2. What is the purpose?
• The genre of horror is to exploit a negative emotional reaction via the viewers by
playing on the audiences primal fears. horror films have a vast continuum ranging
featured scenes that scare the viewer. the most common themes are; macabre and
supernatural.
• The ways in which the producers gain ideas for a horror film is to exploit the
audiences nightmares, fears and the unknown. these are mainly based or provoked
upon an evil force, event, commonly supernatural coming into the everyday life. the
most featured aspects include; ghosts, aliens, zombies etc...

4. An Effective Horror Film - Saw V
• Through out the film the lighting is low key this is used to play on the viewer’s
minds because their vision is obscured.
• Saw V is a slasher horror which is effective, this is because Saw V uses alot of mise-en-scene such as a mask to make characters look scarier thanthey actually are, this is used to play on the viewer’s fears.
Saw V uses a range of different of sound tracks through out
the film. They’re used to build up suspense and get into the
viewers minds that something scary is going to happen in the
new few scenes.
