Dress Code Essay
Let's be honest, there is a common problem throughout many high schools. What is it you say? The answer is dress codes. "A set of rules
specifying the garb or type of clothing to be worn by a group or by people under specific circumstances" (Dictionary.com). School are failing to
address equally among women, but shame and sexualize their bodies. Social media post and news broadcast are storming the nation as more and more
situations with girls being called out for breaking the dress code. This is something not just another problem the country should push aside, but to
confront it and find a way to fix and improve the quality of life for all the students. "School dress codes have a serious sexism problem," an editorial by

typically not be considered sexual– shoulders. It has been said over and over again that the way these girls are dressing is a cause for a "distraction"
for the male students (Zhou, 2015, para.11). In a way schools are allowing students to continue this behavior for their future, making judgements on
females based on what they are wearing. This is where rape culture comes into play. Dress codes serve to normalize rape culture, as women are
pushed to feel ashamed of their body and what they show, as innocence as it may seem. Sarah Gordon, a Girl Up Teen advisor, says "rape culture, a
building block of the patriarchy, says that men have the license to do almost anything they want, that women are temptresses, and that if a woman is a
victim to a man's assault/harassment/rape, it is her fault" (2016, para. 16). Putting dress codes into play allow to continue the belief that women and
girls are sexual objects and should be defined by that. Putting less stress on what a woman is wearing will allow stronger, happier women.

Argument For School Dress Code

School Dress Code Argument
Why can't people be happy in their own skin and feel confident in what they're wearing? Why don't schools let both boys and girls wear what they
want? Of course, school dress code is more lenient on boys than on girls. Why can't girls wear crop tops to school without being sent to the office and
being asked to change their shirt? And also not having to be getting judged by everything that they're wearing. Dress code may have made a lot of
people not be happy with their own body, and have low self esteem, because school dress code has made them not feel comfortable in their favorite shirt
or shorts etc. Everyone should have the right to wear what they want, even though there is limits students. Now granted, students should also
understand that there are things that are inappropriate, but they should atleast be able to go to school and feel happy that, throughout the day they can
have a good normal day at school without the students having to go to the office.
We all know that there is different rules in almost all school dress codes that apply to guys and girls. For example, at some schools guys can't wear
beanies during class but girls can. A girl can't have shorts that reach before their fingertips when they have their arms down. I personally feel like
there shouldn't be "dress code" because for many people they like to express themselves by what they wear, why should schools make people feel
uncomfortable? Not having uniforms can make the students feel competitive on what they wear and where they have got their clothes from. For some
students those things do matter, but for some of them it doesn't matter they're going to school to learn, not to impress people at school. Some schools
hate what their students wear to school, but don't they have like favorite pieces of clothing that they also love as much as the students do? If schools
don't like what they are seeing in the student's "outfits" each day then they should start making students to wear their school uniforms. 15 year old,
Miranda Larkin, was sent to the nurse's office for wearing a short skirt that violated the school dress code, and they made

Professional Dress Code in the Workplace

The first impression is a lasting impression whether it is at the office, a party, a lunch date or an interview. What you wear to these events can be
either a positive impression or a negative one. That is why I think it is very necessary to have a professional dress code in the workplace if your
place of employment is that of a professional setting such as a bank or even an insurance company. If the professionalism does not show on what the
employees are wearing, how are their customers going to accept that they are professionals at what they do. The business could lose the credibility of
how they handle their business. Nowadays,...show more content...
The way an employee dresses up for work can impact on how a person perceives that employee. It can hold a positive or negative impact depending
on where they work. You don't expect to find a personal banker dressed in skinny jeans, a bright pink polo shirt, and tennis shoes. You expect for
them to be wearing a suit with a tie, polished shoes and be nicely groomed. By dressing in this fashion, you can see that the employee is committed to
his job and place of employment and that they are responsible. By dressing otherwise, they would seem irresponsible and need their parent to dress
them up. It also shows how they manage their time wisely. They took their time to iron their clothes and got them ready for the day. If not, they
would look like they just crawled out of bed and had no time to get themselves ready. It also reflects on their organizational skills because they are
able to tailor the look together and they get it ready for the start of their business day, which can also show how competent they are in getting
themselves ready. The competence doesn't stop there, it can also affect on how people see how competent they are at doing their job. If they are not
capable of getting themselves dressed appropriately, how efficient are they at doing their job? It can also lead to how serious they take their job. If
they don't care for how they dress to work, how serious are

