2. Todorov’s theory
Todorov’s theory was that every film and book has 5
stages
The first stage is the stage of equillibrium ( This is
where everything is perfectly fine
The second stage is the disruption/problem of the
equillibrium
Someone sees the disruption of the equillibrium
The protaginist sets out to restore the equillibrium
There is a new equillibrium that may be good or
bad
3. How it applies to The Incredibles
Mr and Mrs Incredible are recognized throughout the world as heroes
They are now being shunned and have been forced into being average
people
Mr Incredible and his family set out to restore their fame and relive
their glory days
To relive their glory days then they will have to defeating a new super
villain
After defeating the superhero and restoring their fame a new super
villain threatens the city and The Incredible’s are ready
4. Propp’s Theory
Propp’s theory was that every film and book always have
characters who are normally
A hero- The protaginist who sets out to restore the equllibrium
A sidekick- This is the person that helps and accompanies the
hero
A villain- This is the person that normally rivals the hero or they
have a grudge against him
A heroine- This is normally the prize that the hero earns for
restoring the equllibrium. She may also assist the hero.
A father- This is normally the person that trains the hero or
sends them out on the mission
5. How it applies to the Incredible’s
Mr Incredible (hero)- He is the protaginist of The Incredible’s
and sets out to save the world
The Rest of the Incredibles Family (sidekick)- They are there to
help Mr Incredible and follow him throughout his mission
Syndrome (Villain)- He has a grudge against Mr Incredible and
wants revenge for what Mr Incredible did to him in the past
Mrs Incredible (heroine)- She assists Mr Incredible and they fall
back in love
Edna Mode (father)- Even though she just designs the costumes
and enhances their powers she encourages them to save the
world.
