2. Concept of Stress
Stress is an individual reaction to the interpretation of ( real or perceived) event, thus, affects his
general wellbeing.
3. Types Stress
EUSTRESS: Positive, Motivating & Inspring
NUESTRESS: Neither Good Or Bad
DISTRESS: Negative Or Bad Stress
A- ACUTE STRESS: Is quite intense , but, disappears quickly
B- CHRONIC STRESS: May Not Be Look Intense from The onset, but, last longer
4. Job Stress
Job stress as a psychological and behavioural response on the part of a person to a job situation, in
which he is unable to cope with, therefore leads to incapacity and ill health.
5. Causes of Job related stress
Work overload;
Time pressure
Lack of social support at work
Exposure to infectious disease
Role ambiguity and conflicts
Career development issues
Exposure to work-related violence or threats
Understaffing
Shift work
Dealing with difficult client.

Burnout is a syndrome of exhaustion (energy depletion), pessimism (that
is, callous attitudes towards work and others) and reduced professional
efficacy.

Self Care – avoid workoholism, time for hobbies, leisure, family and friends

12. Management of Job Stress and Burnout
Stress Management Skills Generally Focus On The Following Areas:
Cognitive skill: Learning to change the way you think about the stressful situation in order to feel less
tension and respond more effectively. cognitive skills are particularly useful for addressing stressors that
tend to make a person angry and frustrated.
Behavioural skill: Learning to change your reactions to stressors. behavioural changes can be achieved
by analysing the situation and its antecedents, and by reconditioning healthy responses. behavioural
skills may include time management, assertiveness, conflict management and communication.
Physiological skill: Learning to modulate your physical response to stressors. physiological stress
management skills include meditation, yoga, deep relaxation,& breathing control.
