2. INTRODUCTION:-
Multiple choice is a form of assessment in which
respondents are asked to select the best possible
answer out of the choices from a list.
If guessing an answer, there's usually a 25 percent
chance of getting it correct on a 4 answer choice
question.
3. Finding the right answer from multiple choices
can be automated using multiple choice question
answering systems.
The multiple choice format is most frequently
used in educational testing, in market research,
and in elections, when a person chooses between
multiple candidates, parties, or policies.
4. DEFINITION:-
It is an objective type of test where the student is
provided with several alternatives or choices to a
given question and asked to select the most
appropriate one which is correct
5. CHARACTERISTICS OF MULTIPLE-
CHOICE QUESTIONS:-
Multiple-choice Questions are probably the
most widely used of objective tests. Such questions
are normally composed of four parts:
• STEM - question or incomplete statement or picture
• OPTIONS - suggested answers or completions
• DISTRACTERS - incorrect responses
• KEY - correct response
6.
7. TYPES OF MCQS
• Single-best option format – Allows for best
matched answer
•True/False item format – Answer choices must be
unambiguous
8.
9. ADVANTAGES:-
• Objective tests can sample a broad range of a course
• Objective tests are rapidly marked
• Students are not able to "pool" answers
• Scoring is objective and reliable (e.g. no halo effect)
• Distribution of scores is determined by the test - not
by the examiner
• Only the objectives tested for are marked
• "good" items may be stored in an item bank and
reused
10. DISADVANTAGES:-
• Objective tests are time consuming to set
• There is no credit for partial information
• Objective tests may encourage guessing
• Good objective tests are difficult to set
• Student "selects" information
• Objective tests may encourage reproduction
learning
11. GENERAL STEPS OF FORMULATING
MCQ’S PAPER:-
Decide on the number of MCQ’s to be included.
Select the appropriate number of various formats
depending on the learning outcome to be tested.
Group all similar formats together.
Check for inclusion of different formats and with
varying difficult levels in answering.
Place some easy items at the begging of the paper
for the psychological support of the student.
12. Make sure that all parts of an item are in the same
page.
Time should be adequate depending on the total
number of different formats of MCQ’s instruction
to the candidates as how to respond to individual
items must be clear
13. VALIDATING MCQ’S
It is of two types
1. Prevalidation
2. Postvalidation
Prevalidation:- It is the process to which a constructed
item is subjected to validation prior to appearing in
an examination
Postvalidation:- It is the analysis of the item after it
has appeared in a test
14. CONCLUSION:-
By studying this we will come to know
what are MCQ’s type questions and what are types of
MCQ’s, what are advantages and disadvantages of
MCQ’s and what are characteristics and validation of
MCQ’s and general steps to formulating the MCQ’s
