Positive Attitude
INTRODUCTION A good attitude or positive attitude is the outward manifestation of a mind that dwells primarily on positive matters. It is a mind–set
tipped in favour of creative activity rather than boredom, joy over sadness, hope over futility. A positive attitude is that state of mind which can be
maintained only through conscious effort. When something jars one's mental focus into a negative direction, those who are positive know that in order
to bounce back adjustments must be made.
THE CHOSEN ISSUE Attitude is the way you communicate your mood to others. When you are optimistic and anticipate successful encounters, you
transmit a positive attitude and people usually respond favourably. When you are pesimistic and expect...show more content...

If a child is friends with peers that have been taught and live by the same values, they are more likely to stick to those values than if they are
around those that have been taught or that live by different values. An example of this would be if a child is taught by their parents beginning at a
young age that sex before marriage is discouraged (Jago, E., 1999). If as a teen they begin to associate with those who believe that sex before
marriage is fine, they are more likely to also begin to feel that sex prior to marriage is okay. In Beverly Fagot's study of preschool children she
determined that boys actively discourage feminine behaviors and encourage masculine behaviors during play (Theories of Gender, n.d.).
A child's behavior and attitude can also be influenced by their home setting. It is often thought that parents and adults influence children's
gender–related behaviors; however, it seems that sex segregation is largely stimulated by the children themselves (Theories of Gender, n.d.). This is
most likely because of the different play styles of boys and girls. Boys tend to be more aggressive and assertive and prefer hierarchical group
interaction; whereas, girls seem to prefer egalitarian dyadic interaction (Theories of Gender, n.d.). This type of sex–segregation can begin as early as
three years of age.
Even though parents may not influence their child's

The Impact Of Attitudes On The Workplace Essay
Attitudes and emotions in the workplace are extremely important because they dictate job performance. The emotions that people go through are
something that cannot be avoided; however, they can be manipulated. Managers, leaders, CEO'S of companies learn to do this by experience and
training. They manipulate employee's emotions with the purpose of achieving better performance and satisfy an organization's goals. Although
people have always had different emotions, the notion that managers need to care for employee's satisfaction and happiness is newly implemented
in the workplace. In this paper, I will be explaining the impact of attitudes in the workplace, how mood, emotions, attitudes and behavior affect job
performance and I will implement the point of view of the CEO of the Defense Commissary Agency, Mr. Joseph Jeu. Attitudes are defined as
"Relatively stable feelings or beliefs that are directed towards specific persons, groups, ideas, jobs or other objects" (P.358). Due to the Hawthorne
effect, studies suggested that attitudes, moral and production were closely linked in a positive relationship. We could only imagine that organizations
were fast to hear about this and implement actions to improve the overall moral. However, this was not easy for them since they had to study worker's
behaviors in order to know what would be satisfying and what would not be. In addition, they had to figure out how to measure satisfaction. According
to Landy, new variables to work

Reflection Paper On Attitude
Have you ever had a job where you absolutely dreaded going to work in the morning? What about one that made you feel eager and optimistic? If
you've been able to experience both of these then you probably recognize that your work, effort, and overall attitude differ greatly. Webster defines
attitude as 'a mental position with regard to a fact or state or a feeling or emotion toward a fact or state.' I have had jobs where I have very little job
satisfaction and can personally relate to the effects that it had on my daily work. By being in a job where I feel committed and satisfied I can tell
that my work is more thorough, my attitude is more positive, and I enjoy what I am doing more. Having a more positive attitude about the job I
am doing makes me more apt to go above and beyond the expectations that are set for me. On the other side, I have also had jobs where I dreaded
getting up and leaving in the morning. I made excuses for being late, rationalized why my work wasn't 100%, and was often in a bad mood. I have
also had co–workers who act like they don't care about their jobs, turn in lazy work, and can be unpleasant in the office. It not only affects their
personal work but the work of others around them. A negative attitude in the workplace creates an atmosphere of distrust among employees and causes
employees to attempt to achieve success at the expense of each other. The famous saying 'Attitude is everything,' actually has some truth to it. While it

wonderful trait to carry with you throughout your life. Having a positive attitude makes it easier to avoid worries and negative thoughts that's going on

One day I went to the gym and saw this kid crying in the stands, so I went over to him to see what was wrong. He was upset because no one would
pick him on their team and he really wanted to play, so I told him that he could play with me on my team. It was our turn to play, we added an extra
three players to complete the team. As we were playing the other team I realized that he hasn't touched the ball yet and he was wide open, so I
passed it to him and as soon as he touch the ball he scored. Everyone in the gym was so surprised, including myself. The game got better each time
we passed him the ball, and he was having a great time. The opposite team was letting him score because he was new to basketball. It warmed my
heart to see what they were doing for him. Having a positive attitude can be contagious and spread to others. When having a positive attitude it
brings inspiration into your life. If you believe hard enough that you can achieve it, then you will succeed. Negativity will bring you down and
crush all of your dreams. If you are having negative thoughts, all you are doing is bringing yourself down. My freshman year in high school I had

test results would look like. The night before the exam, I had just finished studying and my mom had told me" If you believe it, the mind

