4. Living and working in different cultures. A comparison
between Canada and Ireland
Contribution to personal development
I already knew that every country has different cultures, habits and such. This presentation made it even
more clear.
You would think that two countries that speak the same language (English, but Canada also French)
would have somewhat of the same culture, but there are so many differences between them.
It’s important to know the differences and traditions of a country when you are going to live/work there.
If later on in life, I decide to go and live in another country, first I will have to do a lot of research to fit in
there.

6. Millennials and their influence on the rapid market
changes
Who are millennials?
Born between 1980 – 2000, grew up alongside technology
Focus on experience, community and teamwork
Digitally connected
Influence on the market
Tough consumer group, companies need to work much harder to convince them
Aren’t easily influenced
Millennials in the workplace
Different expectations
Different work hours: no 9-to-5
Healthy/ecofriendly workspace
Encouraged collaboration
7. Motivation to go to this seminar
I’m a millennial myself so I was interested to discover what kind of influence we have on the current market
and how it’s changing
I think it’s important to know what the future will hold, and millennials are the future so I wanted to know
more about this
Elements that I will remember
She showed us a video of a job interview, the girl’s expecations for the job were totally different than the
reality. She did not want to start working at 8 a.m., she has to use Facebook which she thinks is for old
people, etc… The video was a bit exagurated, but the point was clear.
Marushka is from Aruba, which is a Dutch-speaking country. I forgot about that, so I was suprised when she
started speaking Dutch.

Choice
Carrie Trimble

9. Predicting consumer decision making
Individual influences: personality, attitude,…
Group influences: family, reference groups,…
Reference groups

Have impact on your behavior
Social power
Ability of individual or group to alter actions of others
Not If They’re Doing It! Group Influence On Consumer
Choice
10. Were my expectations met?
Not really, I thought the first part of the presentation was a bit too much about Millikin University and the
town itself.
Towards the end she started getting into the actual topic and that was interesting, that part was kind of
what I was expecting from the entire presentation.
I would say that the first part was dragged out a bit too long, but at the end she redeemed herself
How do I view certain things differently or how did the seminar influence my behavior?
I will try and look out for reference groups that try and influence large amounts of people, like the
Kardashians do. I already knew this, since their entire fame is based upon this.
I will not be easily influenced by certain groups just to be a part of it.
