2. COLOUR AND IMAGE
• Throughout the whole process of creating my music video, digipak and magazine
advert, I decided to keep the theme of space, dreaming and childishness the same. The
way in which I went about this was by having as close as possible the same colour
scheme and theme throughout all the in the scene of the music video, digipak and
magazine advert. The reason why I decide to do this is because I believe that it allows
the target audience to easily identify and recognise the product brand. This in turn
creates recognition for the artist. I decided that the artist’s name should be written in
the same space theme font as evident in the music video. The reason why I wanted to
do this is because I believed that it would make it easier for the audience to identify
with the artist.
3. STILL COLOUR AND IMAGE…
• Due to the fact that “Fireflies” would be the artist’s first music video, I elected to
include props and associated images with the theme and meaning of the song being
childishness, space and dreaming which is originally evident in the main product.
Goodwin’s Theory of “ Star Iconography” furhter underlines the need for the main
artist to be evident in all products. The theory suggest that the artist needs to be
evident in the majority of its merchandising and branding in order for the audience to
be able to relate to the artist. Taking into consideration this theory, I decided to make
the artist evident in the majority of products, in order for the target audience to
identify with the artist.
4. ARTIST IDENTITY
• The main inspiration for my artist was “ Owl City and La Roux”. The reason why this is
because both the artists have an outgoing different personality that I wanted my artist
to be associated with. Electro-Pop artists normally wear clothes and use special effects
to make their clothes seem different. Taking this into consideration, I decided to make
my artist to wear clothes that the middle class would wear. My artist is seen wearing
the same clothing throughout the music video, digipak and magazine advert even
though his face is not seen in all of them. In electro-pop artist culture, the clothes that
the artist wear are normally middle class attire that have special effects to enhance the
attire that they are wearing. The reason why I did this is because I believe that the
costume worn by the artist can be something that the target audience can associate
the the artist with.
5. STILL ARTIST IDENTITY
• The performance style of La Roux is very outgoing but at the same time conservative
outgoing. La Roux in the majority of her music video does very conservative
movements which makes the music video conservative but, the use of special effects
makes the music video at the same time very outgoing. La Roux is well know for these
particular music videos. The same associations that are made about La Roux, are the
same associations that I want to be made about my artist. The way in which I did this
was by having loads of special effects evident in the music video but the actions of the
music video are very conservative.
6. LOCATION
• The location in which my music video is filmed fits the theme of music and themes of
the song. The main themes of the song are; space childishness and dreaming. Taking
into consideration of the song I decided to make the main location of the music video
a sitting room full of toys. The second location that I used for the music video was
space. The way in which I created this space like location was by using green screening.
By having these two locations for my music video, I believe that it will make it easier
for viewers of the music video to understand the meaning of the song and also the
events happening the music video.
7. LOCATION REASONS
• One of the main reason why I decided to use these two locations for my music video is
because I believe it follows the conventions of electro-pop music videos . Those
convections being that it is relatable to target audience and also that it is relatable to
the audience but at the same time has a lot of special effects that enhance the music
video and artist . I used these locations to further emphasis the main theme of the
artist first song. The way in which I decided to do this was by having images of toys,
space and the artist evident throughout the digipak and magazine advert.
8. FONT
• The font that I used in my music video, are very similar to the font that is evident in
the digipak and the magazine advert. The reason why I decided to keep the font the
same style of font is because I believe that it reflects well the themes that song itself
conveys .
• Another reason why I decided to use the this particular font is because it is a unique
font style that has not been used by any artist. The fact that this is the case makes it
easier for the target audience to identify with the artist and separate him from others
that might do the same genre of music as him.
9. CONCLUSION
• In all, I do believe that the combination of ancillary task and main product product
work well together. I also believe that there is an ongoing theme through my music
video, magazine and digipak that will make it easy for my target audience to identify
with. If there was anything that I would improve on if had the chance to would be
exploring the theme of childishness even more so that I could make it more evident
throughout the music video. Another thing that I would improve on would be the
number of technologies that is used in order to create the product. So I could have
possibly used new technologies such as Windows Movie maker.