Student Dress Code Essay
A popular debate topic in today's school system is the concept of student dress codes. The idea of a school dress code tends to mainly target female
entire however, males are still affected by it. Girls, no matter what their age or where they are from, are being sexualized for wearing clothing that
doesn't cover their shoulders. People are accusing young females of wearing "distracting" outfits, which is jeopardizing their male classmate's
education. Not only is this shaming girls, but it is also suggesting that boys cannot control their sexual desires.
Fortunately, Susanna Heller's article for the Insider titled "Ahigh school updated its dress code to be more bodypositive – and it's about time", discusses
a high school in Illinois that...show more content...
Her article discusses the many benefits of adopting this new policy however, it fails to expand on the main issues of the dress code debate and lacks
details regarding the topic of intersectionality.
The main topic of this article is how the new body–positive dress code will improve all students learning environments. This article takes a positive
viewpoint of the new dress code of Evanston Township High School in Illinois. The article does an excellent job explaining how this new policy
promotes an inclusive learning environment for all students. It also states that the new dress code "ensures that all students are treated equally
regardless of race, sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, cultural observance, household income or body type
/size" (Heller, 2017). This statement ultimately says the goal of the dress code is to combat intersectionality in the school. Intersectionality can be
defined as the interconnectedness of social categories that create an overlapping system of discrimination or disadvantage in society. In the course
textbook, factors of intersectionality include; social or economic status, race, class, gender, sexuality, ability, geographic location, citizenship, and
nationalities and/or refugee and immigrant status (Hobbs & Rice, 2013). By looking at the many factors of intersectionality, it

Essay about Dress Codes in Schools
The dress code, an essential tool for preventing people from offending others both intentionally and unintentionally. School, a place of education.
Education of necessary subjects for becoming a good citizen. Not education of outfits that show more than they hide. No matter what people say,
school is NOT a fashion show. Freedom of Expression, a true right that's true meaning is being demolished. The school must have control over the
dress code and enforce it. If the school couldn't control what people wear, just think what there control over the people would be! I intend to tell you
why I believe this in more detail.
Beer slogans and other offensive and truly inappropriate clothing must not be worn to school. It is argued that people see...show more content...
Younger kids look up to the older ones and see these inappropriate shirts etc, then copy it! Be agood role model and dress inoffensively. Some things
may seem funny to you but offend others. This is absolutely unacceptable. There are many clothes that can be amusing and not offensive. Your actions
can affect many. Make sure they affect adequately.
School by definition is an institution for teaching children or giving instruction to any subject. It is not an institution for showing off your
unmentionables. If a person were to care so much about their clothes, they could drop out of school and join the fashion industry. Fashion and school
do not mix though! Outfits that show too much skin can cause distractions from learning and promote sexual behavior. Now who in the world would
want to be thinking about sex rather than school? It's ridiculous and uncalled for. Some may argue it is necessary to have two different wardrobes in
order to satisfy the dress code's requirements, and have clothes that look good. This is too expensive they argue. Well there's a solution. Buy clothes
that look good, AND, meet the dress code's expectations. It's not THAT hard. Clothes that meet the dress code can look good too!
Freedom of Expression is being misused. Yes, everyone has the right to express themselves, but wearing inappropriate clothing is not the way to do it.
You could use words, pictures, music etc, but don't resort to clothes that don't cover nearly enough

Dress Code And Dress Codes
When it comes to dress code, every individual has a different viewpoint for its implementation. There are clothes that could be fashionable to one
person but seen as offensive to another. A dress code can be justifiable when put into a situation that really does require certain attire to be worn. It
gives a sense of formality and distinguishes an individual apart from a group. This report seeks to compare and contrast the characteristics of school
dress codes with that of dress codes in the workplace.
We form first impressions and overall judgments about people by the way one dresses. In the workplace, depending on what industry or company it is,
employee dress code can differ based on the situation. Those who work at a banking institution are generally required to dress in "suit and tie" or at
least business casual. In such workplaces, it is often required to abide by strict policies such as having to cover up tattoos and piercings whilst at the
workplace. The dress code is set because the appearance of an employee reflects the company and its values. Thus when dealing with the public, other
employees and in all other business relationships, it is important to conduct oneself in a courteous and respectful manner, which also entails dressing
appropriately.
At TD Canada Trust, a banking institution, on days with client meetings or when clients are expected in the office, business attire is required of its
employees. Professional business attire for women generally comprises

As the temperature rises, so do hemlines and the suspension rate. Students get suspended for violating school dress codes by wearing outfits that 'show
too much skin.' One can argue that revealing clothing is distracting, but some families and students agree that school dress code implementations end
up just shaming girls. Dress codes, the epitome of high school, teach girls to act ashamed, not modest. According to most school boards that come up
with the dress code, the outfits young women wear come across as too distracting for their peers, especially men, and make it unable for women to be
viewed by the public with dignity and respect. Everyday, school dress codes target females–especially females that are more developed. Any girl that
has ever attended public school knows about the struggle of a dress code. On those hot days as the school year approaches, girls pour over their
closets trying to find an outfit they won't get called out for or sweat to death in. All their dresses are too revealing, their shorts too short, and their
shirts reveal way too much shoulder–or so the schools say. Girls have been attacked time and time again with dress codes. Policies are almost always
directed strictly towards girls; some even specify for girls only. These dress codes are not only sexist towards women, but they limitfemale's freedom of
expression and their choice to feel comfortable, and they do not teach female's to have self confidence. Dress codes have some kind of restriction on
every single item of clothing, among other things, a girl can put on. Shorts and skirts have to be a certain length–normally mid–thigh or knee length.
Tops are required to have a certain size strap or sleeve, and bra straps are not allowed to be seen (God forbid a teenage girl wear a bra to school and
her strap is visible). No shirts that reveal midriffs are allowed either. Sometimes the amount of how much a girl's back is showing is restricted, too.
Leggings and yoga pants cannot be worn unless the shirt is long enough where the girl's fingers touch the shirt fabric, and in some schools they are
banned completely. One has to control the amount of cleavage visible, which can prove very difficult for any girl, especially those that

