1. Problem Statement:
To find a way that will more
directly involve both employees
and students in job placements to
share ownership in the process
with stakeholders.
2. Solution 1:
Employers come to school to watch
students in action as they work in small
groups on a challenging task that has
been given to them. Employers evaluate
the students on how they perform on task
and how they work with others. This
observation will help identify those
students that will be the best fit for their
business.

Solution 1
4. What worked What could be improved
Questions Ideas
•Having students work in groups
•Students all working on a given task
•Employers observing task
•Debriefing after task with students
• Will one task be sufficient for the variety of
employers to evaluate effectively?
•Will all the employers that are evaluating be in
the position to hire someone?
•Will you get enough employers that are willing
to come to school?
• a private debriefing area instead of out in the
open
• Have employers visit more than once to see
different tasks
•Throw a curveball into the challenge to see how
students handle crisis or additional challenge
•Give employers a say in the task that is given
5. Solution 2:
Employers come to watch digital portfolios
prepared by the students to see which
students would be a good fit for their
business.
6. Solution 2 Screen to
display digital
portfolios

Computer and
projector to play
student digital
portfolios
Blue dots represent students as
they are watching as their digital
portfolios are being played on
the screen
7. What worked What could be improved
Questions Ideas
•Digital portfolios are a good way for
employers to assess student work
• How long do you think this process will take?
•Does it pay for employers to sit through all
digital portfolios if students are not interested in
a particular employer’s business?
•Would it be better for employers to view the
digital portfolios at their business?
•Should students go to the place of business
rather than the employers come to school?
•When/how will the students complete their
digital portfolios?
•Perhaps students are not able to watch as
employers view portfolios, giving the
employers an opportunity to talk amongst
each other
•Perhaps individual debriefing session or
panel after the portfolios are viewed
•Organize the showing of the portfolios
based on the type of employment being
sought after
•Organization of what employers see which portfolios