Positive Effects Of Attitude
Effects of Attitude
Distance, time, money, tiredness and several other things in life are just a question of one's attitude. Context and situations decide the attitude.
If a person has to travel say 15 to 20 miles per day to his workplace, he will definitely be cribbing. On the other hand, if the remuneration is going to be
hefty he will not mind travelling the same distance. The distance has not changed, but his attitude towards remuneration makes this passable.
One often complains that he does not have time for even the small things in life. Just an introspection shall reveal that it is an excuse one gives to
oneself. Aperson who does not have time for a courtesy call to a related person will definitely be able to squeeze in time to spend time with his
friend in spite of any tight schedule. After a whole day of work, spending hours at the gym seem alright, but helping out your mother or spouse at
home may seem a burden or vice versa. Or else if a friend calls for an outing will freak out forgetting both the above. It is...show more content...
On the contrary they do not mind giving generous 'Tips' in fancy restaurants because of attitude.
Perceptions of Attitude are more important and can change during periods of Natural disasters. During a recent flood havoc in a major city in India, the
people's attitude was so positive that they were able to render all assistance to those affected without any inhibitions of class, creed, rich, poor, etc.
People may throw stones at your path. It is your attitude with which you face the hurdle, that will lead to 'a wall or a bridge'. Remember your attitude
is the architect of your life.
Success requires more than talent. While talent and knowledge are essential, the key that unlocks them both is your state of mind. Being positive
makes you more dependable. When you are positive you will find that you instinctively respect others, and are therefore more considerate.

Concept Of Attitudes On Attitudes
Concept of Attitudes
In literature there are several definitions of attitude. According to Legendre (LaFortune & Saint–Pierre, 2001, pp. 30–31) an attitude "is a state of
spirit, an inner disposition acquired in relation to himself or to the whole element of the surrounding environment that incites a way of being or acting,
favorable or unfavorable ". For Morissette and Gingras (1999) an attitude is "an inner disposition of the person that translates into moderate emotional
reactions that are assimilated and then tested whenever the person is placed before an object; These emotional reactions lead her to approach the
object (to be favorable) or to depart (be unfavorable)".
At the beginning of the studies on attitudes by psychology, Allport...show more content...
The most widely used models for the study of attitude are the Model Classical Tripartite Attitude (CAB Model), the Classical One–Dimensional Model
of Attitude and the Model Attitude–coated Tripartite according to Neto (1998). Attitude is composed of cognition, affection andbehavior, these
elements being the most diversified order.
Since attitude is a set of multidimensional variables, and taking into account the traditional approach made by Rosenberg and Hovland (1960), which

Studies by Brewer & Crano (1994) and Olson & Zanna (1993), draw the following rationale for the three components. The affective component of
attitudes refers to the way a particular stimulus triggers affective reactions, regardless of the information has on it, and some symbolic attitudes
concerning ideological contents. However, most attitudes are cognitive information dependent on the conjugation of existing beliefs, that is, on how

What Is Attitude Essay
Attitude is a choice in which each of us choose to take but often, we forget we have a choice at all. Attitude can be a powerful tool for positive
action or a poison that cripples your ability to fulfil your potential. Your attitude determines whether you are living life or life is living you. It also
determines whether you are on the way or in the way. So to speak, self–confident people may suffer setbacks, get dragged down by hard times, or make
mistakes, but they still believe they will be successful and come out being victorious. In the other way round, those who don't believe in themselves
never seem to find their way and due to this, they often seem to drift with the tides. To everything we do in life, choice is the beginning or starting
point and by changing our attitudes, we automatically change our lives. If you want a positive attitude, you will need to be committed enough to work
at/on it and once you have discovered those things that have been holding you back, then it is time to look ahead and analyze where you want to go.

The limits of our mind–set is enough to determine the boundaries of our future. When we become fixated on the problems, we become paralyzed but
when we look ahead for solutions, we are indirectly taking responsibility and some measure of control over our lives. Thus, it is up to you to
assign a value or meaning on the point of view you decide to take. You can turn attitude into action to find purpose and passion but lack of vision
will definitely get you lost. Comfort zones can be treacherous when you believe that, "I just can't leave what I'm familiar with, no matter the level of
frustration I get." So, it is easy to become angry about standing still but being afraid to move and if you don't make the move, sooner or later, life

