The count used in weaving
gives the softness and
hardness of the fabric.
Count means the number of
threads used in the length
and breadth for weaving
known as warp and weft
respectively. In Rasipuram
5600 threads are used in
warp. The width of the saree
comes to 51 inches. Each
and every thread of the
Rasipuram handloom saree
is hand woven.
Each weaver works from
home with all his / her family
members helping in different
steps of the process. It
requires approximately
4-8 days (depending on
the variety of saree) of
continuous efforts for
weaving a saree.
Dyeing
The process of
manufacturing a Rasipuram
handloom Saree starts with
dyeing the silk yarn. Dyeing
is the coloring process of the
yarn by dipping the yarn in
the boiled color water in very
high temperature, higher
the temperature durability of
colour is also higher. Dyeing
of the yarn is done making
sure that the color is spread
uniformly throughout the
Handloom
industry
The village is once well
known for handloom silk
products. Once famous for
its handloom products now
flourishing with powerlooms.
The traditional weavers are
very much upset due to
the decline of handlooms.
Rasipuram is famous for
its silk handloom products.
Rasipuram handlooms are
well known for the durability
of the colours used in the
yarn. The mixture of colour
gives durability.
Rasipuram is a Municipality in the district of
Salem in India. It is situated 25 Km from Salem
and 25 Km from Namakkal district. This is rather
a small village with the population engaged in
agriculture and handloom weaving. The people
here speak only Tamil.

yarn and it does not affect
the quality of the yarn.
The coloring process is a
very crucial step in getting
a colourful saree. The
colours are applied as per
the specifications of the
designers and also some
times as per the orders
from customers who orders
for a designer Saree. After
coloring, the silk yarn is
dried in shade. Drying yarn
in sun can be harmful to
yarn.
Weaving
After dyeing and drying
the yarn, it is converted to
thread and is loaded as
warp which is called pavvu
and then it is loaded into
the loom for actual weaving.
It is also rolled over small
sticks to use for wept.
One pavvu can make 6
sarees. It will take 2 months
to complete weaving of
one pavvu. Rasipuram
handloom sarees are
traditionally woven in the
interlocked-weft technique.
Design
The design required
on the saree is initially
drawn in a computer and
then punched into a card
and then these cards are
loaded in the Jacard in the
loom. Jacard is a box like
structure which is fixed in
the top of the loom. There
will be needles in the Jacard
which will read the punched
cards and control the
weaving of weft.
Declining
Handloom
industry
In Rasipuram silk handloom
sarees are weaved. Due
to the high cost of silk
yarn now the weavers of
Rasipuram are struggling to
continue in the profession.
Now one can see only
very few weavers weaving
Rasipuram silk handloom
products. Once famous
Rasipuram Handloom
products are now becoming
extinct due to the high cost
of silk yarn and low wages
prevailing in the industry.
Previously Rasipuram was
full of talented weavers
who used to do magic in
the looms to produce the
best handloom products.
Now you can see only a
small number of weavers
in this profession and
most of the handlooms
are being converted to
powerlooms. There is an
emergency situation to take
necessary action to protect

handloom products.
Weaver’s voice
The weavers of Rasipuram
blame the mushrooming
powerlooms for the high
cost of silk yarn. The
weavers demands a
responsible role by the
government to protect
the handloom industry by
providing subsidy for yarn
and a rehabilitation package
for the weavers who are
suffering due to high cost
of yarn and low wages
prevailing in the industry.
They hope that if the
government takes the
responsibility to support
the handloom industry by
way of showcasing and
marketing the handloom
products, the industry can
survive or else the present
situation has started the
end of handloom industry
in Rasipuram. The new
generation is not interested
in the profession due to the
hard labour and long hours
to bring out the finished
product, even the returns
are not lucrative to make
them stay in the profession.
Due to the non availability
of weavers the handloom
industry is fastly shifting to
power looms.

INDIAN DIASPORA TRADITION
T ways of worship, and marriage
costumes all add meaning to their
way of living.
The main occupation of the Jaunsari
is agriculture, which they supplement
by raising buffaloes, cows, goats,
and sheep. Their principal crops
are potatoes and rice and a variety
of other vegetables . They follow
a system of plot rotation in which
the ground is allowed to lie fallow.
Wet rice cultivation is done during
the monsoon season. Dry rice,
maize, millet and wheat are raised
on the drier land. The villagers live
on a simple diet of milk, lentils,
a few vegetables, some fruit and
occasionally meat.
The Jaunsari caste system has
only three categories - landowners,
servants (those involved in a service
occupation or art), and Brahmins
(Hindu priests).
The Jaunsari community traces its
origin to the Pandavas of Mahabharat.
The five Pandava brothers having
one wife. Traditionally, Jaunsari
have followed the custom of brothers
sharing wives. The Jaunsaris have
practised polyandry, where one
woman will have more than one
husband. Some anthropologists
assert that the Jaunsaris are the last
surviving ‘pure’ descendants of the
Aryans. Polyandry and polygamy are
not the only facets of the colourful
lifestyle of the Jaunsaris—their dances,

The Jaunsari Pahari live primarily in the northern
state of Uttar Pradesh. The term “Pahari” can refer
to any mountain dwelling people. The different
Paharia groups can be distinguished by region,
religion, and caste.

The Jaunsaris make their
houses out of wood, bricks
and stones, with slate, wood
and thatch roofing. Doors,
windows and doorframes
are often ornately carved
and painted. The houses
are rectangular in shape
and many have two stories,
with the people living on the
upper floor and the animals
roaming freely on the ground
floor.
The object of the Jaunsaris’
worship is the goddess
Mahasu, as well as the
Pandavas and their mother
Kunti. Their pilgrimage
centre is a place called
Lakhamandal. Festivals and
fairs are an integral part of
the life of Jaunsari tribal
community. Bissu, a type of
fair marking the harvesting,
is quite a significant one.

INDIAN DIASPORA CULTURE
BhoksaThe Knowledgeable
Bhoksa, also known as Buksa, are indigenous peoples
living mainly in the states of Uttarakhand and Uttar
Pradesh. They are mostly concentrated in Dehradun and
Nainital districts in the Kumaon foothills of the outer
Himalayas. They are found in the Bijnor district of
Uttar Pradesh, where they are known as Mehra.

