This includes data collected and verified between May and August 2015 as part of the WHO Global Survey on Assessing National Capacities to Prevent and Control NCDs
Data collected during the survey was crossed-checked from several sources generated by WHO and validated with supporting documentation provided by countries
Exercise will be repeated in 2017 so that individual country data can be reported to the UN General Assembly
The progress achieved in the MPOWER measures on tobacco control is substantially limited, especially when compared to the prevention and control of alcohol, diet and physical inactivity.
More than 50% of the countries in the EM were able to enforce measures to reduce the harmful use of alcohol.
More efforts are needed by member states to improve NCD surveillance – particularly mortality data and cancer registration. Less than 50% of the countries in the EMR have developed an operational multisectoral action plan with well-defined targets. This is crucial for effective planning, prevention and control efforts to curb NCDs
In health care, progress is still very limited, less than 50% of the countries in the EMR have guidelines for the management of the four NCDs and the provision of drug therapy and counselling for at high-risk population to prevent heart attacks and stroke at the primary care level
The ten progress indicators are operationalized in a total of 17 respective sub indicators, only 7 countries out of 22 were able to fully achieve 6 or more sub indicators.
