First Feeder Containership design order to OMT
OMT (Odense Maritime Technology) has secured its first design order for a Feeder Containership. The ship is a high intake (3600 TEU),
shallow draught design with best-in-class fuel efficiency, which is achieved by an extensive optimisation and model testing programme.
The vessels will be built at Cosco Zhoushan Shipyard in China for Maersk Line A/S. The design is intended for operation in Maersk Line’s
liner network in Northern Europe. OMT will supply design drawings and documentation to Cosco Shipyard.
The new order for the container feeder design is an important milestone in OMT’s business strategy for becoming a leading design
supplier of cost-effective and energy-efficient vessel designs for China’s growing maritime industry.
Odense Maritime Technology (OMT) traces its heritage back to 1917 when Odense Steel Shipyard was founded by A. P. Moller in
Odense. OMT was founded in 2010 as a spin-off from Odense Steel Shipyard, in which more than 80 containerships were built for
Maersk Line until the yard was closed down in 2011.
Today, OMT employs 150 naval architects and marine engineers. OMT’s head office is located in Odense, Denmark, and engineering
centres are located in Copenhagen, Shanghai and Bangalore.