the Terai. In Uttar Pradesh,
they are found in Pilibhit
and Bijnor districts, while in
Uttarakhand, they are found
in Udham Singh Nagar and
Dehradun districts.
The Bhoksas are now Hindu,
having abandoned earlier
animist traditions and this is
seen by their use of Brahmin
priests. They maintain a
tribal deity, Shakumbari
Devi, to which they have
a special relevance. The
Bhoksa now speak Hindi
and have customs similar
to other neighbouring
Hindu communities. The
Bhoksa still occupy distinct
settlements, which they do
not share with any tribal or
caste grouping.They are
now cultivators, with many
maintaining their secondary
occupation as mountain
guides.
The Bhoksas are strictly
endogamous and practice
clan exogamy. Their main
clans are the Chauhan,
Pundir, Tonwar, Chambaval,
Kutiyala, Panwar, Phalsane,
Katheriya, Tumbewar,
Banwarbatti, Lakkiwal,
Malanhas, Khasam, Kotwal
and Chad. All these clans
are of equal status and
intermarry.
Women are not highly
literate but their suggestions
are not over looked. They
hold a good position in
The language of Bhoksa
is Tharu. The language is
spoken in Uttarakhand,
mainly in southwestern
Nainital district, along a
diagonal from Ramnagar
to Keneshpur. It is spoken
around 130 villages in
Kichha and Kashipur tahsils,
some in Bijnor and Garhwal
Districts. Bhoksa is a
corruption of the word buqra,
which is a root found in the
Terai and was the staple diet
of the Bhoksa.
Some traditions state that
they acquired the name on
account of the fact that their
appearance was unkempt
and their neighbours gave
the name bhoksa, which
means a mountain goat in
the local Pahari language.
In Dehradun and Bijnor
districts, they are known as
Mehra, which is said to be a
corruption of the Hindi word
mehram, which means a
knowledgeable person.
Bhoksas claim that they are
Rajputs from the Deccan
Plateau that fled to the
hills to escape the Muslim
conquerors of India. This is
said to be reflected in their
sub-division, the Rajvanshi,
Suryavanshi, Chandravanshi
and Dujvanshi, all well
known Rajput sub-groups.
The Bhoksa are found
along the slopes of the
lower Himalayas, in a
forested region known as
the family. They do not
follow the veil system.
Kinship relations are very
momentous in their lives.
Purchase marriage is very
frequent among them.
Bride wealth is in practice,
because sex ratio is very far
from equivalency. Girls play
a vital role in the domestic
work.
A Bhoksa male can marry
only in a situation, when
he has an agricultural
land because it proves
his capability to look after
his family. Marriage is
performed in the late age.
They are exogamous at the
level of gotra. Cross cousin
and parallel cousin marriage
is a social taboo in their
cultural life. Separation is
permitted. It is minimal due
to the high bride wealth,
which is not possible for
a Bhoksa male to arrange
from time to time.
Bhoksas follow the Hindu
religion. They have faith
in the Hindu gods and
goddess. They worship to
Shankar (Mahadev) – the
main Hindu god, Kali, Durga,
Lakshmi, Ram, Krishna.
Chamunda devi is the main
goddess, who is known as
“Badi devi”.
Holi, Deepavali, Dushara,
Krishna Janmashtmi are
their main festivals.

The Prime Minister said,
“This is a day linked with

there were many utensils
containing milk, curd and
other dairy products. They all
got scattered and spilt.
Yasoda and the others got
scared and came running
to the cart. Everyone was
surprised and frightened.
Apparently the cart had got
destroyed by itself. All the
boys who witnessed the feat
said with absolute certainty
that the cart was destroyed
by the kick of the baby. But
the elders could not believe
their words.
Yasoda thought that
probably the child might
have been possessed by
a ghost which in turn had
broken the cart, Immediately
she called some priests to
chant Mantras to exorcise
the ghost. But the baby
was least affected by these
things. He was once again
playing merrily looking with
his bewitching smile at
everyone.
The fact was that an Asura
had taken the form of a cart
on the advice of Kamsa. He
had come to Gokula with the
intention of running away
with the child. But the Lord,
in the form of a baby, knew
everything and with a kick of
his foot destroyed the cart
and the Asura. The name of
the Asura was Sakatasura.
She wanted to celebrate
the occasion of the first
taking out of the child from
the house. She invited all
the ladies of Gokula. They
all went to the banks of the
Yamuna. In the midst of the
sound of drums, music and
chanting of Mantras the child
was given a ceremonial bath.
Yasoda found her son too
tried and sleepy after the
bath. It was very hot. There
was a big unyoked cart
standing nearby. Yasoda
placed the cradle under the
cart and gently laid the baby
in the cradle. She busied
herself in serving the large
number of guests who had
come to her residence.
The child got up after a while
and started crying. But in the
noise of the crowd, mother
Yasoda did not hear the cry.
The child became very angry
and began to kick with his
tiny legs. What a surprise!
At the kickings of those tiny
legs, the cart shook and
collapsed with a great sound.

HEALTHY LIVING

WWW.WISHESH.COM | JULY 2016
Healthy living
is
Happy living
The busier you are, the harder it is to find time to take
care of yourself. “Healthy living” for most people means
that both physical and mental health are in balance or
functioning well together in a person. Physical and mental
health are closely linked and hence a change, good or bad
in one, directly affects the other.
Here are some valuable tips
for a happy living
1. Start your day with orange
juice. This fends off PMS,
high blood pressure and
osteoporosis. It might even
help you lose weight! Most
calcium-fortified orange and
grapefruit juices have as
much calcium as milk--or
more!
2. People who take a daily
multivitamin / mineral
supplement have dramatic
reductions in the risk of colon
cancer and heart disease.
3. The folic acid in your
multivitamin / mineral
supplement is almost two
times more absorbable than
the form of this vitamin found
in food.
4. Eating cereal is your
easiest chance to get lots of
fiber in a small package.
5. Blueberries are youth
berries. Even frozen
blueberries are packed with
antioxidants.
6. Use milk in your morning
coffee which fights against
osteoporosis from the calcium
and vitamin D in the milk.
7. An apple is the handiest
snack to grab when the
munchies hit. Apple-a-
day eaters can provide
better protection against air
pollution.
8. Nuts are rich in healthy
monounsaturated fats,
vitamin E, magnesium and
phytochemicals, people who
snack on a small handful of
them four or five times a week
tend to live longer.
9. Whole wheat bread has
fiber, important nutrients such
as selenium and copper, and
a treasury of other healthy
ingredients.
10. Look for tea that says it’s
been decaffeinated with water
and carbon dioxide which
preserves antioxidants.

How to prepare
Wash toor dal, add it to the pressure
cooker with 1 cup of water and turmeric
powder and cook for 3 – 4 whistles.
Transfer the dal to a bowl, add cut
vegetables to it. Add 3 cups of water,
mix it well. Bring it to a boil and then
cook on medium flame till the veggies
get cooked well.
Now add tamarind extract and salt. Let
it boil for some more time or till the raw
smell goes off.
Now add sambar powder and asafoetida
powder / hing. Mix it well and let it boil
for another 5 – 6 minutes. Turn off the
stove.
In another pan, heat coconut oil,
add mustard seeds, shallots, dry red
chilly, curry leaves and saute for a few
seconds. Saute till sambar onion turns
light brownish in color.
Pour this mix over boiling sambar.
Thiruvithamkoor sambar is ready to
serve it with rice or along with Idly or
Dosa. You can also immerse wada in
this sambar and make sambar wada.
The method of making Travancore
sambar or Thiruvithamkoor sambar is
very easy. Cook the lentils, mix it with
the cut vegetables, cook them, add
tamarind paste and sambar powder
and finally tempering them. And the
vegetable delicasy is ready to serve.

Britons are uncomfortable
about the rise in immigration
and blame the European
Union membership for
allowing unfettered arrivals
from Europe. Others see the
issue as an indication that
Brussels has too much say
over the Britain in general,
that the EU is unaccountable
and that membership, at £8
billion a year ($11.6 billion), is
too costly.
Under EU rules, anyone from
the bloc can live and work
in any EU member state.
Those lobbying for Britain’s
exit say that is the only way
the country can control its
borders.
Immigration in the U.K. has
risen sharply over the past
decade or so, particularly
in the wake of the EU’s
expansion eastward to
include countries such
as Poland, Lithuania and
Romania. Its relatively strong
economic performance has
drawn many EU citizens
looking to escape the
sluggishness that has beset
the wider region.
Boston, a medieval town
some 110 miles north of
London, has seen the biggest
percentage of increase in
immigrants between 2001 and
2011 of anywhere in England
and Wales, with numbers
increasing nearly sixfold since
the early 2000s, according
to Migration Observatory, an
independent analysis center
at the University of Oxford.
Immigration critics say that it
is contributing to the erosion
of British traditions, values
and way of life, while placing
pressure on Britain’s public
resources and infrastructure.
“There are good ways of
controlling migration, and one
of them is the important rules
we’re bringing in so people
don’t get instant access to our
welfare system,” Mr. Cameron
said in Parliament. “But there
are bad ways of controlling
immigration. Leaving the
single market and wrecking
our economy is certainly one
of them.”
“Immigration is a powerful
symbol of our lack of
control,” says Boris Johnson,
London’s former mayor and
the most prominent politician
campaigning for the U.K. to
leave the EU. “It shows just
how much we’ve abdicated
our ability to run the country.”

