Computer Applications 1
The course provides an overview of microcomputer applications including a brief introduction to
computer concepts, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and integration of the applications using a
hands-on practical approach. Upon completion of this course students will have compiled a
portfolio of their best work.
Computer Applications 2
The course provides an overview of microcomputer applications including a brief introduction to
computer concepts, Microsoft PowerPoint, Microsoft Access, and integration of the applications
using a hands-on practical approach. Upon completion of this course students will have compiled
a portfolio of their best work.
Computerized Bookkeeping (QuickBooks)
Students become familiar with accounting software through the use of QuickBooks Financial
Sofware. Emphasis is placed on making routine business transactions as a business owner such
as purchasing products from Vendors, paying bills, recording Customer Sales, and generating
employee Payroll. Both an Inventory company and a Service company are exampled.
Comprehensive Computer Project
The Comprehensive Computer Project (CCP) enables the student to develop a business (or a
theme) and then prepare documents using all of the computer applications (Microsoft Office,
QuickBooks, etc.) they have learned.
Database Management
This course introduces the student to the basic functionality of Microsoft Access, which is a
database management application. Students will learn how to create a database by creating
Tables. Students will also learn how to manipulate the information in the database by creating
Queries. They will also learn how to use Forms to input information more easily and to produce
professional-looking Reports.
Spreadsheets
The objective of this course is to familiarize the student with the basic functionality of Microsoft
Excel, which is a spreadsheet application. Students will learn how to create, edit and format a
worksheet. They will also learn how to use formulas and functions. Using the information from
2. the worksheets, they will create and edit charts. More advanced features will include the use of
PivotTables, linking and grouping within workbooks, and creating macros.
Computer Spreadsheets in Accounting
Students will gain skills using the popular spreadsheet, Microsoft Excel. Training includes
extensive “hands on” experience planning, constructing and documenting accounting related
worksheets. The student will learn many of Excel’s advance features, functions and tools to
complete accounting task similar to those they will perform in a business environment. With the
use of practice exercises, the student is well prepared to work in any business environment.
Automated Accounting
The student will learn how to use the latest version of QuickBooks Premier automated
accounting software to complete accounting task similar to those they will perform in a business
environment. The student will be given extensive “hands on” experience with the QuickBooks
software. With the use of practice exercises, the student is well prepared to work in any business
environment.
Financial Accounting 1
This course will introduce students the role of accounting in business. Emphasis will be placed
on how the accounting equation serves as the framework for the accounting system and how the
application of the concepts and principles determines the procedures performed in the accounting
process.
Financial Accounting 2
This course is a “hands on” practical approach to financial accounting. Particular emphasis is
placed on performing the tasks necessary to complete the accounting cycle in a manual
environment. This includes: preparing and analyzing documents, journalizing and posting
transactions, taking a trial balance, making adjustments, preparing financial statements, closing
the ledger, and recording reversing entries.
Managerial Accounting
This course emphasizes the ways managerial accounting tools such as cost, profit, volume
analysis, differential analysis and budgeting. Emphasis will also be placed on the various product
costing methods.
Introduction to Business Principals
This course will introduce students to the business functions, methods of business operation,
types of business ownership, and the role of business organizations in contemporary society.
3. Advanced Financial Accounting
This course emphasizes the advanced accounting procedures, methods and systems necessary to
properly account for the major asset, liability and equity accounts and how they are affected by
generally accepted accounting principles. Emphasis will be placed on the practical skills needed
to maintain the integrity of the accounting system reconciliations, analysis and valuation, and the
advanced accounting principles connected with analyzing financial statements and understanding
the statement of cash flows.
Interpersonal Communications
This course is designed to give students a comprehensive view of communication, its scope and
importance in business, and the role of communication in establishing a favorable image outside
the firm environment, as well as an effective internal communications program. The various
types of business communication media are covered. This course also develops an awareness of
the importance of succinct written expression to modern business communication.
