4. Artifact 3:
Voice and
Resonance
Vocal Hygiene Brochure:
Creating and designing this brochure on vocal hygiene for my Voice Disorders
course during my graduate studies helped me grow and develop as a
clinician by providing a creative outlet to produce a brochure to educate
others about phonotraumatic behaviors and why vocal hygiene strategies
are important. Providing proper education to patients and families is apart of
a Speech Language Pathologist’s scope of practice and sharing these types of
strategies will aid in the promotion of healthy voices and habits while
reducing these behaviors. This brochure also brings awareness to the habits
that we have daily and learning how when used in excess can be damaging
to the vocal folds.
6. Artifact 5:
Hearing
Case Study 5- Noise Induced Hearing Loss:
During my Hearing Disorder course in my graduate
studies, my partner and I completed a case study
project and presentation on a hypothetical patient who
presented us with his case history. After research and
completed assessment, we came to the conclusion that
he acquired a noise induced hearing loss. This
assignment helped me grow and develop as a clinician
by reinforcing interprofessional partnerships,
assessment of hearing disorders, education, utilizing
evidence-based resources, and creating a plan to
implement aural rehabilitation to improve the quality
of life of the patient.
9. Artifact 8: Social Aspects of
Communication
Communication Problems- Social Stories
During my 5th graduate clinical experience, I provided
interventions to preschool children with autism spectrum
disorder. This social story is about going to school and
acted as a reinforcer of classroom rules and expectations
established by the teacher. This artifact helped me grow
as a clinician by providing me the opportunity to offer a
relatable social scenario with visual cues during group
therapy sessions. The social story was helpful in assisting
the children with transitioning into the classroom and
following a routine.
10. Artifact 9: Augmentative
and Alternative
Communication
Literacy Project- AAC
During my Augmentative and Assistive
Communications course, I completed a project
to promote literacy utilizing an AAC device. The
goal of this assignment was to create an AAC
display that targeted word/phrase recognition
for my case scenario client. I selected an age-
appropriate book, “Pete the Cat: I Love My
White Shoes” and created a corresponding
display for my client. This artifact helped me
grow as a clinician by providing me with an
chance to be creative and design an
individualized and person-centered display
based on the client’s favorite book. The
incorporation of the display provides an
opportunity for my client to engage and
participate in reading and answering questions
appropriately based on the story.