Registration of
NBFCs
made easy
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has simplified the process
of registration of new non-banking finance companies
(NBFCs) by reducing the application form and the checklist of
documents from the existing set of 45 documents to just seven
and in some cases eight.
3838
WWW.WISHESH.COM | JULY 2016
Deposit taking and non-
deposit taking NBFCs would
have separate applications
forms so that the registrations
can be expedited faster.
RBI statement said that, “This
is being done so that the
registration of new NBFCs
would be smoother and
hassle-free. The RBI, may, if
necessary, call for any further
documents to satisfy itself on
the eligibility of the company
seeking registration as NBFC.
In the event of the RBI calling
for further documents, the
applicant must respond
within a stipulated time of one
month.”
“As these companies will not
have access to public fund
and will not have customer
interface, they will be
subjected to less intensive
scrutiny or due diligence,” RBI
said in a note.
“This has been done to make
the process of registration of
new Non Banking Financial
Companies (NBFCs)
“smoother and hassle free””,
RBI said. “Secondly, from now
onwards, there would be two
different types of applications
for non-deposit taking
NBFCs (NBFC-ND) based
on Sources of Funds and
Customer Interface,” it added.
The processing applications
of non-deposit taking NBFCs
would be on the fast-track
mode, as these companies
will not have access to
public fund and will not have
customer interface. They will
be subjected to less intensive
scrutiny and due diligence.
The scrutiny for the deposit
taking NBFCs and those who
have a customer interface
would be more elaborate and
hence require a separate
application form.
RBI has been converging
regulations for NBFCs on
the lines of its banking
sector rules as the difference
between the NBFCs and the
banks get blurred. NBFCs
like banks are now into
infrastructure financing and
housing financing, agriculture
financing and meeting
the funding needs of the
micro, small and medium
enterprises. The changes
in the registration process
of NBFCs is in line with the
announcement made in the
first bi-monthly monetary
policy statement, 2016-17 of
simplifying procedures for the
sector.

Noise around the exit of
RBI Governor
Raghuram Rajan
INFOCUS
4040
WWW.WISHESH.COM | JULY 2016
Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan
has chosen the best and most dignified way out
of a situation that was getting increasingly ugly
by declaring that he will not seek a second term
after his first ends in September. Over the last
few months, his ‘extension’ became the subject of
fevered speculation.
The complaints against
Mr. Rajan varied — they
included the relatively trifling
(his choice of words and
plain-speaking ways), the
debatable but substantive
(his unwillingness to lower
interest rates despite stable
macro-economic indicators),
and the indisputably
ridiculous (his alleged lack of
commitment to India).
Rajan earned encomiums
for his views on several
occasions from international
audiences, but he did not
enjoy the same reception
very often back home in
India.
The Centre’s uneasiness
stemmed from what it
believed was an important
reason for the economy
not taking off as fast as it
could have. The slow pace
of interest rate cuts, a result
of what Mr. Rajan saw as
fresh or rising inflationary
pressures, is on that list.
The central bank’s
crackdown on the
evergreening of loans,
forcing banks to
acknowledge the bad loans
rather than throw more
good money after bad, has
led to record losses across
the public sector banking
system. This has been
another source of friction.
The Centre must remember
that the central bank, by
its very remit, is concerned
about inflation and that the
country needs a Governor
with enough independence
and authority to maintain
a balance between the
aspirations for the growth
and concern about rising
prices. It is also imperative
that the new central bank
chief should have a free
hand in charting a course to
fix bank’s books so that they
can begin lending again.
Mr. Rajan himself have
said that, if the two always
agreed, the public should be
very worried.

TThe Rani of Jhansi – Rani
Lakshmi Bai was one such.
Born on November 19 in
1828, her bravery, patriotism
and martial prowess has
inspired folklore and she has
been remembered in history
as a devoted mother and a
relentless warrior.
Lakshmibai was born on
19 November 1828 in the
holy town of Varanasi into
a Marathi Brahmin family.
She was named Manikarnika
and was nicknamed Manu.
Her father was Moropant
Tambe and her mother
Bhagirathi Sapre (Bhagirathi
Bai). Her parents came from
Maharashtra. Her mother
died when she was four.
Her father worked for a
court for Peshwa of Bithoor
district, who brought up
Manikarnika like his own
daughter. The Peshwa called
her “Chhabili”, which means
“playful”. She was educated
at home and was more
independent in her childhood
than others of her age, her
studies included shooting,
horsemanship, and fencing.
Manikarnika was married
to the Maharaja of Jhansi,
Raja Gangadhar Rao
Newalkar, in May 1842
and was afterwards called
Lakshmibai (or Laxmibai) in
honour of the Hindu goddess
Lakshmi. She gave birth to a
boy, later named Damodar
Rao, in 1851, who died after
four months. The Maharaja
adopted a child called Anand

Rao’s cousin, who was
renamed Damodar Rao, on

died.

the state to its territories.
In March 1854, Lakshmibai
was given Rs. 60,000 and an
annual pension of Rs.5000
and ordered to leave the
palace and the fort. Laxmibai
was firm about protecting the
state of Jhansi.
Rani of Jhansi was
determined not to give up
Jhansi. She strengthened
its defences and assembled
a volunteer army. Women
were also given military
training. Rani’s forces were
joined by warriors including
Gulam Gaus Khan, Dost
Khan, Khuda Baksh, Lala
Bhau Bakshi, Moti Bai,
Sunder-Mundar, Kashi Bai,
Deewan Raghunath Singh
and Deewan Jawahar Singh.
Rani of Jhansi repeatedly
demonstrated that she
was able to swiftly and
efficiently lead her troops
against skirmishes breaking
out in Jhansi. Through this
leadership Lakshmi Bai was
able to keep Jhansi relatively
calm and peaceful in the
midst of the Empire’s unrest.
British troops arrived under
Sir Hugh Rose and laid siege
to Jhansi on 23rd March
1858. Rani of Jhansi along
with her faithful warriors
decided not to surrender.
The fighting continued for
about two weeks. Shelling on
Jhansi was very fierce. In the
Jhansi army women were
also carrying ammunition
and were supplying food to
the soldiers. Rani Lakshmi
Bai herself was inspecting
the defense of the city. She
rallied her troops around her
and fought fiercely against
the British. An army of
20,000, headed by the rebel
leader Tatya Tope, was sent
to relieve Jhansi and to take
Lakshmi Bai to freedom. The
British, though numbering
only 1,540 in the field, were
better trained and disciplined
than the “raw recruits” and
these inexperienced soldiers
turned and fled shortly after
the British began to attack on
the 31st March.
Lakshmi Bai’s forces could

later the British were able
to breach the city walls and
capture the city. Yet Lakshmi
Bai escaped over the wall at
night and fled from the city,
surrounded by her guards,
many of whom were from her
women’s military.
Along with the young
Damodar Rao, Rani
decamped to Kalpi along
with her forces where she
joined other rebel forces,
including those of Tatya
Tope. Rani and Tatya Tope
moved on to Gwalior, where
the combined rebel forces
defeated the army of the
Maharaja of Gwalior after his
armies deserted to the rebel
forces. They then occupied
the strategic fort at Gwalior.
However, on the second day
of fighting, on 18 June 1858,
Rani died.
She died on 18 June, 1858
during the battle for Gwalior
with 8th Hussars that took
place in Kotah-Ki-Serai
near Phool Bagh area
of Gwalior. She donned
warrior’s clothes and rode
into battle to save Gwalior
Fort, about 120 miles west
of Lucknow. General Sir
Hugh Rose commented
that the rani “remarkable for
her beauty, cleverness and
perseverance” had been “the
most dangerous of all the
rebel leaders”.
Because of her bravery,
courage and wisdom and
her progressive views on
women’s empowerment
in 19th century India and
due to her sacrifices, she
became an icon of Indian
independence movement.
Rani was memorialized
in bronze statues at both
Jhansi and Gwalior, both
of which portray her on
horseback. Rani Lakshmi
Bai became a national
heroine and was seen as the
epitome of female bravery in
India.

