This lesson plan is for a biology class on biodiversity. It includes 3 levels of biodiversity: gene diversity, species diversity, and ecosystem diversity. Examples of each are given. The lesson will introduce vocabulary related to biodiversity and have students practice pronouncing the terms. Students will be divided into groups to discuss examples of biodiversity using a silent card shuffle activity. They will then present their examples to the class. The lesson aims to help students understand and explain the different levels of biodiversity.

V. Learning Materials
1. Content Materials:
A. Biodiversity
Biodiversity refers to the variety and variability of life on Earth. It is typically
measures variation at the genetic, the species, and the ecosystem level. It can be seen by
looking the variation of the living things’ shape, size, color, and other physiological factors.
1. Gene Diversity
Genes is a heredity material in a chromosome that controls of the living things’
characteristic. Genes in living things’ body basically are same, but the arrangement of each
are different. That is what we called genotype and the phenotype. Genotype is the type of
gene arrangement possessed by the living things, e.g. two girls with curly hair; they have
the different genotype. Then, phenotype is the expression results characteristic of a gene
that is visible, e.g. a brown leaf color, green leaf color, the shape of the leaf, etc.
4. The example of gene that is easy to find is the variation of koi fish colors.
2. Species Diversity
Species is a basic unit of classification and is defined as a group of similar
organisms that mate and produce offspring’s with one another and thus, share a
common lineage. The numbers of species of plants and animals that are present in a
region constitutes its species diversity. The example of species diversity that is easy to
understand is the variety found in the cat family (family falidae). They consist of cats,
tigers, lions, cheetahs, etc.
3. Ecosystem Diversity
There are a large variety of different ecosystems on earth, which have their own
complement of distinctive interlinked species based on the differences in the habitat.
Ecosystem diversity can be described for a specific geographical region, or a political
entity such as a country or a state.
5. The example of pond ecosystem
