yoga from Swami Vivekananda

promoted in India in the 1920s

• In 1924 the first Hatha Yoga
school was opened by
Krishnamacharya

8. • In 1936 the Divine Life Society
was formed on the banks of the
Ganges River by Sivananda
• Sivananda became a prolific
author and wrote over 200 books
about yoga
• He created nine ashrams spiritual
hermitage and many yoga centers
around the world
• Indra Devi was the first person to
open a yoga studio in Hollywood
in 1947
9. Personally I love Yoga. I practice every day for at least a half hour. I really
enjoyed getting to know the history behind how it all started. Finally getting to
know the names of the creators has been a lot of fun, although hard to
pronounce. Learning this has deepened my love and respect for the practice
and the culture it has come from.