From the results of the assessments regarding my personality, values, attitudes, motivation, decision making capabilities and other factors that reveal
how effective I am in a working organization, I found that it affirms my Jungian "Executive" personality. In the first set of assessments I was asked a
series of multiple choice questions on how I would handle a given situation. The Big Five test model had high scores for agreeableness,
conscientiousness, and emotional stability, and it had moderate scores for extroversion and openness to experience. Agreeableness is defined as
"someone who is good–natured, cooperative and trusting (Pearson Education, 2008)." Conscientiousness is described as "someone who is responsible,
dependable, persistent, and achievement oriented (Pearson Education, 2008)." Extroversion is "someone who is sociable, talkative, and assertive
(Pearson Education, 2008)." Emotional stability indicates that "someone is calm, enthusiastic, and secure (Pearson Education, 2008)." Openness to
experience reveals that someone is "imaginative, artistically sensitive, and intellectual (Pearson Education, 2008)." Highlighting the conscientiousness
and extroversion factors, one can see how these preferences are important to managers for conscientiousness leads to high levels of job knowledge
and being social is a prerequisite for a leadership position. Other results stated that I not only possess the ENTJ personality, but also I have a high

well as this it will look at the different cognitive processes that a necessary for a person to change their attitude and how strongly the attitude is held

This is where people actively divert their attention away from a source that is challenging their attitude and the opositie of this is true when an attitude

Cognitivie dissonance is a type of tension or uncomfortable feeling that occurs when there is a conflict between the attitudes a person holds and the
behaviour they are exhibiting. When this conflict cannot be resolved it can sometimes lead to people changing their attitude towards something in
order to justify it to themselves. Attitudes are more likely to change when we have few reasons or rewards for attitude– discreptant behaviour
(Harmon–Jones 2000). However attitude change is not the only solution to dissonance. People may trivialize the action that they took by making the
behaviour seem insignificant (Simon, Greenberg, & Brehm, 1995). They also may try to justifiy their actions by finding new information that supports
the behaviour that they showed. This allows people to resolve the dissonance without changing their attitudes.

Examples Of A Bad Attitude Essay
Here is a simple test to see if you've got a bad attitude. Do you see a lot more people in the world who have a better situation than the one you were
born into? Does it seem unfair that all the bad things have happened to you and not to others? Do you feel like you got cheated somehow and that life
isn't really fair? If you answered "yes" to two or more of those questions then you probably have a "bad attitude".
The truth of the matter is, life is completely fair to everyone. This is not something that a lot of people like to hear. It puts the responsibility on you to
act and make things better for yourself and responsibility is not something that a lot of people are interested in. In fact, if this is something that makes
you angry to hear, you most certainly are suffering from a bad attitude yourself.
Think of the fact that life is full of challenges and tragedies. Nobody has all the answers to life or understands the situations that others have gone

others, people always tell me that I am always happy and smiling, and that whenever people see me I am always smiling. Listening skills: The way
that I would describe myself when listening to others is first I let them speak to get their whole point across. I sometimes interrupt, and I also ask
questions, as well as pay close attention to what the person is saying but I also tend to dose off somewhere else, and I do get easily distracted by
noises, or other conversations. I sometimes tend to connect to my own experiences but, often take the focus off the other person and go on and on.

What is an Attitude? Essay
Many theorists have attempted to define what an attitude is, thus, some are utilized more than others within contemporary research. One, which is
commonly referred to, is that of Fazio (1995) whereby he states an attitude is "an association in memory between a given object and a given summary
evaluation of the object" (p. 247). A recent definition of attitudes would be that of Haddock (2010). He defines attitudes based on more contemporary
ideas and research by saying, '...we define an attitude as an overall evaluation of an object that is based on cognitive, affective and behavioural
information' (p.4). There seems to be much conflict of ideas, between theorists as to which component (cognition, affect or behaviour) holds more
salience in...show more content...
It is also worth noting, that there can be differing strengths of attitudes, and the levels of cognition, affect or behaviour may influence this. Examining
the strength of attitudes in different environments may be the key to understanding how the three components may influence attitudes originally.
Much research has been sought for attitudes and more recent papers, such as Wyer, Calvini, Nash and Miles (2010) have highlighted the link
between attitudes and the components. Wyer et al (2010) have commented on how attitudes within the UK, are held similarly between individuals, as
well as stereotypes. It is also noted how these also will then prompt behavioural and affective responses as a result, across individuals, with the same
similar fashion. This is useful in understanding Patrick's response to blacks, as it highlights there is a collective tendency to form attitudes or
stereotypes, and then produce reactions to social groups (or attitude objects), of both in and out groups, within society. The emphasis of this research is
that of affective and behavioural states, as a result of stereotypes, which therefore highlights the need to evaluate all components in the influence of
attitudes, rather than one sole component. Wyer et al (2010), who look at the stereotypes attached to the wearing of 'hoodies', make a valid point
which can be applied to most social groups or

