Generic applications of GPRS include information services, internet access, email, and web browsing. It allows access to content like sports scores, weather, flight information and news headlines. Mobile internet browsing and mobile commerce/banking are well-suited for GPRS due to its higher bandwidth. GPRS also enables specific applications like chat services, multimedia messaging, virtual private networks, personal information management, job dispatch, unified messaging, vehicle positioning, and location-based services/telematics.

means to communicate and discuss matters of common

5. Multimedia Service
Multimedia objects like photographs, pictures, postcards,
greeting cards, presentations, static web pages can be
sent and received over the mobile network.
Moving images help to monitor parking lots or building
sites for intruders or thieves.
It can also be used by law enforcement agents,
journalists, and insurance agents for sending images of
accident site

GPRS used to offer VPN services.
Many bank ATM machines use VSAT (Very Small
Aperture Terminal) to connect the ATM system with the
banks server.
Bandwidth in GPRS is higher, so many banks migrating
VSAT to GPRS-based networks
7. Personal Information Management
Personal diary, address book, appointment are useful
to mobile individual.
Some of these are kept in the phone, some in the
intranet.
GPRS can be used to integrate address book, the diary
of the phone with diary at the home office
8. Job Sheet Dispatch
GPRS used to assign and communicate job sheets from
office-based staff to mobile field staff
When customer requiring a visit by field sales or service
representative can then be escalated to those mobile
workers.
If job dispatch applications combined with vehicle
positioning applications, nearest available suitable
personnel can be deployed to serve a customer
9. Unified Messaging
It uses single mailbox for all messages(voice mail, fax, e-
mail, SMS, MMS)
With the various mailboxes in unified messaging
systems allow variety of access methods to recover
message of different types
Some use text-to-voice system to read e-mail, faxes over
a normal phone line.