Persuasive Essay On Dress Code
A football player walks into school. He is wearing a white tank top that shows his toned muscles and a pair of grey shorts that come down to the
knees. This young man can walk into school without his outfit being given a second look. A normal girl walks into school shortly after. She is
wearing a white tank top that doesn't show to much but the top of her shoulder and a pair of grey shorts that span to her midthigh. This young lady is
stopped at the door of school and is told she is breaking dress code. Both these students where dressed in similar clothing items but the girl was stopped
Dress code challenges student's equality in the school
Although dress code is supposed to be gender neutral and connect to all students it seems that somehow girls are still unfairly treated by dress code.
Females are told that shorts must be fingertip length and even in some school's knee length. Girls are told that they must cover their shoulders and that
there is to be no cleavage showing. These rules don't always apply to boys. Boys can wear tank tops and shirts that show their shoulders. Female dress
codes are harder to conform to and have stricter rules then males. The rules are pointed more directly to females then to males.
School dress codes have an extreme effect on a student's emotional state. Dress code takes away from a student's creativity for both male and female
students. Although, it is noted that female students carry the burden of dress code closer to their heart. Female

School Dress Code And Anti Dress Codes Essay
Students have been affected by dress codes for many years. Others, for better or for worse, never had to deal with them. It has been debated for
years between parents, students, and school systems alike as to whether or not dress codes are appropriate to enforce. This essay will summarize,
make an argument, and analyze Krystal Miller's article on this subject, titled, "School Dress Codes". "School Dress Codes" is a 1990 article about the
issues surrounding various city's experiences with enforcing a school dress code. In the article, four different high schools in Detroit are examined, as
well as a school in Baltimore, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Depositions from both pro–dress code and anti–dress code persons are included. The
opposing end includes Mary Louise Starks, who is in charge of the psychological services for the Detroit school system and says dress codes are not
the solution to the violence, "A dress code is a temporary measure that is limited in scope. Students are committing these crimes because they don't
have a sense of power and self–esteem. They steal from their peers to gain control over another person" (qtd. in Miller 87). An example of a pro–dress
code student from the article is 17–year–old Jonathon Johns, a senior at Dunbar High School in Baltimore, who says, "Violence isn't as bad as it was.
There's no way to prove it's all due to the dress code, but I feel it's had a big impact" (qtd. in Miller 87). There are several testimonies and

Argumentative Essay On Dress Codes
It is of no possible argument that some of the most valuable and lasting ideas of life and the world around us are taught and learned at school. Hard
work does you well. Cheaters never prosper. Education is the key to success. Girls bodies are a distraction and objects to be inevitably sexualized and
harassed. This may sound over exaggerated, but this is the message beings sent to millions of students near and far by the sexist, self–esteem
demolishing, unfocused dress codes in schools today. This said, dress codes in schools create a negative environment, putting the focus on the wrong
things and ideas, both promoting rape culture and a strong sense of sexism. In this day, children can often feel as though they are at a loss of ways to
express themselves. With the heavy burden of societal standards, clothes are one of the only "acceptable" ways students have left to express
themselves with. The biggest and most relevant example of this today is Transgender and LGBT students, or those who identify with a differentgender
than the one they were legally born into. As said in The Movement Against Sexist and Discriminatory School Dress Codes, "Meanwhile, gender
nonconforming and transgender students have also clashed with such policies on the grounds that they rigidly dictate how kids express their identities.
Transgender students have been sent home for wearing clothing different than what's expected of their legal sex." This said, they way one dresses can

Appropriate Dress Codes
The norm I'll be violating is using an inappropriate dress code in a public place. This norm is used so people dress accordingly to most occasions,
although it is not stated, most people follow it due to the fact that El Salvador is a very conservative country. People tend to follow this rule
because they don't like to stand out or seem out of place. To violate the dress code I'll dress apt to go to a public place but instead of shoes, I'll wear
neon socks and act as if there is nothing unusual about the way I'm dressed.
Consequently I believe that the reactions people will have when a break this norm will vary; some people might not notice that I'm wearing socks
considering it's a small piece of my whole attire. Other might choose

