Theorectical Background/Abstract–
Within recent years an increasing amount of workers that are (mostly)
active in the field of the creative industries and new media have been
starting to make use of shared urban office environments known as co-
working spaces. Co-working has its foundation in the freelance/self-
employed realm, but has expanded to include and nature small to
moderate-sized business, nonprofitvs, remote employees, and
emerging industries.
With an increase in alternative forms of work, people are no longer
limited to traditional office spaces. As a result, co-working spaces are
spreading through the urban centers. Technology and globalization
has enabled people to work from different locations. Also companies
have increasingly started to use coworking.
Co-working acknowledges the physical, emotional, and spiritual
needs of the independent workforce by providing a community where
socialization and collaboration are readily available, this project will
serve as practical option for freelancers and the creative individuals
to take advantage of when they find themselves striving for a change
in their work place and atmosphere.
AREA OF CONCERN-
Coworking spaces save huge operational costs and improve revenue
in the long term. You can choose the facilities that meet your business
demands. You can share infrastructure expenses while having access
to the best workplace facilities. You don't need to pay a long-term
lease in advance.

Coworking means “a way of working in which working individuals
gather in a place sharing information and wisdom by means of
communication”. coworker hub is a shared coworking office space
for collaboration, innovation, networking for surrounding
communities open for freelancers, small-medium businesses,
innovators, start-ups or small teams, entrepreneurs.independent
scientists and remote workers.
Over the last few years, co-working spaces have gained popularity
not only with start-ups and SMEs but with large corporates as well.
An analysis of leasing trends in the top seven cities in India,
clearly reflects the rising proportion of mainstream corporates and
established entities from different sectors in the total co-working
space leased.
Co-working offers greater mobility and flexibility in terms of
expanding or contracting workplace space. In addition to this It
offers a foundation for evolution. of the 'community' idea. It
enable people with similar interests to connect with each other in a
work environment. While business districts have a component of
the commercial real estate estate offering, the sharp increase of
new businesses made collaborative spaces necessary.

AIM –
Provide the users with an environment that encourages social interaction
and enhance networking and collaboration opportunities for businesses by
working in close proximity to people in the other fields that share similar
values.
OBJECTIVE –
 To provide businesses with greater flexibility and efficiency than
traditional office.
 To provide good, comfortable and home like environment in
workspaces.
 To develop leadership and team skills.
 To learn, earn and socialize among people along with public squares.
 To create a social platform that encourage social interactions and
businesses.in supporting community engagement that promotes
collaboration between interdisciplinary skills, improves social
interaction and managerial skills.
NEED TO STUDY –
• Not everyone can afford to buy or rent a property in a city center with
a close connection to main social networks and customers.
• These spaces continues to experience rapid growth. The number of
shared workspaces nearly doubles each year and serves an
increasingly broad community of users worldwide.
• To strengthen the circular economy.
• Organisations are finding that co-working can be part of an effective
business strategy in other ways as well.

5. SCOPE OF THE PROJECT –
• Now a global phenomenon, co-working spaces are popping up in most
major cities with an annual growth rate of 24.2%. These spaces are
growing in popularity. Many companies are meeting the demand for
this new way of working.
• Co-working is the new path which mould the life and work in a
sustainable fashion. It will shape the way we work in the future.
• The emphasis in this thesis is on corporate coworking, mainly remote
workers within a company (i.e. corporate employees).
• Hence, this study focuses on accumulating the design strategies to
design an interactive space to foster social encounters between
coworkers and public for interaction to take place.
• The design proposal is limited to an architectural scale where the most
important indoor and outdoor spaces are investigated on a higher detail
level.
• The thesis does not focus on the structural details, technical aspects of
the building and its systems.

6. Coworking spaces have grown by over 1,000 percent over the span
of a decade. Back in 2008, there were just 160 coworking spaces
worldwide. A decade later, there were 18,700 coworking spaces
internationally. Within the next year and a half, coworking spaces
are forecasted to reach 26,300 spaces worldwide. The coworking
space industry is built on buying and renting buildings, turning
them into shared office spaces, and then renting out space and
amenities for a subscription fee.
Number of co-working spaces worldwide from 2005-2020
• The global coworking spaces market size is expected decline
from $9.27 billion in 2019 to $8.24 billion in 2020 at a
compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of -12.9%.
• The decline is mainly due to economic slowdown across
countries owing to the COVID-19 outbreak and the measures
to contain it.
• The global coworking spaces market share is then expected to
recover and reach $11.52 billion in 2023 at CAGR of 11.8%.
Asia is at the top when compared to other continents based on
the number of coworking spaces per region. North America and
Europe are second and third respectively on this scale of global
coworking spaces.
The average size of a coworking area in North America is 9,799
sq./ft., with a mean capability of 100 people that equates to
roughly 100 sq./ft. per person.
In 2021, the United States ranked #1 for the foremost number of
coworking areas globally (3,762), followed by India (2,197) and
therefore the UK (1,044).

The Co- working Space need to be modified by introducing the
"6 feet office" concept, helping their clients create safe spaces,
The concept includes elements like new and improved rules of
conduct, unique routing for each Offrce, adapted workstations
and optimized shared facilities. Using technology by giving new
form to your workspace : think automatic doors, hands-free
check-ins and smart lighting.
A recent survey by HubbleHQ found that increased hygiene
measures would be critical for employees to feel comfortable in
these spaces again. Introducing detailed cleaning protocols with
daily antiviral spraying came out as the most popular measure
among respondents.
Close behind spraying in popularity was compulsory hand-
washing, readily available masks and sanitizers. Plexiglass shields
between desks will be the new norm; gone are the days of
communal meeting rooms. The appeal of a different desk every
day has lost its spark as employees crave something safe they
can trust.
WeWork, one of the leaders in the global co-working spaces
market, has adapted its strategy in several ways, catering to the
pandemic and anticipated aftershock. With over 100 locations in
New York City alone, WeWork offers an array of sites for a
dispersed workforce. The company recently added software to
help HR departments map out their locations, reducing risk of
transmission during a commute for employees.
How to modify the co-working spaces by
considering the pandemic?