Padmasana
Best for meditation
4646
WWW.WISHESH.COM | JULY 2016
Padmasana or the Lotus
Pose is an important
meditative asana. In
Padmasana, the legs are
locked together and the
lower body is absolutely
stable. The back and spine
will be straight. This is
perfect for longer periods of
meditation as the body can
be held motionless, with
least distractions. Relaxation
and concentration play an
important role performing
Yog Asanas. Padmasana is
the most easy and suitable
asana for contemplation and
meditation.
The word Padmasana is a
Sanskrit word which means
“lotus flower” so it’s also
known as the “Lotus pose”.
It is so called because of the
lotus- like formation which
made by our legs during this
asana. Padmasana provides
a good workout and is good
for your mind and breathing,
conditions the body and core
and increases flexibility.
If you want to build strength,
muscles need to be
challenged to their max and
while yoga can be strenuous,
it has its limits. Although
using only your body weight
can be challenging when you
first start doing Padmasana
and your muscles quickly
adapt, so the benefits
diminish over time. A regular
practice of this posture aids
in overall blossoming of
the practitioner, just like a
lotus and hence the name
Padmasana.
How to do
1. Sit on the floor
comfortably. Assume the
simple cross legged pose
where the legs are folded.
2. Lift the left leg and place it
on the right thigh.
3. Lift the right leg and place
it over the left leg. The knees
must touch the floor.
4. Pull and adjust the legs
so that soul of the feet face
upwards and the heels are
tucked in at the waist level
near the pelvic bone.
5. Make the spine straight,
broaden your chest (to avoid
stooping) and place the
hands in the gap between the
feet.
6. Place the left palm over
the right palm.
7. Relax the muscles in the
abdomen and chest.
8. The shoulders should be
absolutely relaxed.
9. Breathe slowly and deeply.
10. Maintain this position for
as long as comfortable.
11. Once you have crossed
your threshold of pain,
slowly release the legs and
massage them gently, till the
ache is gone.
Benefits
12. Padmasana is considered
one of the best asanas for
meditation.
13. Awareness of the
breathing process helps to
steady the mind.
14. The spine is kept straight
and this helps to channel
the energy from the lower
spiritual centers or chakras
upwards towards Sahasrara
chakra.
15. The erect spine aids the
free flow of prana along the
spinal cord.
16. Padmasana can tone the
coccygeal and sacral nerves
as the blood flow to the legs
are restricted and redirected
to the abdominal region.
17. Improve digestion.
18. Sitting in Padmasana
can relieve many metal and
emotional problems.
19. Excellent asana for
practicing advanced
pranayama techniques.

Better lifestyle comes with good and healthy food.
Consumption of healthy food which can support
the life style is very important. Engagements
often make people to take shortcuts and endup in

Living a healthy
lifestyle
All humans have to eat food for
growth and maintenance of a
healthy body, but we humans
have many different requirements
as infants, children (kids),
teenagers, young adults, adults
and seniors. Infants may require
feeding every four hours until they
gradually age and begin to take
in more solid foods. Eventually
they develop into the more normal
pattern of eating three times per
day as young kids.
Kids, teenagers, and young adults
often snack between meals.
Snacking is often not limited
to these age groups because
adults and seniors too often do
the same. Hence, food plays
an important role in a healthy
lifestyle.
Below are some of the tips which
can help in having a healthy
lifestyle.
1. Eat three meals a day
(breakfast, lunch, and dinner).
2. Consume fruits, vegetables,
whole grains, and fat-free or low-
fat milk products.
3. Choose lean meats, poultry,
fish, beans, eggs, and nuts.

before sleeping to decrease
gastroesophageal reflux and
weight gain.
10. If a person is angry or
depressed, eating will not
solve these situations and
may make the underlying
problems worse.
11. Avoid rewarding children

pattern may become a lifelong
habit.
12. Avoid heavy meals in the

Enjoying
Relationship
Relationships are hard. Finding somebody you want
to spend time with can be difficult enough, but once
that happens, you’ve got to deal with the task of
maintaining the relationship, keeping things fresh,
finding time for each other, and generally just coming
up with ways to navigate the tricky ups and downs
every partnership faces.
RELATIONSHIP
It might sound obvious, but when
you really allow yourself to listen
and ask questions about what
your partner says, it leads to
better conversations and better
communication.
One of the biggest relationship
tips is to give your undivided
attention, when your partner is
speaking. It’s is one of the most
important things you have to do
for a successful relationship.
Take a step back and figure
out the big things about your
partner, that truly bother you and
approach them from a place of
concern and support.

No relationship can be
successful if you don’t feel
good about yourself, both
inside and out.
Help each other with chores
and other necessary activities
like cooking, cleaning, re-
organizing, etc. Not doing
them when you live together
can create tension and
always doing them can create
unfair expectations. Act as
team of equals.
Sometimes bad days and
bad moods can happen.
Don’t go crazy trying to
make everything better. Just
be supportive and loving,
because just being there at
the end of a bad day can
make it better for both of you.
Creating small rituals can
really help to hold up a couple
because, they become
“your thing.” Whether it’s a
fancy night out during the
holiday season or watching
a certain show, these are the
things that will give you both
something to look forward
to and it’ll bring you closer
together.
Say things that you want to
follow through with, out loud.
It’ll make you work harder to
make them happen. Having
and setting the levels of
reasonable expectations for
your relationship is a healthy
way to keep it strong.
Think of your relationship as
a creative challenge. To keep
the romance fresh and spicy
come up with new date ideas,
new sex positions and new
ways to demonstrate your
love.

Romance
How to
keep it going
5454
WWW.WISHESH.COM | JULY 2016
Romance is the perfect chemistry between two
individuals. It is soft and emotional. A perfect
romance can spice-up the relationship. Lack of
mutual understanding is the main spoiler in a
romantic relationship. There are many things to be
considered for a successful and memorable romance.
There are even funny ways to lure your partner.
Consider these funny
romantic tips for an
enjoyable romance.
1. Give your lover a dozen
roses, with a creative twist.
Give eleven red roses and one
white rose. Attach a note that
reads: “In every bunch there’s
one which stands out and you
are that one.”
2. Get your partner a
wristwatchand inscribe in it - “I
always have time for you.”
3. Attach a $100 bill or giftcard
to a Victoria’s Secret catalog,
along with a note to him saying,
“You choose.”
4. Identify that one pivotal event
that brought the two of you
together. Celebrate that event
every year.
5. Practice even-day / odd-day
romance: On even days it’s
your turn to be romantic and
on odd days it’s your partner’s
turn.
6. After a bubble bath you’ve
prepared for her, wrap her in a
towel that you’ve warmed up in
the dryer.
7. Write your partner a love letter
or poem on one sheet of paper.
Glue it to thin cardboard, cut it
up into puzzle-shaped pieces,
then mail all the pieces. Or, mail
one puzzle piece per day!
8. Collect all the paper strips
(that say “Kisses”) from a couple
hundred Hershey’s Kisses. Fill
a jewelry box with them. Wrap
them up and present it to your
partner. Write a note informing
that the slips are redeemable
coupons.
9. Trophy shops have a wealth
of ideas waiting for you. Just
think of the romantic possibilities
of plaques, medals, ribbons,
nameplates, certificates and
banners. they all can be
personalized, engraved, lettered
or monogrammed and present to
your sweet heart.