The standards in high schools need to be adjusted so that they adequately represent that which a student needs to be able to succeed in their life after
high school. In Anaheim High School many of students who have not passed the CAHSEE will nevertheless graduate alongside students who have
been accepted to critically acclaimed universities all over the United States, the difference is that those students who for three years consistently failed
to meet the minimum requirements to graduate high school are not remotely prepared for the future that is to come. Although many will argue that life
and success is more than just test scores about the english language and basic math. While it is true that to be successful one must do more than high
test scores, having the basic skills to form a comprehensive sentence and being able to communicate with others is something that everyone ought to
know how to do in order to not have to depend on social security when those students finally reach the age of sixty

School Dress Code
School dress code is possibly one of the most enforced rules in today's school system. Despite the issues of drugs, alcohol, or dangerous weapons on
campus, the dress code system is clearly the most important issue in schools today. Who cares about the fighting, the bullying, or the education of
students? A teenage girl's shoulder being shown is obviously much more distracting and dangerous to the school environment than kids throwing
punches left and right.
Everyday girls express themselves in new ways through the way they dress. Pants started as being ripped once at the knee, then all over the leg, but
now they go as far as ripping holes straight through the back pockets! A girl's pants always send a certain message, such as "I don't care...show more

Because of a teenage boy's lack of control of their sexual impulses, the girls' educations are compromised. Girls whose clothes are seen as "distracting"
to the boys learning environment have had to go home and change their clothes, or in many cases change their shirt or shorts with unwashed, smelly,
hand–me–down PE clothes found left in the locker rooms year after year. The school dress code is said to enforce "cleanliness"; making a girl change
into a disgusting, pit– stained rag just because it her straps are half an inch smaller than required measures is perfectly

Persuasive Speech On Dress Code
It's that time of the year again, back to school. As much as I'll miss my 15 year old daughter, I am so glad that we are back in session, that is
unless we're talking about the Dress Code Blues. It is the third day of school today. My daughter casually informed us that she has already seen ten
students get "dress coded". Now, the paraprofessional in me knows that you have to start the school year off strong. You enforce the rules early, and
can relax a little once they are established and being followed. That's how it works in so many places, from group homes to high schools.
Curiously thought, I asked my daughter what the ratio was, boys versus girls, when it came to students being caught violating the school policy. In
response, she laughed out loud and waved me off as if the question had no validity whatsoever. I questioned her laughter, and she told me point blank,
"In my entire school career, 11 years so far, I have only ever saw one boy get in trouble for what he was wearing, and that shirt had the 'F Word' on it".
As we discussed the policy, and what was "fair" and "unfair", it occurred to me that this has always been the case when it comes to dress code and dress
code enforcement. Girls are the target. Girls bear the burden of what's appropriate and what is inappropriate, but why?
The hands down most common argument I have seen thrown around is that girls who break the dress code essentially instigate the boys in the
classroom. I've seen it posted time after time, "boys can't control their hormones" or "boys will be boys" or "they only think with what's in their
pants". As a father, I'm perplexed by this, as a father of a teenagegirl I am appalled by the excuse making.
Are we saying that boys can not be taught common decency, and that they simply can not stop themselves from giving into their own urges and desires?
Should we be implying that girls don't deal with arousal issues at that age?
Is it even safe to imply that it's somehow the responsibility of teenage girls not to incite the boys? Isn't that paramount to blaming the victim?
Do you know that an overwhelming majority of dress code rules are specifically targeted to girls? Read them from time to time...

A dress code is simply a set of rules about what clothing may or may not be worn to a school that each student has to follow. Almost every school
has a dress code that their students have to follow by during the school hours. Whether the students want to follow it, the policy can help them for a
job in the future, because they know what is expected of them. Dress codes in high schools in the United States should be enforced to promote
equality to every student to improve his or her educational and social experience. For example a school over reacted with their dress codes for
homecoming. In Utah, "Twenty–four girls were asked to leave" even though their dresses were not short or revealing (Ramos). "Although the school

Dress codes seem to be a hot topic in the workplace now days. What is considered to be appropriate and what is not? The Generation X and
Millennials have certainly caused human resource departments to begin reexamining dress codes in order to hire young, qualified employees.
Appearance in the work force can create confidence. Mark Twain himself stated "Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence in
society." (Reeves, 2006, para. 18)
While the younger generation does not fully understand the need for dress codes, nor do they recognize issues with hair color, piercings, tattoos,

many school's dress codes are harsher for girls than for boys and the excuse it that it impairs the boys' learning. Many people are for dress codes but
many are completely opposed to them. Dress codes are sometimes to harsh and it gives very few opportunities for children to truly express themselves.