Attitude Is the Key to Success
ATTITUDE IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS
"Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedom– to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances" – Viktor
E. Frankl
A very simple but true saying is that the only thing you can't take away from me is the way I choose to respond to what you do to me. The last of the
human freedom is the power to choose one's attitude in any given circumstance and seemingly hopeless environment.
The important question is what is attitude? Attitude is the way we mentally look at the world around us and act so. A well researched book "Emotional
Intelligence" by Daniel Goleman brings the scientific proof that "its our attitude more than aptitude that determines our altitude."...show more content...
Attitude is often based on past experiences. So most of the times, we get stuck because of the bad experiences we went through. Old tapes are hard to
erase but for success one should make a deliberate effort to approach each situation with a fresh and positive outlook. Whatever challenges are to be
faced, focus on the future and not on the history.
These are some of the ways of incorporating positive attitudes to get success in life. * Expect the best, Focus on what's right, not what's wrong. To
reinforce the positive attitude in others, use every opportunity to encourage desired behaviour. * Observe how our own attitude affects those around
us. The attitude of the individual often determines the attitude of a group. * Do we enjoy our job? Are we spending most of our time on something
that makes us feel purposeful and fulfilled. If not consider exploring other career options and moving towards a job we love. When we regularly do
things that make us happy, we feel better about ourselves and our own life which fosters positive attitude. * Think and speak positively to and about
ourself everyday. Most of us are in the habit of talking down to ourselves, which leaves us feeling hopeless, frustrated and pessimistic. Get into the
habit of building onself up with positive self–talk and positive thoughts. * The more we focus on emphasizing the positive in others the more likeable
we are going to be,

Academic Attitude Essay
Academic Attitude
During the course of a student's progression through academia, he must learn that the teacher cannot think for him. It is essential for a student to free
his mind, allowing thought to flow. Instead of waiting for the answers to be handed to him on a silver platter, he will rise to his full potential, above to
the meta level, and for himself, determine what the answer is. The student must also become active in his learning. Therefore taking his academic
potential to the higher level. As well as achieving the higher level of thinking, the student must actively pursue his learning. The way a student
approaches his education, weather he be in junior high or seeking his doctorate, is his academic attitude.

"Banking Concept" (23) Someone, usually the teacher, makes a deposit of facts, then, when the student needs these facts, withdrawals
them (23). Through this, the mind is in no way liberalized. In order to liberalize, one must step away from deposit–making. In its place, act upon his
own education. Go the extra mile by asking questions and posing problems as they relate to their own experiences. The student, as part of his academic
attitude, needs to become involved in his education.
There are many ways a student can become involved. Most importantly, a student must become part of a "conversation" with the author
while reading.
When the student reads as if having a conversation or discussion, she will be able to raise questions or to challenge the authors claims. In the process of
questioning the author, the student will determine for herself the meaning of the passage. Only when the student becomes involved and asks questions
does this informative dialogue evolve. It is equally important to pursue some sort of conversation during class as well. Through this type of exchange,
both the teacher and student benefit. Not only does the student learn from the teacher, but she teaches the teacher

