2. Introduction
For this presentation I will be talking about the future of digital. In this
case I believe that the future of digital is heavily tied into the advances
people are working on for the field of artificial intelligence. If you think
about it artificial intelligence as a field couldn’t exist if there wasn’t a
digital medium for it to exist in.

3. Prediction: Artificial General Intelligence
Currently the field of artificial intelligence is relatively well known.
Some of you may even have some A.I. in your house right now, don’t
believe me just say “Hey Siri” or “Alexa”, or “OK Google” or any number
of other different voice commands your digital devices are meant to
respond to. That being said what a lot of people aren’t thinking about is
Artificial General Intelligence, which is to say a machine that has the
capacity to process things to the same capacity as humans. Simply put,
A.G.I. is A.I. that can perform any intellectual action a human can
perform without supervision.

4. Potential Benefits
The potential benefits of Artificial Intelligence as a whole are the ability
of A.I. to avoid some of our biological limitations as it pertains to
decision making. For example, a self driving car won’t fall asleep at the
wheel and cause a car crash with another motorist. Beyond that other
benefits include difficult decisions on an emotional level. For example,
lets pretend a doctor has a situation where a mother is attempting to
give birth and there are complications. The mother wants the baby to
be saved even if it would end up killing her. An A.I. would look at the
situation and determine the most pragmatic option based on statistics
rather than emotions.

5. Potential Risks
Most everyone has watched terminator so I am certain you know
where I am coming from for this. There are two core concerns people
have voiced for the risks of an A.I. being capable of autonomous
intelligent decision making. The first concern is that someone orders
this A.I. to do something horrible and devastating. Essentially this
concern involves fears that people would lose control of the A.I. after
starting a war using them and inevitably we would end up bringing
about the end of the world. Think nuclear warheads with brains. The
second concern is that the A.I. is told to do something positive but it
ends up coming up with a horrible method for fulfilling that order. A
perfect example exists in a show called Jimmy Newtron, where he
orders two A.I. operated robots to correct for errors. They determine
that humans were flawed by their very nature, so they end up trying to
kill people.

6. Artificial General Intelligence in the Media
There are quite a few movies that have helped shape people’s opinions
of A.G.I. throughout the years. To name a few there’s the Star Wars
series, Blade Runner, Alien, I-Robot, Robocop Star Trek, The Matrix,
Transformers, Wall-E and Terminator. Some video game references
include A.G.I. as well my favorite being the Omnic race in Overwatch.
These movies and games have all helped expose people to new
thoughts and ideas about A.G.I. and these actions have been on a rise
for some time now. This is primarily due to the fact that people did not
think we would have some of the simpler A.I. advances we have seen in
recent years within their life time.

7. My thoughts on A.G.I.
I believe that if utilized and implemented correctly A.G.I. will be very
much beneficial to humanity. A lot of our more hazardous tasks or
biological issues could potentially be solved with A.G.I.. For example,
imagine a car that can actively operate itself and lets say everyone has
one of these cars. Tell me how a drunk driver would get into a car crash
in this situation. Baring that imagine how much mobility that would
give to people who are blind. Lets take that to a more personal level,
imagine a A.G.I. operated robot that is designed to help take care of an
elderly individual that has a disease that involves memory lose and
causes them to leave the house or panic. A Human caretaker in that
situation would lose focus or fall asleep at some point and leave a
window where the elderly individual could wander outside.

8. Conclusion
A.G.I. is the future of digital. We are currently researching it actively.
There is plenty of risks and benefits involved with this technology just
like there are plenty of risks and benefits involved with automobiles.
