Comparing Preliminary and Final
Product

Front Page - Conventions
When creating my music
magazine instead of the
preliminary magazine I used
more of the conventions found
in similar magazines. I had
more knowledge of the
conventions and so I was able
to use them and make my
magazine appeal to a larger
audience.

One of the main differences is the use of
images. In my preliminary magazine I didn’t
use any of my own magazines whereas my
final music magazine I did use all of my
own images.

The preliminary task doesn’t
have many conventions of
other magazines. This is
mainly caused by the range of
different colours I used ad
didn’t stick to a single colour
scheme or house style.
Contents Page - Conventions
On my preliminary task I
didn’t really use many
conventions of other
school magazines.
However, I did use many
conventions on my final
music magazine. The
layout is conventional
because it is organised.
Since creating my
preliminary magazine I
have improved with the
conventions and content
I include and use on my
magazines.
Front Page - Photography
My photography since my
preliminary task has
improved. This is mainly
because I didn’t include my
own photography on the
preliminary task.
The photography on my final
task is very conventional as
well because the person is
wearing smart clothing which
is seen by the collar.
Front Page - Editing
On my final task I have edited
the images a lot experimenting
with different techniques.
However, on my preliminary
task I haven’t done a lot with
editing and just added the
picture as it was.
On my front page I edited the
saturation of the image and
added a black fade around the
edges.
Contents Page - Editing
I can’t really compare the
editing on the contents
page because the
preliminary task doesn’t
have any photos that I
have edited.
However, on the
contents page I edited
the brightness, contract,
background and lighting
to get the desired effect
that is also conventional.
Front Page - Layout
The layout on the preliminary
task is quite conventional
because school magazines
are normally organised with
some gaps around the front
page.
However, the layout on my
final task is also conventional
because it has an organised
layout which makes it easier
for the reader to find the
information that they want.
Contents Page - Layout
The layout on both
magazines are quite
similar as they are
organised, which means
that they are both
conventional. However, I
have improved since the
preliminary task because
my final task has a better
layout with the articles in
a row on the left and
then the images on the
right.
Front Page - Fonts
Compared with my preliminary
task my final task has used a
range of conventional fonts
which make the content
seperated. On the preliminary
task I didn’t use any special
fonts only the pre installed
ones. Whereas on my final
task I used five different fonts;
TimeBurner, New Athletic M54,
Glametrix, Droid Sans and
Arial.
Contents Page - Fonts
On the contents page for
the preliminary task I
also used pre installed
fonts instead of
researching and finding
my own. On the final
task I used a range of
different fonts to
separate the content. I
used the fonts on the
front page. The New
Athletic M54 font was
used for the page header
and then Arial & Droid
Sans was used for the
articles.
Front Page - Colours
On both the preliminary and
final task I did use
conventional colours. On the
preliminary task I used the
colours from the Neale Wade
logo which is conventional for
a school magazine as it would
blend in with their house style
and the public would then
recognise the magazine by its
colours. On my final task I
used colours that was
conventional for the genre.
These kinds of colours were
bright and sometimes glowing.
That is why I used white, black
and then a light blue to bring
colour into the page and make
some sections stand out more
Contents Page - Colours
On the preliminary task I
didn’t really use many
colours on the contents
page. I used the page
header and footer from
the front page and then
put it on the contents
page as well. But other
than that there isn’t really
many colours
Whereas on the final
task I carried other the
house style from the
front page and included
the light blue colour for
the headings because I
want them to stand out,
but then used white for
the body content such as

  • 9. Front Page - Fonts Compared with my preliminary task my final task has used a range of conventional fonts which make the content seperated. On the preliminary task I didn’t use any special fonts only the pre installed ones. Whereas on my final task I used five different fonts; TimeBurner, New Athletic M54, Glametrix, Droid Sans and Arial.
  • 10. Contents Page - Fonts On the contents page for the preliminary task I also used pre installed fonts instead of researching and finding my own. On the final task I used a range of different fonts to separate the content. I used the fonts on the front page. The New Athletic M54 font was used for the page header and then Arial & Droid Sans was used for the articles.
  • 11. Front Page - Colours On both the preliminary and final task I did use conventional colours. On the preliminary task I used the colours from the Neale Wade logo which is conventional for a school magazine as it would blend in with their house style and the public would then recognise the magazine by its colours. On my final task I used colours that was conventional for the genre. These kinds of colours were bright and sometimes glowing. That is why I used white, black and then a light blue to bring colour into the page and make some sections stand out more

I used the page header and footer from the front page and then put it on the contents page as well.