Dress Code Essay

  • 1. Dress Code Essay Let's be honest, there is a common problem throughout many high schools. What is it you say? The answer is dress codes. "A set of rules specifying the garb or type of clothing to be worn by a group or by people under specific circumstances" (Dictionary.com). School are failing to address equally among women, but shame and sexualize their bodies. Social media post and news broadcast are storming the nation as more and more situations with girls being called out for breaking the dress code. This is something not just another problem the country should push aside, but to confront it and find a way to fix and improve the quality of life for all the students. "School dress codes have a serious sexism problem," an editorial by the Grand...show more content... 1044). The author points out that women's body are objectified and with dress codes it enhances the spotlight on parts of the females that would typically not be considered sexual– shoulders. It has been said over and over again that the way these girls are dressing is a cause for a "distraction" for the male students (Zhou, 2015, para.11). In a way schools are allowing students to continue this behavior for their future, making judgements on females based on what they are wearing. This is where rape culture comes into play. Dress codes serve to normalize rape culture, as women are pushed to feel ashamed of their body and what they show, as innocence as it may seem. Sarah Gordon, a Girl Up Teen advisor, says "rape culture, a building block of the patriarchy, says that men have the license to do almost anything they want, that women are temptresses, and that if a woman is a victim to a man's assault/harassment/rape, it is her fault" (2016, para. 16). Putting dress codes into play allow to continue the belief that women and girls are sexual objects and should be defined by that. Putting less stress on what a woman is wearing will allow stronger, happier women. I believe that my demographics have an influence on my opinions, specially on this topic. • 2. Argument For School Dress Code Brian Aguilera Mr. Rippon English 3, Period 2 4 September 2017 School Dress Code Argument Why can't people be happy in their own skin and feel confident in what they're wearing? Why don't schools let both boys and girls wear what they want? Of course, school dress code is more lenient on boys than on girls. Why can't girls wear crop tops to school without being sent to the office and being asked to change their shirt? And also not having to be getting judged by everything that they're wearing. Dress code may have made a lot of people not be happy with their own body, and have low self esteem, because school dress code has made them not feel comfortable in their favorite shirt or shorts etc. Everyone should have the right to wear what they want, even though there is limits students. Now granted, students should also understand that there are things that are inappropriate, but they should atleast be able to go to school and feel happy that, throughout the day they can have a good normal day at school without the students having to go to the office. We all know that there is different rules in almost all school dress codes that apply to guys and girls. For example, at some schools guys can't wear beanies during class but girls can. A girl can't have shorts that reach before their fingertips when they have their arms down. I personally feel like there shouldn't be "dress code" because for many people they like to express themselves by what they wear, why should schools make people feel uncomfortable? Not having uniforms can make the students feel competitive on what they wear and where they have got their clothes from. For some students those things do matter, but for some of them it doesn't matter they're going to school to learn, not to impress people at school. Some schools hate what their students wear to school, but don't they have like favorite pieces of clothing that they also love as much as the students do? If schools don't like what they are seeing in the student's "outfits" each day then they should start making students to wear their school uniforms. 15 year old, Miranda Larkin, was sent to the nurse's office for wearing a short skirt that violated the school dress code, and they made Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 3. Professional Dress Code in the Workplace Rosaura P Bernal EN 306 – Nadia H Morales Park University The first impression is a lasting impression whether it is at the office, a party, a lunch date or an interview. What you wear to these events can be either a positive impression or a negative one. That is why I think it is very necessary to have a professional dress code in the workplace if your place of employment is that of a professional setting such as a bank or even an insurance company. If the professionalism does not show on what the employees are wearing, how are their customers going to accept that they are professionals at what they do. The business could lose the credibility of how they handle their business. Nowadays,...show more content... The way an employee dresses up for work can impact on how a person perceives that employee. It can hold a positive or negative impact depending on where they work. You don't expect to find a personal banker dressed in skinny jeans, a bright pink polo shirt, and tennis shoes. You expect for them to be wearing a suit with a tie, polished shoes and be nicely groomed. By dressing in this fashion, you can see that the employee is committed to his job and place of employment and that they are responsible. By dressing otherwise, they would seem irresponsible and need their parent to dress them up. It also shows how they manage their time wisely. They took their time to iron their clothes and got them ready for the day. If not, they would look like they just crawled out of bed and had no time to get themselves ready. It also reflects on their organizational skills because they are able to tailor the look together and they get it ready for the start of their business day, which can also show how competent they are in getting themselves ready. The competence doesn't stop there, it can also affect on how people see how competent they are at doing their job. If they are not capable of getting themselves dressed appropriately, how efficient are they at doing their job? It can also lead to how serious they take their job. If they don't care for how they dress to work, how serious are Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. Student Dress Code Essay A popular debate topic in today's school system is the concept of student dress codes. The idea of a school dress code tends to mainly target female entire however, males are still affected by it. Girls, no matter what their age or where they are from, are being sexualized for wearing clothing that doesn't cover their shoulders. People are accusing young females of wearing "distracting" outfits, which is jeopardizing their male classmate's education. Not only is this shaming girls, but it is also suggesting that boys cannot control their sexual desires. Fortunately, Susanna Heller's article for the Insider titled "Ahigh school updated its dress code to be more bodypositive – and it's about time", discusses a high school in Illinois that...show more content... Her article discusses the many benefits of adopting this new policy however, it fails to expand on the main issues of the dress code debate and lacks details regarding the topic of intersectionality. The main topic of this article is how the new body–positive dress code will improve all students learning environments. This article takes a positive viewpoint of the new dress code of Evanston Township High School in Illinois. The article does an excellent job explaining how this new policy promotes an inclusive learning environment for all students. It also states that the new dress code "ensures that all students are treated equally regardless of race, sex, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, cultural observance, household income or body type /size" (Heller, 2017). This statement ultimately says the goal of the dress code is to combat intersectionality in the school. Intersectionality can be defined as the interconnectedness of social categories that create an overlapping system of discrimination or disadvantage in society. In the course textbook, factors of intersectionality include; social or economic status, race, class, gender, sexuality, ability, geographic location, citizenship, and nationalities and/or refugee and immigrant status (Hobbs & Rice, 2013). By looking at the many factors of intersectionality, it Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. Essay about Dress Codes in Schools The dress code, an essential tool for preventing people from offending others both intentionally and unintentionally. School, a place of education. Education of necessary subjects for becoming a good citizen. Not education of