9. STANDARDS –
The types of services you’ll get in each of the coworking places vary.
Opening hours. Some are 9-5 and some are 24 hours
• Virtual office platform - Including a receptionist receiving visitors and calls
for you,a mailing address and so on.
• Conference room - A room for meetings (usually with clients).
• Utilities - Microwaves, fridge, coffee machine.
• Different packages for stay - Some places are more flexible than others and
offer packages of hours, half days, weeks and so on.
• Dedicated desk - A dedicated desk is exactly what is sounds like – a
workstation dedicated to one. Some places let you keep your own desk, in
others, you sit where it is available. (Flexi desks)
• Dedicated rooms for small groups and teams.
• Basic office amenities such as chairs, desk, internet connections,
washrooms, air conditioning, etc.
• Hot-desks - A hot desk is similar to a dedicated desk in that you are paying
for a desk in an open plan area. For this reason a hot desk is usually
cheaper
than a dedicated desk.
• Private meeting rooms.
• Kitchens with coffee and tea machines.
• Separate area for eating such as a cafeteria.
• No fixed work timings. You can work as and when you want as long as the
facility is open.
• Modern and futuristic design of the workspace provides a lot of positive

10. WORKSPACE DIMENSIONS
To create an efficient, sustainable coworking space, you need to design appropriate
workspace dimensions.People will gravitate to the type of space and membership plan that
gives them the room they need for howthey have to (or like to) work. If you offer more types
of space, you can attract more types of professionals.
Here are the basic modules used in Satellite Workspace locations:
 Coworking station: 3-4 feet wide x 2 feet deep. The 2-foot dimension can be reduced down
to 20-22 inches to leave more open space. (2 foot is a standard dimension, but if you’re
making furniture, you can reduce this.) The smallest coworking area we’d recommend is 20
inches x 36 inches if configured in a “library
table” setup, with power down the middle of the table.
 Dedicated desk: 2 feet x 5 feet with locking storage. Dedicated desks typically include a
small filing cabinet attached to the desk.
 Workstation: 6 feet x 6 feet: Workstations have locking storage and a hardwired
connection. They also include a file cabinet underneath the desk and sometimes one
cabinet overhead, as well. They should also be able to have a phone connected. For our
Satellite locations, we like to custom design our workstations so they’re beautiful, but you
can buy pre-built cubes.
 Offices: Although you will frequently see smaller offices in coworking spaces, we work with 8’ x 10’ for 1-2 person office and 10’ x 12’ for a
3-4 person office. Team rooms, for larger groups, are important as well.
Reminder: Be sure to include a mix of workspace options. Offering all of the above is a good way to attract members of all types.

We need to know the total space of the facilities themselves. How much space is available determines how it can be split up and organized
across different desking arrangements.
According to Coworking Insights, the average size of a coworking space is 9,799 sq./ft., with an average capacity of 100 people. This
equates to roughly 100 sq./ft. per person. If a benching concept requires an average of 1,000 sq./ft., the average coworking facility can
accommodate nine separate benching areas, with space to spare. Likewise, if a four-desk cluster averages 500 sq./ft., the average
coworking space can accommodate six clusters and six benching areas.

To complete a coworking floor plan, it’s crucial to understand the
different desking concepts and the average space they need to
be effective. For example, the average coworking desk size will
vary greatly from the dimensions of a collaborative workspace.
Knowing the average size requirements for each space type
makes it easier to allocate total available space. Here are a few
examples of average workspace type, courtesy of The
Balance Small Business:
• Private workspaces require an average of 150 sq./ft.
• Open workspaces demand an average of 125 sq./ft.
• Conference rooms need 50 sq./ft., plus an additional 25 sq./ft.
per seat Twenty hot desks takes up 2,500 sq./ft. A six-person
conference room translates to 200 sq./ft. The individual
cogs of a coworking space come together to shape the whole.
Average space size :
Average workspace requirements are fixed. The actual space allocated to a type of desking concept is variable. For example, a conference
room may demand 50 sq./ft. plus an additional 25 sq./ft. per person, but that doesn’t mean every conference room has the same space
demands. A four-person room is much smaller than a 10-person room, which means it takes up less overall space.
It’s also important to consider average workspace as a function of the spaces around it. A shared office layout with 10 seats may require
1,250 sq./ft. based on average seating, but it could easily be 1,500sq./ft. if the room already has these dimensions. Or, it may be 1,250
sq./ft. that blends into a nearby zone of desk pods, where ~150 sq./ft. are shared between the two zones.

Mysuru is the third-largest city in the state of Karnataka, India.
The city has expanded spatially in a concentricmanner since 1971.
City located in the southern part of Karnataka, is well connected
by road, rail and airport. Mysuru city has radial and grid-iron
pattern road network with arterial roads originating from the city
center.! Mysore has emerged to be the major extension of the
Silicon Valley of India The growth of information technology
related industry in the first decade of the 21st century has resulted
in information technology companies creating bases in Mysore
and the city has emerged as the Second largest software exporter
in the state of Karnataka, next to Bangalore. Mysore- In stark
contrast to Bangalore, the work culture is a blend of traditional
and western. Most companies here still follow fixed-timings with
ample rejuvenating breaks in between.