Positive Attitude

  • 1. Positive Attitude INTRODUCTION A good attitude or positive attitude is the outward manifestation of a mind that dwells primarily on positive matters. It is a mind–set tipped in favour of creative activity rather than boredom, joy over sadness, hope over futility. A positive attitude is that state of mind which can be maintained only through conscious effort. When something jars one's mental focus into a negative direction, those who are positive know that in order to bounce back adjustments must be made. THE CHOSEN ISSUE Attitude is the way you communicate your mood to others. When you are optimistic and anticipate successful encounters, you transmit a positive attitude and people usually respond favourably. When you are pesimistic and expect...show more content... If a child is friends with peers that have been taught and live by the same values, they are more likely to stick to those values than if they are around those that have been taught or that live by different values. An example of this would be if a child is taught by their parents beginning at a young age that sex before marriage is discouraged (Jago, E., 1999). If as a teen they begin to associate with those who believe that sex before marriage is fine, they are more likely to also begin to feel that sex prior to marriage is okay. In Beverly Fagot's study of preschool children she determined that boys actively discourage feminine behaviors and encourage masculine behaviors during play (Theories of Gender, n.d.). A child's behavior and attitude can also be influenced by their home setting. It is often thought that parents and adults influence children's gender–related behaviors; however, it seems that sex segregation is largely stimulated by the children themselves (Theories of Gender, n.d.). This is most likely because of the different play styles of boys and girls. Boys tend to be more aggressive and assertive and prefer hierarchical group interaction; whereas, girls seem to prefer egalitarian dyadic interaction (Theories of Gender, n.d.). This type of sex–segregation can begin as early as three years of age. Even though parents may not influence their child's Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. The Impact Of Attitudes On The Workplace Essay Attitudes and emotions in the workplace are extremely important because they dictate job performance. The emotions that people go through are something that cannot be avoided; however, they can be manipulated. Managers, leaders, CEO'S of companies learn to do this by experience and training. They manipulate employee's emotions with the purpose of achieving better performance and satisfy an organization's goals. Although people have always had different emotions, the notion that managers need to care for employee's satisfaction and happiness is newly implemented in the workplace. In this paper, I will be explaining the impact of attitudes in the workplace, how mood, emotions, attitudes and behavior affect job performance and I will implement the point of view of the CEO of the Defense Commissary Agency, Mr. Joseph Jeu. Attitudes are defined as "Relatively stable feelings or beliefs that are directed towards specific persons, groups, ideas, jobs or other objects" (P.358). Due to the Hawthorne effect, studies suggested that attitudes, moral and production were closely linked in a positive relationship. We could only imagine that organizations were fast to hear about this and implement actions to improve the overall moral. However, this was not easy for them since they had to study worker's behaviors in order to know what would be satisfying and what would not be. In addition, they had to figure out how to measure satisfaction. According to Landy, new variables to work Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Examples Of Positive Attitude Essay Positive Attitudes If gives a choice of to being a positive person or negative person, I think that most of us prefer to be a positive person rather than negative. Positive thinking sounds grateful and useful. A Positive attitude is important nowadays society because the positive attitude can lead to healthier lifestyle. Many of us think that successful people of this world have created amazing lifestyle because they were given more opportunities than others. But these perceptions in this society are not true. The thing that people need to understand about to being a successful people, we have to think the differently than the rest of society. Positive attitudes can actually create real value in our working life. When working we need to think positive. With the positive attitude that we have, there is the way to shows people seeing, thinking and responding to our attitude when working. When working we might think that 'Why I need to do so much work compared to him?' But when a boss gives us do something there must be a reason. With a positive thinking we know that there is the place that we need to improve. Other than that, in working place a person with a positive attitude will almost always outperform a person with a negative attitude. A successful people in working they have a positive attitude may influence their life and its aspects in a way such as how they think, socialize with customers. • 5. Reflection Paper On Attitude Have you ever had a job where you absolutely dreaded going to work in the morning? What about one that made you feel eager and optimistic? If you've been able to experience both of these then you probably recognize that your work, effort, and overall attitude differ greatly. Webster defines attitude as 'a mental position with regard to a fact or state or a feeling or emotion toward a fact or state.' I have had jobs where I have very little job satisfaction and can personally relate to the effects that it had on my daily work. By being in a job where I feel committed and satisfied I can tell that my work is more thorough, my attitude is more positive, and I enjoy what I am doing more. Having a more positive attitude about the job I am doing makes me more apt to go above and beyond the expectations that are set for me. On the other side, I have also had jobs where I dreaded getting up and leaving in the morning. I made excuses for being late, rationalized why my work wasn't 100%, and was often in a bad mood. I have also had co–workers who act like they don't care about their jobs, turn in lazy work, and can be unpleasant in the office. It not only affects their personal work but the work of others around them. A negative attitude in the workplace creates an atmosphere of distrust among employees and causes employees to attempt to achieve success at the expense of each other. The famous saying 'Attitude is everything,' actually has some truth to it. While it may not be Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Positive Attitude Essay Can having a positive attitude bring success into your life? Having a positive attitude can get you far in life. Bringing negativity into your life doesn't get you anywhere, all it does is makes your life harder. Having a positive attitude may lead to success, happiness, and inspiration. Positivity is a wonderful trait to carry