4. HISTORY
Dubai is one of the richest places in world.
The Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai HH Sheikh
Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, envisioned the
creation of such islands because of the business and tourism
potential of Water front areas.
It was the realization that the country cannot depend on its
oil reserves forever to drive its economy. World over it is
seen that water front properties command premium price.
The Palm was conceived as a natural progression in a
succession of extraordinary tourism initiatives in Dubai
5. PLANS
City at sea
Luxury villas
Shopping malls
Restaurants
More space for peoples
Island to be made of natural materials- rock and sand
Save country.
7. CONSTRUCTION OF ISLAND
Phase 1 :- Construction of Breakwater.
Phase 2 :- Construction of Palm Island.
Phase 3 :- Infrastructural Development on main Island.
8. PROCESS OF BREAKWATER
Build up the sea floor.
Collect a thin layer of sand from a sea bed.
Dump it on the site of the construction.
This layer of sand was to 7.4 meters thick.
Layer of Rubble.
Huge rocks of irregular shape and size.
Provides rigidity to the wall.
It is 7 meters in height.
Outer Armor.
The rocks are interlocked among themselves.
9. CONSTRUCTION OF PALM ISLAND
The designer at site Nakheel (contractor) believe the breakwater will
protect the palm island from average gulf weather and even an enormous
storm.
They even suggest that villas barely 10 feet above sea level will be safe
from the rising seas of global warming.
The palm islands themselves are constructed from sand dredged from the
sea floor. Palm Jumeirah is made from 3,257,212,970.389 cubic feet of
ocean sand vibro-compacted into place.
Vibro-compaction increases the
density of loose sand by saturating it
with jets of water and vibrating it
with probes.
10. INFRASTRUCTURAL DEVELOPMENT
Entire city is placed in a span of 2 years.
It has a capacity to withstand a population of 220,000.
Palm island will feature themed hotels, Villas, Apartment
buildings, beaches, restaurants.
11. WHY IT IS MADE IN DUBAI ?
Dubai have sunny days throughout the year.
5million tourists visit Dubai annually ,but the SHEIKH
wanted to more than 15 million
Problem- Coastline of Dubai is 72kms which is not
enough for 15million tourist. So he improve the cost
line of Dubai.
The SHIEKH MUHAMMAD planned to build a artificial
palm tree shaped island which will increase the
coastline by 56kms.
12. CONCLUSION
The construction of the Palm Jumeirah was a feat of
engineering, but did not come without its challenges.
An immense amount of sand and stone was used,
and it all had to be placed in precisely the right
location.
The island was designed to withstand both the forces
of nature and the forces of the city being built on top
of it, all within a strict deadline. It has been
speculated that the island is sinking.
