and retain scholars that identify as Black/African–American, first–generation, and/or low socioeconomic status. The majority of my professional experience revolves around this very conundrum and the time has now come to pursue extensive and original research in this chosen field. My work in student affairs provides significant opportunity to contemplate, implement and assess initiatives related to student success and retention. My current research is connected to peer education and the 1st year experience and I have active and growing experience in the needs assessment and Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 11. Essay about Higher Education Higher education is optional, but to enter a respectable career, one must continue their education in order to achieve his financial and/or personal goals. Teenagers who attend college use their extended schooling to further obtain knowledge. The primary objective of higher education is to enhance one's abilities for his future. A student can learn from school in numerous ways, but liberal education is not a way to attract students into further and higher education. However, students can learn a lot more through experiences that have affected their personal lives. I agree with author Mike Rose's theory that education needs are reached to obtain a higher academic level by teaching students information that can be related to their personal...show more content... However, he has not thought about the students who want to attend college and quickly earn their degree so they can start their careers. I disagree with Bloom because he encourages the idea of taking extra irrelevant classes to achieve the experience of education. It usually takes about four years to earn a bachelors degree. There are many courses such as English, math, history, art, etc. that a student must go through before they get to start on the classes that concentrate on their intended major. These basic courses are part of a program called general education. After completing general education (which usually takes about two years), the students can then begin to study for their degree. Colleges should abandon the law of students having to take general education courses because the courses are irrelevant to their field of study, unnecessary and a waste of time. Instead of taking the extra courses, students can simply meet their needs of a degree in a shorter period of time. Also, Bloom not only that wants students to take general education courses, he wants them to further their education by taking advanced irrelevant courses. Therefore, in their future, they would have numerous opportunities for a better career. Because if a job is not right for the student, he would have other choices to obtain a new job. Rose feels students should not learn from the canon books style. Students have an easier time learning when they relate to the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 12. Is Higher Education Necessary? It has always been said that college is the next step to a bigger future after high school. So many people look forward to the fun, the new experiences, the new people, and the new life. College is sometimes a getaway for that bullied student or a safe haven for that scientific nerd, but where do these people end up after college? A college education is not a decision for everyone, as several students graduate with a huge amount of student debt and qualified job opportunities. Do they even complete it? Secondary institutions are a great way for high school graduates or even adult learners to get a head start on a successful path that leads to a non–stressful lifestyle, but the struggles and financial conflicts of applying and attending can...show more content... However, after gaining a college degree, a person might be left with good work benefits, great interpersonal skills, and great friends, but he/she are also prone to be left in debt. In fact, in 2013, there were 19.9 million U.S. college students, and the average student debt was over $26,000. Life after graduating college will not help pay off the debt of student loans. Besides, some people acquire a degree and do not even put it to use. What is the point in that? Hard Work, No Benefit During November 2013 approximately one–third of college educated American workers age 35 and older are have never worked within their degree major. This simple fact goes to show that not all things are necessary. Although in this day of time, most jobs requirehigher education, there are still several occupations that could possibly supply more pay to a non–graduate that a graduate. This situational happening is rare, but it just might be worth the try for a debt free life. questioning the equivalent of a college education today, which years ago gave an impression a good investment and confidence, could be very enlightened. Therefore, people uncertainty and inquiring can be the fundamental to transformation. Researchers stated, "48 percent of baccalaureate degree holders are not employed in jobs that require the degree." Essay On Higher Education Design and Methods Introduction: Since the inception of higher education acts, the goal of the federal government has been to increase access to students who may not have otherwise been able to attend. For Financial Aid Administrators, it is not enough to simply get low–income students through the college doors of higher education, but ensuring that students are successfully persisting and progressing to the completion of their college degree. Focusing on this university as opposed to other state schools was preferable due to a large number of students and the diversity of the student population as compared to other state schools within the state. Additionally, this University has 3 campuses (one in the southern part of the state, one in the central part and one in the northern part) thus providing a representative sample of the state with regard to characteristics including socioeconomic status, race, and gender. This study utilized secondary data analysis. The data was extracted from the larger data set through the University's Department of Institutional Research (IR). The role of this department is to collect, analyze and report on data for institutional planning, policy development and represents the university as an arm which disseminates public information services, in order to meet the needs of the university community and external stakeholders. For the purpose of this paper, the data was then organized and statistics were calculated based on the identified independent and dependent variables. The sample consisted of a fall 2012 cohort, totaling #______ students, entering as a first time, full–time freshman. The selection looks at the dependent variable (graduation rates) and captures whether or not low–income students successfully graduate within four years of their matriculation, compared to other socioeconomic populations. • 14. Essay on Value of Higher Education As a child one may be encouraged to read by the idea that reading opens your mind up to new worlds. Such can be the same with a higher education. Education is a way to develop mentally and morally. Often we think about the financial benefit of a college degree. But what about things obtained that do not have a monetary value? There are things that we gain through the experience of college that otherwise, we may not. When you decide to attend college, you often have an idea of a field of study that you would like to follow. • 16. High Education And Higher Education Essay Education, specifically higher education, allows individuals in society to progress and move forward in societal stratifications. To specify, higher education is considered one of the main facets of exhibiting a high socioeconomic status. Therefore, to achieve a certain level in higher education is to progress in society as one of the elites. Although many perceive college and higher education solely through the lens of societal progression, these same people do not take in consideration the facets that are set in order to do such an act. With this in mind, the elements present in higher education, specifically at Lehigh University, are ones that heavily affect the student's progress and success. In education, there remains the dynamic dichotomy between "structure" and "agency". • 18. Why Is Higher Education Be An Argumentative Essay Higher education is an interesting topic for an argumentative essay. There are a lot of advantages, but also and a lot of disadvantages whether higher education should be free or not. Some of the issues that I will expand on their description are: financial aid, political will, right not a privilege, more opportunities for a good job, less quality and less inspiration and etc. In my opinion there are a lot of good things if the higher education is free. First of all, I would like to say that we are not a very wealthy country with a good economy, and the people who live here, do not have much money. So the children in our country, do not have equal rights for going and learning on some of the universities. Why is this so? After finishing the obligatory secondary education...show more content... The teachers will not be so inspired to teach the students, and it will have a very bad quality of the education process. The universities will not give much quality, but quantity. So, it is a bad thing to offer free education to everyone, especially it is bad for the government, because they will loose a lot of money which they receive from the student taxes. This problem needs a serious research and people who are responsible for the field to find a very good solution. In a conlusion, I can say that there should be a special treatment on this problem. Maybe the higher education should not be free, but the government should make some other benefits in order to stimulate the students from the rural areas and those from the poor families to have a chance to take a higher education degree. All in all, it should be made some kind of a compromise in order the both sides to be happy, the students and the government. The time will show, if anything will be done on the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
