2. The title of the film
I feel that this is an average title. This is
because it does not catch the eye when
you take a first glance, or does not
represent the horror genre in any way,
shape or form. Despite this, It has a good
backdrop of a black shadow, it is very
clear as you can exactly see what it says
and is big and bold so again, you are
able to see the title clearly. I feel that we
could’ve improved this title because it is
a premiere pro basic and does not reflect
the horror genre at all.
3. Setting/Location
I feel that these locations were very good. This is because the weather reflected the mood of a horror
genre in the first screenshot and the hybrid genre of comedy in the second screenshot where it is
sunny. The settings of the two locations were also very good. They were quiet unusual in a sense that
they weren’t the usual graveyard, forest, normal conventions of a horror genre, but were near an
estate which evolves around the whole story. We did not want to have the basic of a horror genre
because this happens in every horror film and because we decided on having a hybrid with the
location as well. This turned out to be very good and was successful.
4. Costumes and props
The left screenshot shows the two main characters wearing basic, everyday clothes. This is good for the film as we
no not want the characters to be abnormal and different to what films are normally used to. The right screenshot
is a very good example of the costume and props in this film. The left character has his hood up and a foam sword,
indicating he is up to something wrong. The right character is hiding his face by wearing a mask and using a toy
gun as a weapon to suggest danger and again, to indicate that he is up to something wrong.
5. Camerawork and editing
I feel that the camerawork went ever so well in the final film. This is because we were able to produce a checklist
of the shots we wanted to create and we managed to complete this checklist by using most of the shots available.
This screenshot on the left is a very good shot and is a dutch tilt shot. This is able to create a mood that it is
mysterious where this block of flats is situated. The audience are able to know that something wrong is up, along
with what happens towards the end of the short title sequence. The editing was managed by Luke and did a very
good job of it. Having a YouTube channel, he was able to put the film together at a good quality, having put the
different fonts over the shots as you are able to see in the screenshots.
6. Title font and text style
The top left screenshot is what the main title of our film looks like. I say that this is very basic and does not represent
the horror genre, however it does have a nice effect with the black glow behind the text. I do feel that we could’ve
done a better job but we wanted to make sure that the footage was also at a high level, rather than the fonts. The
right screenshot is the text we used for all writing in our title sequence. I feel that this is also very basic, but it was the
best font we had to choose from. We did want to download fonts from a particular website, but our system
administrator didn’t allow us to do so, or we didn’t have Premiere Pro at home so couldn’t do it there either.
7. How the characters are introduced
The first screenshot is a foreshadowing of the villain in the film. The pink is part of its mask and straight away we
realise that it could be danger for the future. The next print screen is a picture of the two main characters. These have
a huge part in the film and are the main roles to create the story. The second to last screenshot is where we finally
meet the pink wig character. The previous voice over in the clip tells the audience that he killed the other character in
shot. So the audience automatically realise that the first shot was in fact a foreshadow of what was going to happen.
The final screenshot is where we see the two villains, and that the pink wig character has someone with him, he is not
alone, whereas the main character is whn he gets greeted by the two. This makes him feel vulnerable.
8. Genre and how the opening suggests
it
We decided to create something different by
making our film a hybrid genre, this is when
two genres come together to create one with
all the aspects merged together for each
convention. The title sequence suggests this
with the use of scary, funny masks
(horror/comedy) and also the childish weapons
the villains use (toy gun, foam sword). This is
part of the comedy genre as it has a funny,
jokey side to it. We thought that this was a
good idea, and has definitely turned out to be.
Also, there is another horror aspect to our film
when the dialogue intervenes, the setting of the
tone is quite scary and would get the audience
anxious with freight and excitement.
