is a conference for medical professionals – PAs, NPs, physicians and
others, offering broad-based education on a variety of topics, as well as
hands-on training opportunities.
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the WAPA CME Committee, you are cordially invited to join us in
Madison for the Spring CME Conference, April 1-3, at the Concourse Hotel &
Governor’s Club. We are pleased to offer a newly expanded program, offering
up to 22 CME credits.
Engage yourself with 2 hours of training on motivational interviewing for
substance use disorders.Choose from a menu of hands-on workshops covering
everything from dental care to women’s health topics.
Enrich your mind with exciting tracks, including a full-day behavioral health
track on Wednesday and a women’s health track on Thursday. Select lectures
covering a variety of primary care topics, including diabetes medication,
smoking cessation, hyperlipidemia and obesity. Looking for education on
acute care? Check out sessions on bedside echocardiogram, pancreatitis and
emergency psychiatry.
Explore your networking opportunities and your state capital! The conference
will feature expanded networking opportunities (more details to come!) to
make connections and socialize with friends and colleagues.
Besides being our State’s capital, the city of Madison has rich culture, history
and entertainment. Get the most of your conference by visiting historic Madison
destinations, such as the Capitol Building, Madison Children’s Museum or the
Allen Centennial Botanical Gardens.
We hope to see you in Madison!
Sincerely,

Dental Pain and Infection Control Workshop I & II (cost: free)
Thursday, April 4, 8:30-10:30 am & 3:00-5:00 pm
Get them out of pain, get the infection under control, and get them to a
dentist. With over 18,000 patients a year showing up in Wisconsin EDs and
urgent care, dental pain has reached epidemic proportions. We’ll share
information on The Wisconsin Dental Pain Protocol, which includes an
evidence-based clinical algorithm on non-opioid and opioid pain control,
local anesthetics, and antibiotic prescribing specific to presenting infections.
The majority of the session will be a hands-on training on local anesthetics.
We’ll be gloving and masking up, sticking our hands in each other’s mouths,
identifying anatomic landmarks, and making local anesthetic nerve blocks
and infiltrations simple. Those interested will also be able to practice on
each other or on your instructors. That’s right, if the session is boring, you
can take your revenge.
Women’s Health Workshop (cost: $70)
Thursday, April 4, 1:00-3:00 pm
This workshop is specifically designed for PAs working in gynecology or
primary care but is also open to students and providers in other specialties.
You will learn the practice and skills needed for Nexplanon insertion and
removal, IUD insertion, and endometrial biopsy and will practice these
techniques on models. This workshop will be led by women’s health
specialists and product consultants. Upon completion of the course, you
will receive a Nexplanon training certificate.
