It tends to be the virus theme. • Normally the theme of zombie films are one of the above, accompanied by a mixture of smaller themes. • ‘Cabin in the woods’ proves this by having ancient beliefs integrated into the setting.This all plays a part towards the main sacrifice that occurs right at the end.

Camera • Horror filmstend to position the camera at an low angle when looking at a zombie to emphasise that it’s a threat to the protagonists at the time. • They also use long shots to show the approaching horde to emphasise how big the horde is, that they’re a threat and to show they’re slowly approaching the survivors. • In other films they would use high angle shots when the survivors are up high when looking down at the zombies to show how many zombies there are and to create the narrative enigma: how are they going to get out of it?

Sound • Horror filmstend to use screams and shouts to emphasise the danger that the protagonist is in. • They also use non-diegetic music to add excitement and make the scene more intense. • They use gunshots and the sounds of zombies being hit by melee weapons to make it more realistic for the audience. • Films might even use the silence to emphasise the absence of silence which connotes that they’re no humans around.

Editing • Horror filmstend to use fast cuts to connote that there’s danger and there is a lack of control or advantage in the struggle. • They also would use slow, long cuts to make the audience feel calm instead of making them feel uncomfortable to emphasise there’s no danger at this time. • Possibly, they would use montages when someone is being attacked to make it more thrilling for the audience. • They might use temporal ellipsis which slows the film down to let the audience enjoy the action more and to let it last longer.

Survivors would have casual or military clothing depending on their past or which group they have joined. • Lighting: Zombie films would be in dark atmospheres to create a dark mood. Preferably, at night time or in a isolated place.This would be done to scare the audience and assume something bad is going to happen. • Actors/Action: The actors would look serious and may carry guns as there is an apocalypse which fortifies the audience that they might always be in danger. Zombies would move fast or slow than the humans to scare the audience or to make them more believable.
- 17. Mise en scene •Make-up/hair: The facial appearances of zombies would have bite marks, cuts, blood on their face and brightly lit eyes. Survivors would look clean with no blood or brightly lit eyes. • Props: The props used would be guns to emphasise that they’re in a zombie apocalypse and that they’re in danger.They might use spot lights, trip wires to alert the group there might be a possible threat. • Setting:The setting of zombie films would be in a dark area, on an isolated island or an underground facility. A location where the survivors are in peril or it would based around a secure base under attack from zombies.
- 18. Conclusion • To conclude,Zombie films like to show you the effect an apocalypse has on the world and how it can change it permanently. • They also like you to sense the threat of zombies when protagonists are entering an eerie location where there is no sign of life.