outfits that show more than they hide. No matter what people say, school is NOT a fashion show. Freedom of Expression, a true right that's true meaning is being demolished. The school must have control over the dress code and enforce it. If the school couldn't control what people wear, just think what there control over the people would be! I intend to tell you why I believe this in more detail. Beer slogans and other offensive and truly inappropriate clothing must not be worn to school. It is argued that people see...show more content... Younger kids look up to the older ones and see these inappropriate shirts etc, then copy it! Be agood role model and dress inoffensively. Some things may seem funny to you but offend others. This is absolutely unacceptable. There are many clothes that can be amusing and not offensive. Your actions can affect many. Make sure they affect adequately. School by definition is an institution for teaching children or giving instruction to any subject. It is not an institution for showing off your unmentionables. If a person were to care so much about their clothes, they could drop out of school and join the fashion industry. Fashion and school do not mix though! Outfits that show too much skin can cause distractions from learning and promote sexual behavior. Now who in the world would want to be thinking about sex rather than school? It's ridiculous and uncalled for. Some may argue it is necessary to have two different wardrobes in order to satisfy the dress code's requirements, and have clothes that look good. This is too expensive they argue. Well there's a solution. Buy clothes that look good, AND, meet the dress code's expectations. It's not THAT hard. Clothes that meet the dress code can look good too! Freedom of Expression is being misused. Yes, everyone has the right to express themselves, but wearing inappropriate clothing is not the way to do it. You could use words, pictures, music etc, but don't resort to clothes that don't cover nearly enough Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 6. Dress Code And Dress Codes When it comes to dress code, every individual has a different viewpoint for its implementation. There are clothes that could be fashionable to one person but seen as offensive to another. A dress code can be justifiable when put into a situation that really does require certain attire to be worn. It gives a sense of formality and distinguishes an individual apart from a group. This report seeks to compare and contrast the characteristics of school dress codes with that of dress codes in the workplace. We form first impressions and overall judgments about people by the way one dresses. In the workplace, depending on what industry or company it is, employee dress code can differ based on the situation. Those who work at a banking institution are generally required to dress in "suit and tie" or at least business casual. In such workplaces, it is often required to abide by strict policies such as having to cover up tattoos and piercings whilst at the workplace. The dress code is set because the appearance of an employee reflects the company and its values. Thus when dealing with the public, other employees and in all other business relationships, it is important to conduct oneself in a courteous and respectful manner, which also entails dressing appropriately. At TD Canada Trust, a banking institution, on days with client meetings or when clients are expected in the office, business attire is required of its employees. Professional business attire for women generally comprises Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. Persuasive Essay On Dress Code As the temperature rises, so do hemlines and the suspension rate. Students get suspended for violating school dress codes by wearing outfits that 'show too much skin.' One can argue that revealing clothing is distracting, but some families and students agree that school dress code implementations end up just shaming girls. Dress codes, the epitome of high school, teach girls to act ashamed, not modest. According to most school boards that come up with the dress code, the outfits young women wear come across as too distracting for their peers, especially men, and make it unable for women to be viewed by the public with dignity and respect. Everyday, school dress codes target females–especially females that are more developed. Any girl that has ever attended public school knows about the struggle of a dress code. On those hot days as the school year approaches, girls pour over their closets trying to find an outfit they won't get called out for or sweat to death in. All their dresses are too revealing, their shorts too short, and their shirts reveal way too much shoulder–or so the schools say. Girls have been attacked time and time again with dress codes. Policies are almost always directed strictly towards girls; some even specify for girls only. These dress codes are not only sexist towards women, but they limitfemale's freedom of expression and their choice to feel comfortable, and they do not teach female's to have self confidence. Dress codes have some kind of restriction on every single item of clothing, among other things, a girl can put on. Shorts and skirts have to be a certain length–normally mid–thigh or knee length. Tops are required to have a certain size strap or sleeve, and bra straps are not allowed to be seen (God forbid a teenage girl wear a bra to school and her strap is visible). No shirts that reveal midriffs are allowed either. Sometimes the amount of how much a girl's back is showing is restricted, too. Leggings and yoga pants cannot be worn unless the shirt is long enough where the girl's fingers touch the shirt fabric, and in some schools they are banned completely. One has to control the amount of cleavage visible, which can prove very difficult for any girl, especially those that Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 8. Persuasive Essay On Dress Code A football player walks into school. He is wearing a white tank top that shows his toned muscles and a pair of grey shorts that come down to the knees. This young man can walk into school without his outfit being given a second look. A normal girl walks into school shortly after. She is wearing a white tank top that doesn't show to much but the top of her shoulder and a pair of grey shorts that span to her midthigh. This young lady is stopped at the door of school and is told she is breaking dress code. Both these students where dressed in similar clothing items but the girl was stopped Dress code challenges student's equality in the school Although dress code is supposed to be gender neutral and connect to all students it seems that somehow girls are still unfairly treated by dress code. Females are told that shorts must be fingertip length and even in some school's knee length. Girls are told that they must cover their shoulders and that there is to be no cleavage showing. These rules don't always apply to boys. Boys can wear tank tops and shirts that show their shoulders. Female dress codes are harder to conform to and have stricter rules then males. The rules are pointed more directly to females then to males. School dress codes have an extreme effect on a student's emotional state. Dress code takes away from a student's creativity for both male and female students. Although, it is noted that female students carry the burden of dress code closer to their heart. • 9. School Dress Code And Anti Dress Codes Essay Students have been affected by dress codes for many years. Others, for better or for worse, never had to deal with them. It has been debated for years between parents, students, and school systems alike as to whether or not dress codes are appropriate to enforce. This essay will summarize, make an argument, and analyze Krystal Miller's article on this subject, titled, "School Dress Codes". "School Dress Codes" is a 1990 article about the issues surrounding various city's experiences with enforcing a school dress code. In the article, four different high schools in Detroit are examined, as well as a school in Baltimore, Chicago, and Los Angeles. Depositions from both pro–dress code and anti–dress code persons are included. The opposing end includes Mary Louise Starks, who is in charge of the psychological services for the Detroit school system and says dress codes are not the solution to the violence, "A dress code is a temporary measure that is limited in scope. Students are committing these crimes because they don't have a sense of power and self–esteem. They steal from their peers to gain control over another person" (qtd. in Miller 87). An example of a pro–dress code student from the article is 17–year–old Jonathon Johns, a senior at Dunbar High School in Baltimore, who says, "Violence isn't as bad as it was. There's no way to prove it's all due to the dress code, but I feel it's had a big impact" (qtd. in Miller 87). There are several testimonies and Get more content on HelpWriting.net

