1. LEAD-IN – ‘What can you see in the
picture?’
- Use S response as ‘lead in’ to read the
target word.
2. DRILL THE WORD – guide the S in reading
target word with a clap for every syllable
(Note: Drill the word 3 times)
3. TEACH THE WORD
- give a statement or two about target
word (e.g. Eating fruits can make you strong!
– TPR)
- show examples of or relating to target
word (at least 2 for target word and one
which is not, but related)
4. SENTENCE READING – tell the student
that you’ll be reading the sentence together,
then guide the student in reading it.
28. © 51Talk. Proprietary and confidential.
5. IT’S QUESTION TIME! – utilize CCQ’s
directly pointed at the target word. (e.g. What
food can make you strong if you eat it?)
6. IT’S GAME TIME! – play a game with
student aimed at strengthening lesson
retention and understanding of S.
- FIRST, prepare and show teaching aids
about target word as well as those related to it
- SECOND, announce that it’s time for the
game. Give instructions to student on what to
do if he/she identifies which is target word
and which is not.
- THIRD, ask ICQ’s to confirm student’s
understanding of what to do for the game.
- FINALLY, ask student to identify which
teaching aid is/related to target word and
which ones are not (GIVE REWARDS
ACCORDINGLY!)

practice the target word
How to do the dialogue part:
1. Tell student that you will
read the DIALOGUE
together.
2. Read each dialogue just like
you’re doing ‘STEP 4’ of the
