This power point contains a very simplified explanation in factors that affecting language learning strategies also known as LLS. Hopefully it could help readers to easily understand the factors that was discussed in the slides.

PRESENTED TO PROF. DATO’ DR MOHAMED AMIN BIN EMBI
UNIVERSITI KEBANGSAAN MALAYSIA (UKM)
2. Language Learning Strategies or LLS is
an action, actions or series of actions,
that helps an individual to learn new
language efficiently and successfully.
3. 1. AGE
2. MOTIVATION
3. LEARNING STAGE
4. LEARNING STYLE
5. CULTURAL
DIFFERENCES
Factors that affect LLS
4. 1. AGE
Most Younger children learn easier through
memory strategy
applying images and sound attracts them very
well, thus they learn much faster.
Adult are more
occupied with
many stuff.
Thus planning
needed to be
done in order
for them to
learn language.
Adult socialize
more often and
with many
different person
everyday. Social
strategies are
applicable and it
depends on what
medium they are
using.
5. 2. MOTIVATION
Motivational people or students usually strategic.
So because of their motivation, they will choose
the most fastest and effective language learning
strategies.
People who are motivated usually would be able
to choose cognitive strategies because they are
able to control themselves
If learners are the
type that is less
motivated, then
they probably will
prone to planning
strategy where
one step they
could set a longer
time to achieve.
Motivated people
will practice more
often, less
motivated people
will practice less.
6. 3. LEARNING
STAGE
Different people have different learning stage. some people has
the basics of the language they want to learn, means they started
leanrn language not from the basic.
There are different stages of learning language. Some people
started slow and then catch up very fast. Some start fast but
catch up slow.
Each language
learning stage for
each language is
has different
dificulty.
Each stage takes
different time
range to learn,
integration of LLS
might be needed.
It is
recommended to
make learning
interesting.
7. 4. LEARNING STYLE
Different people
have different
needs. And
individual will
choose a
strategies that is
suitable with
their learning
style.
Some people
easily learn
through
memorizing, so
they probably
could use
memory
strategies
But for people
who usually
have problem to
focus or quickly
lose interest,
they probably
could do
affective
strategies.
8. 5. Cultural
Differences
Some culture cause
limitation to the use of the
language that the
individual are trying to
learn, thus cause him/her
to need more time and
planning to learn certain
language.
Because of
cultural
differences
sometimes social
strategies cannot
work.
Theres a limitation in
speaking and writing.
