Welcome to Annual General Meeting of North Hertfordshire Centre for Voluntary Service
Good to see so many friends, colleagues, members and partner organisations represented here today
Tables have been arranged so that the majority of them have either a board member, a member of staff or in some cases both
Our theme this year is âWorking in the communityâ
Opportunity today to showcase some examples of what that means
Also opportunity to ânetworkâ
After the formal business refreshments will be served
Iâm Tony Kuczys
I became Chair of North Herts CVS last year, succeeding Saul Ackroyd
Itâs been an exciting year for the Charity
Highlights include
Merging the Stevenage and North Herts transport schemes, to provide a single service which is really meeting peopleâs needs and welcoming Maggie and Nora to help deliver the service
Providing support and advice for our members â sometimes making all the difference between whether they can keep going or not
TeamHerts Volunteering, which operates across Hertfordshire , and reached over 2,000 people in its first year
Delivering a variety of training courses, and other events, for which the feedback was brilliant
Please look at our Impact Report to see the wide range of projects and activities we have been delivering in North Herts and Stevenage. We will also be hearing from the Executive Director shortly about our activities in the current year and work going forward
First, itâs time to get down to the serious business of reporting our results for 2016-17
Firstly â minutes of the last meeting. Copies are in your packs and will be on the website. All full members are entitled to vote and you should have been given one blue voting card per member when you signed in.
There are no matters arising from last year so could I please have a proposer to move the adoption of the minutes as a true record of 2016 AGM and someone to second them?
Now, Iâm going to ask the Treasurer, Michael Paterson, to talk us through the annual report and accounts âŚ.
Whilst we continue to maintain our services andcurrent staffinglevels it isbecoming increasingly difficult. Jacquieand the board expect a challenging year ahead to continue to deliver the services we have been providing and continue to flourish.
There is a summary sheet showing the overall picture of our accounts in your packs. There is also one copy of the full report on each table for information. The document will also be available on our website. We decided this year that the cost of printing the full document was too high.
Our income last year was ÂŁ547,605 which was down by ÂŁ75,973 on the 2015/16 year but we also managed to decrease our expenditure whilst maintaining current service levels. However this is unlikely to be able to continue.
Costs have increased and we anticipate using some of our reserves going forward whilst doubling our efforts to seek funds to develop and maintain our services. The work of Anne Taylor was generously supported by a legacy.
Despite decrease in income for charitable activities we maintained our service levels.
Grant from Department of Transport for a newminibus which we hope to generate an income to cover its costs going forward.
Salary costsincreaseddue to asmall salary increase of 1% but mainly additional hours for current staff and increased responsibility awards
Can I ask for a proposer and a seconder from those entitled to vote for the annual report andaccounts. You will have been given a blue voting card if you are entitled to vote.
Thank you to Gary Wilson, our independent examiner, who continues to provide support and advice to NHCVS. Thank you for the help with the transfer of our information to our new QuickBooks software.
I would like to recommend that we continue using Howard Wilson as our independent examiner. Can I ask for a proposer and a seconder from those entitled to vote.
Can I hand you back to Tony for the appointment of directors for the forthcoming year
Saul has moved away from the area so stood down in January 2017 and Ruth Mann has also resigned.
Wehave three new people standing for election: Michael Farrell, Hannah Gray and Justine Hobbs who unfortunately cannot be here today. A short biography for them is included in your packs. Can I ask for a proposer and also a seconder for their election onto the board.
Two trustees have served their term and are now standing for re-election: Andrew Phillips and Sue Ross. Can I ask for a proposer and a seconder for their re-election.
That concludes the official business of the AGM and I would like to ask Jacquie for a few brief comments about last year and also the year ahead.
We want to encourage a culture change in the way we support individuals, sparking a long term debate about the way in which we deal with increasing pressures and limited resources.
Partners are aware of the voluntary sector offer
Recognising the role and propose means of supporting communities to care for one another
Challenge existing commissioning practices
Provide a framework for doing things differently and making it easier for frontline staff and the public to access community support
Our aim is to integrate existing hospital discharge services with community navigation and in doing so demonstrate the benefit to all parts of the health service of people accessing the wide range of community based, and voluntary sector support that is available.
Person Centered Care is not a new model and our aim is to build on what already works and is effective. Social work colleagues are redesigning assessment frameworks to be focused on community support, and for teams to be more embedded in their local community. As part of a system-wide approach to managing demand, frontline workers are also being asked to refer to formal social care only after exploring what support can be found in the community, such as via better supporting the family or trying technology.
Similarly, we have worked with operational colleagues to support the creation and development of a series of new Carer Practitioner posts. These posts are designed to champion culture change within the front line social work teams. This includes having links with commissioning and commissioned carers providers in order to support social workers to refer carers to support in the voluntary and community sector, such as Carers in Hertfordshire. There is growing evidence for the efficacy of peer designed and delivered services for carers like those provided by Carers in Hertfordshire.
We are also working closely with homecare providers to demonstrate how community and voluntary sector provision can enhance their work, in some cases reduce the demand on their services and improve outcomes for individuals.
Personal budgets have an important role here â to enable people to access community services easily and for providers to diversify their income and improve their sustainability.