with you throughout your life. Having a positive attitude makes it easier to avoid worries and negative thoughts that's going on in your mind. Most importantly, it can bring success into your life. For example, Martin Luther King had a high level of positivity. No matter what was going on around him, he always had an affirmative attitude. One day I went to the gym and saw this kid crying in the stands, so I went over to him to see what was wrong. He was upset because no one would pick him on their team and he really wanted to play, so I told him that he could play with me on my team. It was our turn to play, we added an extra three players to complete the team. As we were playing the other team I realized that he hasn't touched the ball yet and he was wide open, so I passed it to him and as soon as he touch the ball he scored. Everyone in the gym was so surprised, including myself. The game got better each time we passed him the ball, and he was having a great time. The opposite team was letting him score because he was new to basketball. It warmed my heart to see what they were doing for him. Having a positive attitude can be contagious and spread to others. When having a positive attitude it brings inspiration into your life. If you believe hard enough that you can achieve it, then you will succeed. Negativity will bring you down and crush all of your dreams. If you are having negative thoughts, all you are doing is bringing yourself down. My freshman year in high school I had to take my Spanish exam and I was afraid of how poor I would do on the test. That whole week I was thinking about how bad and embarrassing my test results would look like. The night before the exam, I had just finished studying and my mom had told me" If you believe it, the mind Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Positive Effects Of Attitude Effects of Attitude Distance, time, money, tiredness and several other things in life are just a question of one's attitude. Context and situations decide the attitude. If a person has to travel say 15 to 20 miles per day to his workplace, he will definitely be cribbing. On the other hand, if the remuneration is going to be hefty he will not mind travelling the same distance. The distance has not changed, but his attitude towards remuneration makes this passable. One often complains that he does not have time for even the small things in life. Just an introspection shall reveal that it is an excuse one gives to oneself. Aperson who does not have time for a courtesy call to a related person will definitely be able to squeeze in time to spend time with his friend in spite of any tight schedule. After a whole day of work, spending hours at the gym seem alright, but helping out your mother or spouse at home may seem a burden or vice versa. Or else if a friend calls for an outing will freak out forgetting both the above. It is...show more content... On the contrary they do not mind giving generous 'Tips' in fancy restaurants because of attitude. Perceptions of Attitude are more important and can change during periods of Natural disasters. During a recent flood havoc in a major city in India, the people's attitude was so positive that they were able to render all assistance to those affected without any inhibitions of class, creed, rich, poor, etc. People may throw stones at your path. It is your attitude with which you face the hurdle, that will lead to 'a wall or a bridge'. Remember your attitude is the architect of your life. Success requires more than talent. While talent and knowledge are essential, the key that unlocks them both is your state of mind. Being positive makes you more dependable. When you are positive you will find that you instinctively respect others, and are therefore more considerate. Developing Positive Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Concept Of Attitudes On Attitudes Concept of Attitudes In literature there are several definitions of attitude. According to Legendre (LaFortune & Saint–Pierre, 2001, pp. 30–31) an attitude "is a state of spirit, an inner disposition acquired in relation to himself or to the whole element of the surrounding environment that incites a way of being or acting, favorable or unfavorable ". For Morissette and Gingras (1999) an attitude is "an inner disposition of the person that translates into moderate emotional reactions that are assimilated and then tested whenever the person is placed before an object; These emotional reactions lead her to approach the object (to be favorable) or to depart (be unfavorable)". The most widely used models for the study of attitude are the Model Classical Tripartite Attitude (CAB Model), the Classical One–Dimensional Model of Attitude and the Model Attitude–coated Tripartite according to Neto (1998). Attitude is composed of cognition, affection andbehavior, these elements being the most diversified order. Since attitude is a set of multidimensional variables, and taking into account the traditional approach made by Rosenberg and Hovland (1960), which proposes to analyze the three components separately, so that they can be operationalized. These variable are constituted by the affective component of an attitude refers to the subjective feelings and the physiological responses that accompany an attitude. The cognitive component refers to the beliefs and opinions through which the attitude is expressed, even though they are not always aware. The behavioral component concerns the mental and physical process that prepares the individual to act in a certain way. " (Neto, 1998). Studies by Brewer & Crano (1994) and Olson & Zanna (1993), draw the following rationale for the three components. The affective component of attitudes refers to the way a particular stimulus triggers affective reactions, regardless of the information has on it, and some symbolic attitudes concerning ideological contents. • 10. What Is Attitude Essay Attitude is a choice in which each of us choose to take but often, we forget we have a choice at all. Attitude can be a powerful tool for positive action or a poison that cripples your ability to fulfil your potential. Your attitude determines whether you are living life or life is living you. It also determines whether you are on the way or in the way. So to speak, self–confident people may suffer setbacks, get dragged down by hard times, or make mistakes, but they still believe they will be successful and come out being victorious. In the other way round, those who don't believe in themselves never seem to find their way and due to this, they often seem to drift with the tides. To everything we do in life, choice is the beginning or starting point and by changing our attitudes, we automatically change our lives. If you want a positive attitude, you will need to be committed enough to work at/on it and once you have discovered those things that have been holding you back, then it is time to look ahead and analyze where you want to go. You can turn attitude into action to find purpose and passion but lack of vision will definitely get you lost. Comfort zones can be treacherous when you believe that, "I just can't leave what I'm familiar