Ayodhya
Birth place of Maryadha
Purushotham SriRam
Ayodhya is an ancient city of India,
the old capital of Awadh, in the Faizabad district
of Uttar Pradesh, India. Ayodhya is the birth place
of Lord Sriram and the capital of the ancient
Kosala Kingdom. Ayodhya is situated on the
right bank of the river Sarayu, 555 km east of
New Delhi., just 6 km from Faizabad. Ayodhya is a
popular pilgrim centre.
Ayodhya is pre-eminently a
city of temples yet, all places
of worship here are not only
of Hindu religion. At Ayodhya
several religions have grown and
prospered simultaneously, at
different periods of time. Remnants
of Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism
and Islam can still be found in
Ayodhya. According to Jain
tradition, five Tirthankaras were
born at Ayodhya, including Adinath
(Rishabhadeva) the 1st Tirthankar.
The Brahmanda Purana considers
Ayodhya as one of the six holiest
cities in Hinduism.
History
The name Ayodhya comes
from the Sanskrit word “yudh”,
meaning “fight” or “wage war,”
and it translates to either “not
to be fought” or, less literally,
“unconquerable.” During the
time of Gautama Buddha the city
was called Ayojjha in Pali and
Ayodhya in Sanskrit.
In the first few centuries of the

Common Era it was called
Saketa and was conquered by
the Kushan / Yuezhi Emperor
Kanishka in 127 CE, who
made it the administrative
centre of his eastern
territories. The name occurs
again in Faxian in the early
5th century. It is not clear
when the name changed, but
by the time of the visit of the
Chinese pilgrim monk, Huan
Tsang, in 636 CE, it was
known as Ayodhya.
Buddhist temples, monuments
and centers of learning having
been established here during
the age of the Mauryan
Empire and the Gupta

its glorious peak as known to
history during the reign of the
Guptas over India. This city
was also a significant trade
centre in 600 BC. Historians
have identified this place as
Saketa, a key Buddhist centre
during the 5th century BC.
It is a widely held belief that
Buddha visited Ayodhya on
several occasions.
Ayodhya has a historical
significance for the Jain
community too. This is the
birth place of two important
Jain Tirthankaras who
were born in the early
centuries CE. Jain texts
also stand testimony to the
visit of Mahavir, Jainism’s
last Tirthankar to this city.

Under Mughal rule, it was the

The Hanumangarhi temple
at Ayodhya was built by the
Nawab of Awadh.
Ayodhya was annexed in 1856
by the British rulers. Between
1857 and 1859, this place
was one of the main centers
where the sparks of the first

originated. These sparks
later led to a nationwide

defeated Ibrahim Lodi at
the battle of Panipat and
then the Rajput King of
Chittorgarh, Rana Sangram
Singh at Khanwa, making
pioneering use of cannon
and light cavalry. After these
triumphs, Babur took over a
substantial part of northern
India.
One of his generals, Mir Baki
Khan came to Ayodhya in
1528 and after destroying
a pre-existing temple of
Lord Sriram at the site, built
a Mosque. Mir Baki, after
building the mosque, named
it Babri Masjid.
As per historians, since 1528

there have been at least 76
armed conflicts in which over
300,000 Hindus sacrificed
their lives to restore the Ram
Janma Bhoomi temple.
During Babar’s reign (1528-
1530) itself Hindus launched
4 attacks in which 100,000
people were killed. During
Humayun’s reign (1530-
1556) there were 10 separate
initiatives to regain control.
During Akbar’s reign (1556-
1605) 20 battles were fought
and in order to avoid further
conflict, during the latter part
of his reign Akbar allowed
Hindus to build a platform
known as ‘Ram Chabutra’,
and to install and worship

This practice was later
opposed by Aurungzeb which
resulted in most battles for the
control of the shrine during
his reign. In Aurangzeb’s
reign 30 battles were fought
and one such battle was led
by Guru Gobind Singh in
which Aurangzeb’s army was
defeated. Four years later,
Aurangzeb again attacked
Ayodhya and regained control
after killing 10,000 Hindus.
During Sahdat Ali (1798-

battles. During Nasir-uddin

3 battles were fought. In
Wajid Ali Shah (1847-1857)
period there were 2 battles
and during British Rule (1912-

The Haryanka dynasty was the second ruling dynasty of
Magadha, an ancient kingdom in India, which succeeded
the Barhadratha dynasty. The reign of this dynasty
probably began in the middle of 6th century BCE.
Initially, the capital was Rajagriha. Later, it was shifted
to Pataliputra, near the present day Patna in India. The

Place of positive
energy
Home Temple is an integral part of Indian homes
and most of the homeowner’s takes precaution
of keeping things in line with Vastu.
HOME TEMPLE
Place of positive
Vastu lays down specific
rules and norms regarding
home temple because, if
it is constructed in wrong
place, then inmates will
not get benefited. To make
your veneration and pooja
effective for god’s endless
and constant blessings you
have to build your pooja
room at the proper and Vastu
compliant place.
Home temple should be
designed properly and
cautiously as temples are
not the matter of sacredness,
which emulates positive
energy They also relate the
occupants emotions with
God and cosmos. Therefore
to get positive vibrations and
benefits from pooja, home
temple should be conducive
to Vastu.
Some Vastu tips for
home temple are
Temple should be placed
higher so that God feet must
come to the level of devotee’s
chest.
Keeping God’s idol which
is more than 10 inches is
considered inauspicious.
Always keep some insulation
while praying or sitting in the
temple such as mat or carpet.
Home temple is ideal in wood
while marble constructed
temples are also considered
appropriate.
Wooden temples should
always have dome at the top.
Do not keep temple on the
floor directly because this
means disrespect of Gods.
Always lay thick cloth on
the floor before keeping the
temple on it.
Dia in the temple should be lit
in South-east.
Do no keep late ancestor’s
picture in home temple
because this way we only
disrespect God and cosmos.

