This document provides information about the "Leading for Quality" program which aims to develop leadership skills for quality improvement in patient care. The 4 module program will help participants develop leadership qualities, build relationships to create change, and engage with patients. Participants will work on a real quality initiative, receiving support from a small facilitated learning set. The program emphasizes placing patient quality and safety above all other aims, engaging and empowering patients, and developing staff.
Leading for Quality Program Develops Healthcare Leaders
1. Leading for Quality
Developing the leaders of better patient care
“ Place the quality of patient care, especially
patient safety, above all other aims. Engage,
empower, and hear patients and carers at all
times. Foster whole-heartedly the growth and
development of all staff, including their ability
and support to improve the processes in
which they work.”

Programme overview
This programme will provide you with the leadership
skills to identify and successfully implement quality
improvements in patient care.
You will:
develop your own leadership skills and qualities
become a more self aware, influential and effective leader
learn how to become more effective in building
relationships to achieve real change
want to learn how to engage successfully with patients
be interested in working across the health and
social care system
You will work on a real quality improvement initiative,
drawing on your practical relevant work experience to
reflect and inform your thinking. In a small facilitated
learning set of 5 people, you will meet for half a day each
module; your facilitator will support the learning set to
help you with in-depth application of the programme
ideas to the way you ‘Lead for Quality’.
2. Each module will include a half day action learning set where
participants will work in small groups with a facilitator, reflecting on and
learning from their experience and from each other as they attempt to
change things.
Prior to stating the programme all participants will be required to
complete an MBTI self-assessment and bring the results to module one.
Between modules participants will be asked to follow up their
learning by holding conversations locally about how they can improve
the quality of care within their local teams. This work will be brought
back to the next module.