with, no matter the level of frustration I get." • 11. From the results of the assessments regarding my personality, values, attitudes, motivation, decision making capabilities and other factors that reveal how effective I am in a working organization, I found that it affirms my Jungian "Executive" personality. In the first set of assessments I was asked a series of multiple choice questions on how I would handle a given situation. The Big Five test model had high scores for agreeableness, conscientiousness, and emotional stability, and it had moderate scores for extroversion and openness to experience. Agreeableness is defined as "someone who is good–natured, cooperative and trusting (Pearson Education, 2008)." Conscientiousness is described as "someone who is responsible, dependable, persistent, and achievement oriented (Pearson Education, 2008)." Extroversion is "someone who is sociable, talkative, and assertive (Pearson Education, 2008)." Emotional stability indicates that "someone is calm, enthusiastic, and secure (Pearson Education, 2008)." Openness to experience reveals that someone is "imaginative, artistically sensitive, and intellectual (Pearson Education, 2008)." Individuals' influences can lead to a great performance or poor performance. Therefore, a successful manger should recognize people's characteristics so as to assign jobs to the right people, adjust people to the suitable environment, and appoint people to the positions which can stretch people's capability. As such, it must take studies of people's behavior and characteristics as reference to develop organizational activities. Individual perception is primarily reflected in the following three aspects, Selectivity of perception. Information conveyed to senses of people, at the same time, is very abundant, but people are unable to process all information simultaneously, it is just allowed to choose part of them to process but neglect other information. Integrality of perception. It is reflecting integrality and relation of matters rather than only reflecting a few characteristics and attributes of stimuli. People often compound uncompleted stimuli directly functioning on senses into complete and unified integrality in terms of their knowledge and experience. Understanding of perception. People are not passive to receive information, in the course of perception, but to strive for explanation over the perceptual object whereby forming meanings. Due to influences of factors like experience, knowledge, and hobby, in the face of the same object, different explanations can be given and different judgments can be made. Generally speaking, people are an organization's most valuable and expensive resource, but they are the most difficult element of an organization to manage as a result of some determinants of behavior such as personality, attitude, perception. • 13. Attitude Change Research Paper Abstract This essay is assessing how attiutides are changed. Attitudes are beliefs that a person holds about certain subjects that have often had an impact on them. The essay will discuss the different methods that are using by outside stimuli to attempt to change a persons pre–exisiting attitudes. As well as this it will look at the different cognitive processes that a necessary for a person to change their attitude and how strongly the attitude is held will determine how the brain process the attempts to change them. The strength of the attitude is also one of the factors for determining whether or not the attitude can be changed. There can also be conflict between the attitudes that are held and the behaviour that is shown which can have...show more content... This is where people actively divert their attention away from a source that is challenging their attitude and the opositie of this is true when an attitude is supported. Cognitive Dissonance Another example of a situation where a change in attitude is when a person experiences cognitive dissonance. Cognitivie dissonance is a type of tension or uncomfortable feeling that occurs when there is a conflict between the attitudes a person holds and the behaviour they are exhibiting. When this conflict cannot be resolved it can sometimes lead to people changing their attitude towards something in order to justify it to themselves. Attitudes are more likely to change when we have few reasons or rewards for attitude– discreptant behaviour (Harmon–Jones 2000). However attitude change is not the only solution to dissonance. People may trivialize the action that they took by making the behaviour seem insignificant (Simon, Greenberg, & Brehm, 1995). They also may try to justifiy their actions by finding new information that supports the behaviour that they showed. This allows people to resolve the dissonance without changing their attitudes. Concurrently, the perception, attitudes and values of colleagues in the workplace play a role in determining the individual's effectiveness. Understanding these characteristics of employees can be very crucial for organizations to operate successfully. At the same time, it is essential that employees understand the values associated with the organization in order to avoid any conflicting feelings toward the work they are employed to do. I still do get frustrated when I do not achieve my goals, but I do not worry about how others' view me and thus, have lost a bit of the ability to sense others' emotions and feelings. In more general terms, I believe that heredity has definitely played an important role in providing me with strength and aggressiveness to pursue my goals, and influencing my reflexes, energy level and biological rhythm. However, concurrently, many aspects of my personality have been moulded through my own experience and my need to achieve what I aim for. Dominant Personality Traits. From a very young age, I have developed a personality which is aggressively involved "in a chronic, incessant struggle to achieve more and more in less and less time and, if necessary, against the opposing efforts of other things or other people" (Friedman, & Rosenman, 1974, p. 84), which I have come to discover, is known as a Type A personality. • 15. Examples Of A Bad Attitude Essay Here is a simple test to see if you've got a bad attitude. Do you see a lot more people in the world who have a better situation than the one you were born into? Does it seem unfair that all the bad things have happened to you and not to others? Do you feel like you got cheated somehow and that life isn't really fair? If you answered "yes" to two or more of those questions then you probably have a "bad attitude". The truth of the matter is, life is completely fair to everyone. This is not something that a lot of people like to hear. It puts the responsibility on you to act and make things better for yourself and responsibility is not something that a lot of people are interested in. In fact, if this is something that makes you angry to hear, you most certainly are suffering from a bad attitude yourself. Think of the fact that life is full of challenges and tragedies. • 16. I Must Describe My Attitude And Behavior The way that I would describe my attitude and behavior when