Verse meaning
The wise, engaged in
devotional service, take
refuge in the Lord and free
themselves from the cycle of
birth and death by renouncing
the fruits of action in the
material world. In this way they
can attain that state beyond all
miseries.
Explanation
Those who are factually
situated in the spiritual
intelligence, perform activities
as a matter of duty, free from
conceptions of gain and
loss, unconcerned about the
resultant rewards. They are
assuredly delivered from the
bondage of birth and death in
the material existence and are
liberated to the spiritual realms.
Offer all actions to the
Supreme Lord without desiring
rewards. Endowed with the
spiritual intelligence and
comprehension of reality, one
attains the supreme stage.
To get there, the performance
of actions with equanimity is
the way to wisdom and is the
means for assured liberation.
Those with the spiritual
intelligence and who
crelinquish all fruitive desires
for the results of all actions,
perform in righteousness
activities as an offering unto
the Supreme Lord are blessed
with self-realisation and will
be released from the bondage
of birth and death and being
liberated to attain the eternal.
Owing to ignorance, one does
not know that this material
world is a miserable place. Out
of ignorance, less intelligent
persons try to adjust to the
situation by fruitive activities,
thinking that resultant actions
will make them happy. They
do not know that no kind of
material body anywhere within
the universe can give life
without miseries.
The miseries of life, namely
birth, death, old age and
diseases, are present
everywhere within the
material world. But one
who understands his real
constitutional position as the
eternal servitor of the Lord
and thus knows the position of
the Personality of Godhead,
engages himself in the
transcendental loving service
of the Lord.
Consequently he becomes
qualified to enter into the
Vaikuntha planets, where there
is neither material or miserable
life, nor the influence of time
and death.
Consequently he becomes qualified
to enter into the Vaikuntha planets,
where there is neither material or

and death.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister
Mehbooba Mufti has won the Anantnag
by-election comfortably by defeating
her nearest rival of the Congress by over
12,000 votes.
The by-election was
necessitated due to the death
of the then Chief Minister
Mufti Muhammed Sayeed
who has represented the
constituency in the Jammu
and Kashmir Assembly.
Sayeed passed away in New
Delhi on January 7 after a
brief illness.
Ms Mufti, currently a
n MP from Anantnag Lok
Sabha constituency, faced
a three-corner contest in the
by-poll with Hilal Shah of the
Congress and Iftikar Misger of
the National Conference.
All opposition parties
including National Conference
boycotted counting after
allegations that Electronic
Voting Machines (EVMs)
were tampered with.
Protesting inside the counting
centre, Congress candidate
Hilal Ahmad Shah said,
“Machines were without seal
and signatures on them didn’t
match. It’s a brazen election
rigging by ruling party and
administration is party to this
rigging.”
“When we raised our voice
the district magistrate
threatened to put us behind
the bars,” said the Congress
candidate as he stormed out
of the centre.
Denying allegations, District
Magistrate Abid Rashid Shah,
who is also district election
officer, said that, “They tried
to break an EVM and when
we tried to discipline them
they started protesting.”
The total number of
registered voters in the
Anantnag assembly segment
is 84,067 -- 42,840 males and
41,227 females, there were
102 polling stations in the
constituency.
Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) leader Mehbooba
Mufti, who became Chief
Minister on April 4, polled
17,700 votes while Congress’
Hilal Ahmad Shah managed
only 5,600 votes of the nearly
28,500 votes polled.
Mehbooba Mufti was sworn
in as the first woman Chief
Minister of the state on April
4. It is mandatory for a Chief
Minister or any other minister
in the state to become a
member of either house of
state’s bicameral legislature
within six months of being
sworn in.

Story :
Te3n is the story of John Biswas
(Amitabh Bachchan) whose
granddaughter gets kidnapped.
Left with no choice, John searches
for her for over eight years and
he still doesn’t get exhausted.
Searching for a small clue, this
old man repeats the evidence.
At this point of time, John hears
about a similar kidnapping case
which brings lot of curiosity in
John. Sarita Sarkar (Vidya Balan)
is the officer in charge for the
missing case and Father Martin
Das (Nawazzudin Siddiqui) who
is a former cop helps John in the
process. The rest of Te3n is if
John finds the real culprit behind
the kidnap and gets the mystery
solved. Watch Te3n to know about
the complete film.
Analysis :
The first half of Te3n starts on a
slow note and gets interesting after
all the characters gets introduced.
The movie gets interesting after it
moves into the story and the pre-
interval episodes catch the needed
pace. The interval scenes have
been interesting and they keep the
film lively. On the whole the first
half of Te3n makes a decent watch.
The second half of the film has
a completely different story to
reveal. The movie lacks the needed
gripping narration throughout that
kills the entire thriller. The complete
film has been dragged and is
predictable from all the corners.
The climax kills the complete
film as it seems irrelevant and
misses the needed logic. On the
whole Te3n falls flat because
of the confused and completely
predictable second half.
Final Word:
With predictable narration and the
logicless climax that kills the film.
Te3n is a film that can be ignored.

Story :
Udta Punjab is based on the
drug abuse in Punjab which has
become a serious threat to the
society. Tommy Singh (Shahid
Kapoor) is a rockstar who is a drug
addict and he loses his passion of
singing because of the addictions.
Sarjat Singh (Diljit Dosanjh) is
a cop, Preet Sahni (Kareena
Kapoor) is a doctor and Pinky
(Alia Bhatt) is a migrant labourer.
Sarjit’s younger brother gets
addicted to drugs and the reveals
many interesting things about the
drug mafia. The rest of the film is
how all the lead characters are
related to the drug abuse and
about their contributions. Watch
Udta Punjab to know about the
movie.
Analysis :
The first half of the film starts
with lot of interest and the lead
characters in the movie have been
well narrated. The movie takes the
much needed pace after the movie
gets into the story. The drug abuse
and how the youth have been
getting addicted to drugs have
been well narrated. The songs
have been apt and they brought out
the much needed pain and feel in
the film. The interval episodes bring
up lot of interest in the audience
and on the whole the first half of
Udta Punjab has been decent but
not completely impressive.
The second half of the movie
loses the much needed grip and
interesting narration. The major
plot has been side tracked and
the unwanted issues have been
discussed much. The complete
second half has been a huge
failure and it will end up as a huge
disappointment. The climax of the
movie has been completely clichéd
and unexpected.
Final Word:
Udta Punjab lacks an interesting
narration for an unusual script
which makes the film fall flat. The
performances by the lead actors
alone fails to make much impact.
Udta Punjab can be given a huge
skip.
The first half
of the film
starts with lot
of interest
and the lead
characters
in the movie
have been
well narrated.

