2. • The Alambagh workshop, near Lucknow, was set up in
1865 by the Oudh and
Rohilkhand Raiilway. It started off doing minor
maintenance and periodic overhaul
of coaches and wagons, and eventually became one of
the top workshops engaged
in overhaul, repair, and restoration of carriages and
wagons. Today the workshop
specializes in the new high-speed coaches (LHB Alstom,
IR20/IRY, etc.), airconditioned
coaching stock, etc.
The Basic Data for workshop are as under
• WORKSHOPAREA = 204684 Sq. Mtrs.
• COVERED AREA = 72595 Sq. Mtrs.
• POWER CONSUMPTION = 14666 KWH/day
• WATER CONSUMPTION = 1575000 Ltrs./day
4. In Indian Railway , There are three power supply
systems as existing over Indian Railways to provide
illumination, fan, air-conditioning and other
miscellaneous needs of electricity for travelling
passengers.
There are two types of coaches- 1) ICF: Integral Coach
Factory, Perambur (Chennai) & Rail Coach Factory,Kapurthala
(Punjab).
2) LHB COACHES: LHB body with FIAT bogie (Linke Holfmann Busch
– German)Maximum Permissible Speed 160 kmph.
5. 2×25 kW alternators for AC coach
1×4.5 kW for non-AC coach.

9. EOG system is followed for fully air
conditioned & Premium special trains.
Example- Rajdhan,Shatabdi,Duranto,Garib Rath.
Two power cars each equipped with 2×750 kVA
DG sets.
DG set power supply :-
i) 415V for AC coaches
ii) 110V for Non-AC

End On Generation Method
11. Power is supplied from the train locomotive at the
head of the train.
The single phase 25 kV transformer.
The electric locomotive is provided with hotel load
converter.
The Hotel Load Converter is converted to three
phase AC At 750V using 2x500 KVA inverter.
This is the most efficient system as the cost of
power is about 25% less as compared to EOG.

14. In whole training time period I learned some things
are listed below:
1. I learned most important thing is time management of doing work after
time to time.
2. And the second most important thing is daily meeting in between
employees in morning for today’s work.
3. Daily achievement of goals.
4. Competition in between workers to do work fast and clear.
5. I learnt some new and exciting things in workshop like how Wheels and
AC etc. loading in the coaches.
