6. Global warming definition.
 “global warming is a gradual
increase in the earth’s temperature
generally due to the greenhouse
effect caused by increased levels of
carbon dioxide, CFCs, And Other
pollutants.”
 It is caused due to green house
effect.

7. What is global warming?
 Global warming is long-term heating
of earth’s climate system observed
since the pre-industrial period (between
1850 and 1900) due to human activities
, primarily fossil fuel burning , which
increases heat-trapping greenhouse
gas levels in earth’s atmosphere.

8.  In cold countries, a house of glass is used to raise delicate plants.
This is known as green house. The green house is having higher
temperature than outside. They let short wave radiation of 4mm
wavelength to pass through the glass but prevent the escape of
infrared radiation reflected by earth. This effect is known as green
house effect.
What is green house effect?

11. Causes of global warming
 Emission of green house gases like carbon dioxide,
methane , nitrous oxide etc. into the atmosphere.
 The major source is carbon dioxide (80%)
 20% by methane and nitrous oxide.

• the major source of carbon dioxide is the power
plants.
• Burning of fossil fuels for the purpose of electricity
generation.
• About twenty percent of carbon dioxide emitted in the
atmosphere comes from burning of gasoline in the
engines of the vehicles.

• Methane is more than 20 times as effectual as CO2 at
entrapping heat in the atmosphere.
• Methane is obtained from resources such as rice
paddies, bovine flatulence, bacteria in bogs and fossil
fuel manufacture.

oxide
• The main source of nitrous oxide include nylon
and nitric acid production ,cars with catalytic
converters, the use of fertilizers in agriculture and
the burning of organic matter.
• It is responsible 6% of the human input of green
house effect.

• Cutting and burning of forests for the
purpose of residence and industrialization.

Carbon
• It contributes about 20% to global warming from green house
gases from human activities.
• The main source of CFC is leaking air conditioners and
refrigeration, evaporation of industrial solvents, propellants in
aerosol spray cans, and production of plastic foams.

18. The effects of global warming
o Increasing the average temperature of the earth.
o Alterations in the ecology, including an increasing sea level and
modifying the quantity and pattern of rainfall.
o Boost the occurrence and concentration of severe climate events, such
as floods, famines , heat waves, tornados and twisters.
o Various new diseases have emerged .
o The global warming is extending the distribution of mosquitoes due to
the increase in humidity levels and their frequent growth in warmer
atmosphere.
o Effects the marine life .