  • 11. The count used in weaving gives the softness and hardness of the fabric. Count means the number of threads used in the length and breadth for weaving known as warp and weft respectively. In Rasipuram 5600 threads are used in warp. The width of the saree comes to 51 inches. Each and every thread of the Rasipuram handloom saree is hand woven. Each weaver works from home with all his / her family members helping in different steps of the process. It requires approximately 4-8 days (depending on the variety of saree) of continuous efforts for weaving a saree. Dyeing The process of manufacturing a Rasipuram handloom Saree starts with dyeing the silk yarn. Dyeing is the coloring process of the yarn by dipping the yarn in the boiled color water in very high temperature, higher the temperature durability of colour is also higher. Dyeing of the yarn is done making sure that the color is spread uniformly throughout the Handloom industry The village is once well known for handloom silk products. Once famous for its handloom products now flourishing with powerlooms. The traditional weavers are very much upset due to the decline of handlooms. Rasipuram is famous for its silk handloom products. Rasipuram handlooms are well known for the durability of the colours used in the yarn. The mixture of colour gives durability. Rasipuram is a Municipality in the district of Salem in India. It is situated 25 Km from Salem and 25 Km from Namakkal district. This is rather a small village with the population engaged in agriculture and handloom weaving. The people here speak only Tamil. • 12. yarn and it does not affect the quality of the yarn. The coloring process is a very crucial step in getting a colourful saree. The colours are applied as per the specifications of the designers and also some times as per the orders from customers who orders for a designer Saree. After coloring, the silk yarn is dried in shade. Drying yarn in sun can be harmful to yarn. Weaving After dyeing and drying the yarn, it is converted to thread and is loaded as warp which is called pavvu and then it is loaded into the loom for actual weaving. It is also rolled over small sticks to use for wept. One pavvu can make 6 sarees. It will take 2 months to complete weaving of one pavvu. Rasipuram handloom sarees are traditionally woven in the interlocked-weft technique. Design The design required on the saree is initially drawn in a computer and then punched into a card and then these cards are loaded in the Jacard in the loom. Jacard is a box like structure which is fixed in the top of the loom. There will be needles in the Jacard which will read the punched cards and control the weaving of weft. Declining Handloom industry In Rasipuram silk handloom sarees are weaved. Due to the high cost of silk yarn now the weavers of Rasipuram are struggling to continue in the profession. Now one can see only very few weavers weaving Rasipuram silk handloom products. Once famous Rasipuram Handloom products are now becoming extinct due to the high cost of silk yarn and low wages prevailing in the industry. Previously Rasipuram was full of talented weavers who used to do magic in the looms to produce the best handloom products. Now you can see only a small number of weavers in this profession and most of the handlooms are being converted to powerlooms. There is an emergency situation to take necessary action to protect The design required on the saree is initially drawn in a computer and then punched into a card and then these cards are loaded in the Jacard in the loom. Jacard is a box like structure which is fixed in the top of the loom. There will be needles in the Jacard which will read the punched cards and control the weaving of weft. INDIAN DIASPORA FINE ART 1212 WWW.WISHESH.COM | JULY 2016
  • 13. the traditional Rasipuram handloom products. Weaver’s voice The weavers of Rasipuram blame the mushrooming powerlooms for the high cost of silk yarn. The weavers demands a responsible role by the government to protect the handloom industry by providing subsidy for yarn and a rehabilitation package for the weavers who are suffering due to high cost of yarn and low wages prevailing in the industry. They hope that if the government takes the responsibility to support the handloom industry by way of showcasing and marketing the handloom products, the industry can survive or else the present situation has started the end of handloom industry in Rasipuram. The new generation is not interested in the profession due to the hard labour and long hours to bring out the finished product, even the returns are not lucrative to make them stay in the profession. Due to the non availability of weavers the handloom industry is fastly shifting to power looms. JULY 2016 | WWW.WISHESH.COM
  • 14. INDIAN DIASPORA TRADITION T ways of worship, and marriage costumes all add meaning to their way of living. The main occupation of the Jaunsari is agriculture, which they supplement by raising buffaloes, cows, goats, and sheep. Their principal crops are potatoes and rice and a variety of other vegetables . They follow a system of plot rotation in which the ground is allowed to lie fallow. Wet rice cultivation is done during the monsoon season. Dry rice, maize, millet and wheat are raised on the drier land. The villagers live on a simple diet of milk, lentils, a few vegetables, some fruit and occasionally meat. The Jaunsari caste system has only three categories - landowners, servants (those involved in a service occupation or art), and Brahmins (Hindu priests). The Jaunsari community traces its origin to the Pandavas of Mahabharat. The five Pandava brothers having one wife. Traditionally, Jaunsari have followed the custom of brothers sharing wives. The Jaunsaris have practised polyandry, where one woman will have more than one husband. Some anthropologists assert that the Jaunsaris are the last surviving ‘pure’ descendants of the Aryans. Polyandry and polygamy are not the only facets of the colourful lifestyle of the Jaunsaris—their dances, Jaunsari tribes with puranic descendance The Jaunsari Pahari live primarily in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh. Everyone was surprised and frightened. Apparently the cart had got destroyed by itself. All the boys who witnessed the feat said with absolute certainty that the cart was destroyed by the kick of the baby. But the elders could not believe their words. Yasoda thought that probably the child might have been possessed by a ghost which in turn had broken the cart, Immediately she called some priests to chant Mantras to exorcise the ghost. But the baby was least affected by these things. He was once again playing merrily looking with his bewitching smile at everyone. The fact was that an Asura had taken the form of a cart on the advice of Kamsa. He had come to Gokula with the intention of running away with the child. But the Lord, in the form of a baby, knew everything and with a kick of his foot destroyed the cart and the Asura. The name of the Asura was Sakatasura. She wanted to celebrate the occasion of the first taking out of the child from the house. She invited all the ladies of Gokula. They all went to the banks of the Yamuna. In the midst of the sound of drums, music and chanting of Mantras the child was given a ceremonial bath. Yasoda found her son too tried and sleepy after the bath. It was very hot. There was a big unyoked cart standing nearby. Yasoda placed the cradle under the cart and gently laid the baby in the cradle. She busied herself in serving the large number of guests who had come to her residence. The child got up after a while and started crying. But in the noise of the crowd, mother Yasoda did not hear the cry. The child became very angry and began to kick with his tiny legs. What a surprise! At the kickings of those tiny legs, the cart shook and collapsed with a great sound. The wheels separated from the axle. On the cart The litle krishna was fast growing up. He was now three months old. He was trying to turn over on his belly. He even attempted to crawl. There was great joy in the heart of Yasoda when she saw her son lying on his stomach and smiling at her. JULY 2016 | WWW.WISHESH.COM

Others see the issue as an indication that Brussels has too much say over the Britain in general, that the EU is unaccountable and that membership, at £8 billion a year ($11.6 billion), is too costly. Under EU rules, anyone from the bloc can live and work in any EU member state. Those lobbying for Britain’s exit say that is the only way the country can control its borders. Immigration in the U.K. has risen sharply over the past decade or so, particularly in the wake of the EU’s expansion eastward to include countries such as Poland, Lithuania and Romania. Its relatively strong economic performance has drawn many EU citizens looking to escape the sluggishness that has beset the wider region. Boston, a medieval town some 110 miles north of London, has seen the biggest percentage of increase in immigrants between 2001 and 2011 of anywhere in England and Wales, with numbers increasing nearly sixfold since the early 2000s, according to Migration Observatory, an independent analysis center at the University of Oxford. Immigration critics say that it is contributing to the erosion of British traditions, values and way of life, while placing pressure on Britain’s public resources and infrastructure. “There are good ways of controlling migration, and one of them is the important rules we’re bringing in so people don’t get instant access to our welfare system,” Mr. Cameron said in Parliament. “But there are bad ways of controlling immigration. Leaving the single market and wrecking our economy is certainly one of them.” “Immigration is a powerful symbol of our lack of control,” says Boris Johnson, London’s former mayor and the most prominent politician campaigning for the U.K. to leave the EU. “It shows just how much we’ve abdicated our ability to run the country.” There are good ways of controlling migration, and one of them is the important rules we’re bringing in so people don’t get instant access to our welfare system JULY 2016 | WWW.WISHESH.COM

In the event of the RBI calling for further documents, the applicant must respond within a stipulated time of one month.” “As these companies will not have access to public fund and will not have customer interface, they will be subjected to less intensive scrutiny or due diligence,” RBI said in a note. “This has been done to make the process of registration of new Non Banking Financial Companies (NBFCs) “smoother and hassle free””, RBI said. “Secondly, from now onwards, there would be two different types of applications for non-deposit taking NBFCs (NBFC-ND) based on Sources of Funds and Customer Interface,” it added. The processing applications of non-deposit taking NBFCs would be on the fast-track mode, as these companies will not have access to public fund and will not have customer interface. • 41. Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan has chosen the best and most dignified way out of a situation that was getting increasingly ugly by declaring that he will not seek a second term after his first ends in September. Over the last few months, his ‘extension’ became the subject of fevered speculation. The complaints against Mr. Rajan varied — they included the relatively trifling (his choice of words and plain-speaking ways), the debatable but substantive (his unwillingness to lower interest rates despite stable macro-economic indicators), and the indisputably ridiculous (his alleged lack of commitment to India). Rajan earned encomiums for his views on several occasions from international audiences, but he did not enjoy the same reception very often back home in India. The Centre’s uneasiness stemmed from what it believed was an important reason for the economy not taking off as fast as it could have. The slow pace of interest rate cuts, a result of what Mr. Rajan saw as fresh or rising inflationary pressures, is on that list. The central bank’s crackdown on the evergreening of loans, forcing banks to acknowledge the bad loans rather than throw more good money after bad, has led to record losses across the public sector banking system. This has been another source of friction. The Centre must remember that the central bank, by its very remit, is concerned about inflation and that the country needs a Governor with enough independence and authority to maintain a balance between the aspirations for the growth and concern about rising prices. It is also imperative that the new central bank chief should have a free hand in charting a course to fix bank’s books so that they can begin lending again. Mr. Rajan himself have said that, if the two always agreed, the public should be very worried. JULY 2016 | WWW.WISHESH.COM