  • 11. Argumentative Essay On Dress Codes It is of no possible argument that some of the most valuable and lasting ideas of life and the world around us are taught and learned at school. Hard work does you well. Cheaters never prosper. Education is the key to success. Girls bodies are a distraction and objects to be inevitably sexualized and harassed. This may sound over exaggerated, but this is the message beings sent to millions of students near and far by the sexist, self–esteem demolishing, unfocused dress codes in schools today. This said, dress codes in schools create a negative environment, putting the focus on the wrong things and ideas, both promoting rape culture and a strong sense of sexism. In this day, children can often feel as though they are at a loss of ways to express themselves. With the heavy burden of societal standards, clothes are one of the only "acceptable" ways students have left to express themselves with. The biggest and most relevant example of this today is Transgender and LGBT students, or those who identify with a differentgender than the one they were legally born into. As said in The Movement Against Sexist and Discriminatory School Dress Codes, "Meanwhile, gender nonconforming and transgender students have also clashed with such policies on the grounds that they rigidly dictate how kids express their identities. Transgender students have been sent home for wearing clothing different than what's expected of their legal sex." • 12. Appropriate Dress Codes The norm I'll be violating is using an inappropriate dress code in a public place. This norm is used so people dress accordingly to most occasions, although it is not stated, most people follow it due to the fact that El Salvador is a very conservative country. People tend to follow this rule because they don't like to stand out or seem out of place. To violate the dress code I'll dress apt to go to a public place but instead of shoes, I'll wear neon socks and act as if there is nothing unusual about the way I'm dressed. Consequently I believe that the reactions people will have when a break this norm will vary; some people might not notice that I'm wearing socks considering it's a small piece of my whole attire. The school should be more focused on a student education than on what they wear. students have been told to change for wearing jeans that have holes in them and have missed lectures only because the teacher made that student go change because they have to uphold the decision of the school. In the District Website of AnaheimHigh School it informs the community about what their children can or can not wear according to the policy. Although many will argue that life and success is more than just test scores about the english language and basic math. While it is true that to be successful one must do more than high test scores, having the basic skills to form a comprehensive sentence and being able to communicate with others is something that everyone ought to know how to do in order to not have to depend on social security when those students finally reach the age of sixty Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 14. School Dress Code School dress code is possibly one of the most enforced rules in today's school system. Despite the issues of drugs, alcohol, or dangerous weapons on campus, the dress code system is clearly the most important issue in schools today. Who cares about the fighting, the bullying, or the education of students? A teenage girl's shoulder being shown is obviously much more distracting and dangerous to the school environment than kids throwing punches left and right. Everyday girls express themselves in new ways through the way they dress. Pants started as being ripped once at the knee, then all over the leg, but now they go as far as ripping holes straight through the back pockets! The school dress code is said to enforce "cleanliness"; making a girl change into a disgusting, pit– stained rag just because it her straps are half an inch smaller than required measures is perfectly Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 15. Persuasive Speech On Dress Code It's that time of the year again, back to school. As much as I'll miss my 15 year old daughter, I am so glad that we are back in session, that is unless we're talking about the Dress Code Blues. It is the third day of school today. My daughter casually informed us that she has already seen ten students get "dress coded". Now, the paraprofessional in me knows that you have to start the school year off strong. You enforce the rules early, and can relax a little once they are established and being followed. That's how it works in so many places, from group homes to high schools. Curiously thought, I asked my daughter what the ratio was, boys versus girls, when it came to students being caught violating the school policy. In response, she laughed out loud and waved me off as if the question had no validity whatsoever. I questioned her laughter, and she told me point blank, "In my entire school career, 11 years so far, I have only ever saw one boy get in trouble for what he was wearing, and that shirt had the 'F Word' on it". As we discussed the policy, and what was "fair" and "unfair", it occurred to me that this has always been the case when it comes to dress code and dress code enforcement. Girls are the target. Girls bear the burden of what's appropriate and what is inappropriate, but why? The hands down most common argument I have seen thrown around is that girls who break the dress code essentially instigate the boys in the classroom. I've seen it posted time after time, "boys can't control their hormones" or "boys will be boys" or "they only think with what's in their pants". Girls can not wear jewelry