relating with people is alright in my opinion I believe that I do not come off as being rude, as being caring, and sincere. The way that I would describe myself in stressful situations is that I tend to panic right away instead of stopping and thinking what should I do to resolve this problem. Instead of panicking and stressing out right away maybe I should ask the other person what I should do or what they would do. Non– Verbal Behavior : I would describe the messages that my nonverbal behavior send is that I act very approachable to others, people always tell me that I am always happy and smiling, and that whenever people see me I am always smiling. Listening skills: The way that I would describe myself when listening to others is first I let them speak to get their whole point across. I sometimes interrupt, and I also ask questions, as well as pay close attention to what the person is saying but I also tend to dose off somewhere else, and I do get easily distracted by noises, or other conversations. I sometimes tend to connect to my own experiences but, often take the focus off the other person and go on and on. I would describe myself as being warm to people, but young people my age find me less approachable, because of my lack of confidence. But older people children find me very approachable, kind, and warm that is because I am more confident with that age group. Some people have told me that my face Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 17. What is an Attitude? Essay Many theorists have attempted to define what an attitude is, thus, some are utilized more than others within contemporary research. One, which is commonly referred to, is that of Fazio (1995) whereby he states an attitude is "an association in memory between a given object and a given summary evaluation of the object" (p. 247). A recent definition of attitudes would be that of Haddock (2010). He defines attitudes based on more contemporary ideas and research by saying, '...we define an attitude as an overall evaluation of an object that is based on cognitive, affective and behavioural information' (p.4). There seems to be much conflict of ideas, between theorists as to which component (cognition, affect or behaviour) holds more salience in...show more content... It is also worth noting, that there can be differing strengths of attitudes, and the levels of cognition, affect or behaviour may influence this. Examining the strength of attitudes in different environments may be the key to understanding how the three components may influence attitudes originally. Much research has been sought for attitudes and more recent papers, such as Wyer, Calvini, Nash and Miles (2010) have highlighted the link between attitudes and the components. Wyer et al (2010) have commented on how attitudes within the UK, are held similarly between individuals, as well as stereotypes. It is also noted how these also will then prompt behavioural and affective responses as a result, across individuals, with the same similar fashion. This is useful in understanding Patrick's response to blacks, as it highlights there is a collective tendency to form attitudes or stereotypes, and then produce reactions to social groups (or attitude objects), of both in and out groups, within society. The emphasis of this research is that of affective and behavioural states, as a result of stereotypes, which therefore highlights the need to evaluate all components in the influence of attitudes, rather than one sole component. Wyer et al (2010), who look at the stereotypes attached to the wearing of 'hoodies', make a valid point which can be applied to most social groups or Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Attitude Is the Key to Success ATTITUDE IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS "Everything can be taken from a man but one thing: the last of the human freedom– to choose one's attitude in any given set of circumstances" – Viktor E. Frankl A very simple but true saying is that the only thing you can't take away from me is the way I choose to respond to what you do to me. The last of the human freedom is the power to choose one's attitude in any given circumstance and seemingly hopeless environment. The important question is what is attitude? Attitude is the way we mentally look at the world around us and act so. A well researched book "Emotional Intelligence" by Daniel Goleman brings the scientific proof that "its our attitude more than aptitude that determines our altitude."...show more content... Old tapes are hard to erase but for success one should make a deliberate effort to approach each situation with a fresh and positive outlook. These are some of the ways of incorporating positive attitudes to get success in life. * Expect the best, Focus on what's right, not what's wrong. To reinforce the positive attitude in others, use every opportunity to encourage desired behaviour. * Observe how our own attitude affects those around us. The attitude of the individual often determines the attitude of a group. * Do we enjoy our job? Are we spending most of our time on something that makes us feel purposeful and fulfilled. If not consider exploring other career options and moving towards a job we love. When we regularly do things that make us happy, we feel better about ourselves and our own life which fosters positive attitude. * Think and speak positively to and about ourself everyday. It is essential for a student to free his mind, allowing thought to flow. Instead of waiting for the answers to be handed to him on a silver platter, he will rise to his full potential, above to the meta level, and for himself, determine what the answer is. The student must also become active in his learning. Therefore taking his academic potential to the higher level. Then the student "repeats these phrases without perceiving what (for example) four times four really is" (Freire 23). This idea is known as the "Banking Concept" (23) Someone, usually the teacher, makes a deposit of facts, then, when the student needs these facts, withdrawals them (23). Through this, the mind is in no way liberalized. In order to liberalize, one must step away from deposit–making. In its place, act upon his own education. Go the extra mile by asking questions and posing problems as they relate to their own experiences. The student, as part of his academic attitude, needs to become involved in his education. There are many ways a student can become involved. Most importantly, a student must become part of a "conversation" with the author while reading. When the student reads as if having a conversation or discussion, she will be able to raise questions or to challenge the authors claims. In the process of questioning the author, the student will determine for herself the meaning of the passage. Only when the student becomes involved and asks questions does this informative dialogue evolve. It is equally important to pursue some sort of conversation during class as well. Through this type of exchange, both the teacher and student benefit. Not only does the student learn from the teacher, but she teaches the teacher Get more content on HelpWriting.net
