2. World wide wine consumption grows…
Between 2008 and 2015, world wine
consumption, increased by 3.26 % in
volume, reaching 2.667 billion 9L cases at
the end of the period.
Forecasts show that between 2013 and
2017, this growth should accelerate to
reach 4.97 % of growth.

3. Wine Market in Asia
In 2013, Asian consumers drank 289.71
million 9L cases (i.e. 3.476 billion bottles) of
still and sparkling wines.
Between 2013 and 2017, Asia’s consumption
forecasted to grow by 22.84% to reach 355.89
million 9L cases.
In comparison, European consumption is
expected to fall by 0.14%, while in the
Americas consumption should grow by 9.05%
in the same period.

4. Greater China
• In 2013, China and Hong Kong together consumed more than 155
million 9L cases (1.865 billion bottles) of red wine, up 136%
compared to 2008.
• China is now the largest red wine market worldwide, followed by
France in second place with nearly 150 million 9L cases and Italy with
141 million 9L cases.
• Chinese consumers have become increasingly attracted to red wine
since 2005. Between 2007 and 2013, the VINEXPO/IWSR study
reveals that red wine consumption was multiplied by 2.75 in China.
• At the same time, consumption dropped in France by 18% and Italy
by 5.8%.