  • 17. School Dress Codes Essay A dress code is simply a set of rules about what clothing may or may not be worn to a school that each student has to follow. Almost every school has a dress code that their students have to follow by during the school hours. Whether the students want to follow it, the policy can help them for a job in the future, because they know what is expected of them. Dress codes in high schools in the United States should be enforced to promote equality to every student to improve his or her educational and social experience. For example a school over reacted with their dress codes for homecoming. In Utah, "Twenty–four girls were asked to leave" even though their dresses were not short or revealing (Ramos). "Although the school believed that the dresses that they wore were not approved by the dress code"(Ramos). This is the...show more content... The Vietnam War was one of the most devastating wars. "The school planned to meet on December fourteenth to create a policy to ask any student who wears an armband to take it off, or they will be sent home"(Ozey.org). "The students did not return till New Year's Day"(Ozey.org) "John Tinker wore his black armband and was given the result of suspension". John wore the armband to show peace, but the school disagreed. The school did not stop John, he continued to wear the armband. Eventually the parents of John sued the school corporation. The parents and others ended the protest roughly. The students parents sued the schools district for violating the student's right of expression and left the school district was in the wrong for discipling the students. The district court dismissed the case, and held the school district's actions were reasonable. At the end the parents were disappointed that the court could not handle the case how they wanted it Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 18. Dress Code Discussion Essay Dress codes seem to be a hot topic in the workplace now days. What is considered to be appropriate and what is not? The Generation X and Millennials have certainly caused human resource departments to begin reexamining dress codes in order to hire young, qualified employees. Appearance in the work force can create confidence. Mark Twain himself stated "Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence in society." (Reeves, 2006, para. 18) While the younger generation does not fully understand the need for dress codes, nor do they recognize issues with hair color, piercings, tattoos, length of dresses or any other dress code, the traditional generation as well as the baby boomers understand completely. Mr. Polk knew going into the job there were dress codes and what the consequences of not following them could possibly be. Because FedEx did everything possible to accommodate Mr. Polk despite the dreadlocks, he refused to follow the rules. • 20. Dress Codes Research Paper Dress Codes "Do or Do Not" The school does not have the right to regulate any persons freedom. Dress codes can be harsh and can limit a child's creativity. The law gives every person man or woman their rights and freedoms a school system should not be able to limit those freedoms.