Rani’s forces were joined by warriors including Gulam Gaus Khan, Dost Khan, Khuda Baksh, Lala Bhau Bakshi, Moti Bai, Sunder-Mundar, Kashi Bai, Deewan Raghunath Singh and Deewan Jawahar Singh. Rani of Jhansi repeatedly demonstrated that she was able to swiftly and efficiently lead her troops against skirmishes breaking out in Jhansi. Through this leadership Lakshmi Bai was able to keep Jhansi relatively calm and peaceful in the midst of the Empire’s unrest. British troops arrived under Sir Hugh Rose and laid siege to Jhansi on 23rd March 1858. Rani of Jhansi along with her faithful warriors decided not to surrender. The fighting continued for about two weeks. Shelling on Jhansi was very fierce. In the Jhansi army women were also carrying ammunition and were supplying food to the soldiers. Rani Lakshmi Bai herself was inspecting the defense of the city. She rallied her troops around her and fought fiercely against the British. • 47. Padmasana or the Lotus Pose is an important meditative asana. In Padmasana, the legs are locked together and the lower body is absolutely stable. The back and spine will be straight. This is perfect for longer periods of meditation as the body can be held motionless, with least distractions. Relaxation and concentration play an important role performing Yog Asanas. Padmasana is the most easy and suitable asana for contemplation and meditation. The word Padmasana is a Sanskrit word which means “lotus flower” so it’s also known as the “Lotus pose”. It is so called because of the lotus- like formation which made by our legs during this asana. Padmasana provides a good workout and is good for your mind and breathing, conditions the body and core and increases flexibility. If you want to build strength, muscles need to be challenged to their max and while yoga can be strenuous, it has its limits. Although using only your body weight can be challenging when you first start doing Padmasana and your muscles quickly adapt, so the benefits diminish over time. A regular practice of this posture aids in overall blossoming of the practitioner, just like a lotus and hence the name Padmasana. How to do 1. Sit on the floor comfortably. Assume the simple cross legged pose where the legs are folded. 2. Lift the left leg and place it on the right thigh. 3. Lift the right leg and place it over the left leg. The knees must touch the floor. 4. Pull and adjust the legs so that soul of the feet face upwards and the heels are tucked in at the waist level near the pelvic bone. 5. Make the spine straight, broaden your chest (to avoid stooping) and place the hands in the gap between the feet. 6. Place the left palm over the right palm. 7. Relax the muscles in the abdomen and chest. 8. The shoulders should be absolutely relaxed. 9. Breathe slowly and deeply. 10. Maintain this position for as long as comfortable. 11. Once you have crossed your threshold of pain, slowly release the legs and massage them gently, till the ache is gone. Benefits 12. Padmasana is considered one of the best asanas for meditation. 13. Awareness of the breathing process helps to steady the mind. 14. The spine is kept straight and this helps to channel the energy from the lower spiritual centers or chakras upwards towards Sahasrara chakra. 15. The erect spine aids the free flow of prana along the spinal cord. 16. Padmasana can tone the coccygeal and sacral nerves as the blood flow to the legs are restricted and redirected to the abdominal region. 17. Improve digestion. 18. Sitting in Padmasana can relieve many metal and emotional problems. 19. Excellent asana for practicing advanced pranayama techniques. JULY 2016 | WWW.WISHESH.COM

All the administrative decisions were taken by this Parishad. Of all these states, Kosala, Vatsa, Avanti and Magadha were the most important ones. Pradyota became king of Avanti ending the Brhadratha Dynasty and commencing the Haryanka Dynasty of Magadha. The Haryanka king Bimbsara was responsible for expanding the boundries of his kingdom through matrimonial alliances and conquest. Bimbsara was the contemporary to Buddha. Bimbsara was imprisoned and killed by his successor, Ajatasatru, under whose rule, the dynasty reached its largest extent. JULY 2016 | WWW.WISHESH.COM

  • 85. Verse meaning The wise, engaged in devotional service, take refuge in the Lord and free themselves from the cycle of birth and death by renouncing the fruits of action in the material world. In this way they can attain that state beyond all miseries. Explanation Those who are factually situated in the spiritual intelligence, perform activities as a matter of duty, free from conceptions of gain and loss, unconcerned about the resultant rewards. They are assuredly delivered from the bondage of birth and death in the material existence and are liberated to the spiritual realms. Offer all actions to the Supreme Lord without desiring rewards. Endowed with the spiritual intelligence and comprehension of reality, one attains the supreme stage. To get there, the performance of actions with equanimity is the way to wisdom and is the means for assured liberation. Those with the spiritual intelligence and who crelinquish all fruitive desires for the results of all actions, perform in righteousness activities as an offering unto the Supreme Lord are blessed with self-realisation and will be released from the bondage of birth and death and being liberated to attain the eternal. Owing to ignorance, one does not know that this material world is a miserable place. Out of ignorance, less intelligent persons try to adjust to the situation by fruitive activities, thinking that resultant actions will make them happy. They do not know that no kind of material body anywhere within the universe can give life without miseries. The miseries of life, namely birth, death, old age and diseases, are present everywhere within the material world. But one who understands his real constitutional position as the eternal servitor of the Lord and thus knows the position of the Personality of Godhead, engages himself in the transcendental loving service of the Lord. Consequently he becomes qualified to enter into the Vaikuntha planets, where there is neither material or miserable life, nor the influence of time and death. • 87. T Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti has won the Anantnag by-election comfortably by defeating her nearest rival of the Congress by over 12,000 votes. The by-election was necessitated due to the death of the then Chief Minister Mufti Muhammed Sayeed who has represented the constituency in the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly. Sayeed passed away in New Delhi on January 7 after a brief illness. Ms Mufti, currently a n MP from Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency, faced a three-corner contest in the by-poll with Hilal Shah of the Congress and Iftikar Misger of the National Conference. All opposition parties including National Conference boycotted counting after allegations that Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) were tampered with. Protesting inside the counting centre, Congress candidate Hilal Ahmad Shah said, “Machines were without seal and signatures on them didn’t match. It’s a brazen election rigging by ruling party and administration is party to this rigging.” “When we raised our voice the district magistrate threatened to put us behind the bars,” said the Congress candidate as he stormed out of the centre. Denying allegations, District Magistrate Abid Rashid Shah, who is also district election officer, said that, “They tried to break an EVM and when we tried to discipline them they started protesting.” The total number of registered voters in the Anantnag assembly segment is 84,067 -- 42,840 males and 41,227 females, there were 102 polling stations in the constituency. Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Mehbooba Mufti, who became Chief Minister on April 4, polled 17,700 votes while Congress’ Hilal Ahmad Shah managed only 5,600 votes of the nearly 28,500 votes polled. Mehbooba Mufti was sworn in as the first woman Chief Minister of the state on April 4.
