2. INTERPRET BRIEF
• I have been given a project by Sunderland culture to produce a video
that shows the beauty of Sunderland and capture how many
opportunities there are in the city of Sunderland. I have been given this
task to promote Sunderland as a city and attract young adults to come
to Sunderland, either it be for university, work or just to visit and
experience the culture. My audience is for 16–22-year-olds so I am going
to have to implement different styles into my video.
3. VENUES, WEBSITES AND
EVENT LISTING:
Sunderland Empire:
Sunderland empire is a big focal point of
the Sunderland which showcases shows and
performances for all age ranges. It offers entertainment
to young people through the West end productions
that are showed there. This is alongside youth theatre
groups which includes the projects age range of 16–21-
year-olds.
This research gives ideas on what we can film
as cultural points in Sunderland and informs us
on information we can include in our video to show
what Sunderland has to offer.
Stack:
Stack, in Seaburn, offers loads of different events for
young people. As a retail outlet it has bars,
entertainment, street food and more while also putting
on cocktail events which fits the age range for over 18s
to 21-year-olds.
This research allows us to think what other events in bars
and restaurants may be happening over Sunderland and
what we may be able to include in our video.
Sunderland Freshers Week:
Sunderland Freshers allows young
students a chance to meet each
other and socialize. For our video
age range, this is a good event to
include as most people will
experience Freshers when they go
to college or uni.
This research gives me ideas of
similar things we can include in
our video which will appeal the
age range.
4. SUCCESS
STORIES
• Josh Kelly – boxer record: 16:1:1
• Jordan Henderson – footballer (Sunderland,
Liverpool)
• Jill Scott – footballer
• Jordan Pickford – footballer (Sunderland, Everton)
• Charlotte Crosby – legend
• The futreheads -
• Tom A Smith -
• From this research a lot of the famous people from
Sunderland are sporty. Sports figures will better
connect with the youth and fit into the 16-21
demographic.
5. Quotes
“Musicians and artists have always needed places to be, to share and congregate, and we hope we
provide that.” - Michael McKnight, owner of pop recs.
“Seeing people develop, grow and contribute to the cultural life of the city is what makes us tick.” - Laura Brewis,
Project Director of the Next Steps programme
6. SURVEY RESULTS
I done a survey to give me a better knowledge of what my audience
wants to see. I included around 10 questions asking the audience if
they are interested in the musical culture such as gigs and most of
my audience were interested. I was also surprised with the answers I
got from modern or old architecture as even though my audience is
young adults, they are more interested in old then modern and
interested in the history of Sunderland.
7. VIDEO EDITING PRACTICE
This is the western style video that I took part in
directing and editing myself. I believe this accurately
represents the western theme as while editing I
changed the colour scheme to a golden western style
which I believe was a smart idea and it also enhanced
my skills in premier pro as I never knew how to
change the colour scheme. My video captures the
essence of the era with my carefully crafted editing
and deliberate saturation. The colour grading I choose
evokes a sense of nostalgia with the chosen actors and
the colour scheme making them look like rugged
outlaws. I also believe the duel scene in my western
style video went really well. I believe my shot and
editing for this came out very well with the quick cuts
and close ups heighten the tension, emphasizing the
intense facial expressions in the close ups before the
duel.
8. WES ANDERSON
This is my Wes Anderson style short film that I
directed and edited myself. I advanced my skills a
lot while editing this short film by using transitions
for the first time, adding new text fonts on premier
pro, unlinking and linking audio and changing the
color scheme to fit the Wes Anderson style. I
believe the work I done in editing with the colour
scheme made my short film a whole lot better and I
also believe this different shots I chose were very
good and fitting with the Wes Anderson theme. I
carefully chose the sound for this short film to fit
with Wes Anderson as best as possible and I believe
this was the perfect one and one of the best
features of my video. If I was to do this video again I
would of took more takes of each shot as I felt like I
did slightly rush it instead of taking times and
9. RISK ASSESSMENT
This is the risk assessment for my shoot In Sunderland city Centre.
A risk assessment is a systematic process of identifying, analyzing,
and evaluating potential risks or hazards associated with a
particular activity project or situation. It involves assessing the
likelihood and potential impact of those risks as well as
implementing measures to mitigate or manage them effectively.
10. STORY BOARD
I made this story board to plan out my different type of shots for
my final product. I believe this story board was beneficial for me as
it helped me get a brief idea of what my final product will go like. I
did change somethings from the story board like adding in more
type of shots to make my final product just that good. I used
many of the shots I featured in my story board like the shot of the
church, the lion in the museum, and the fish in the winter gardens.
Overall I believe the story board was helpful and will be a regular
thing I do before every shot.
11. PRE-PRODUCTION
• 1. Location: The location of the photoshoot is in many public
places in the city centre. This will cause a wide range of
problems from people not wanting to be filmed to trip and
road hazards. To stop these risks, we can always be aware of
where we are walking to avoid any potholes or uneven
ground. To avoid unhappy members of the public not
wanting to be filmed we can always ask permission to the
person first or we can wait until there are no members of
the public visible.
• 2. Equipment and Gear: I must assess what equipment I will
be needing for this video shoot such as cameras,
microphones, tripods, sd cards and many more. I must check
in my college to see if there any cameras available to shoot
with.
12. FINAL PRODUCT
This is my final Product for Film in the city. Making this Short Form
video was very beneficial to me and helped me gain a lot of
valuable skills in video editing, audio recording and camera skills. I
had a lot of ideas for my final project and made many story boards
of how the short informational video would go. To fit with brief in
the end I decided to educational and outgoing audio recording to
voice over the video I put together. I believe this fit the brief and
also my target audience for 16-22 year old very well as the voice
over can keep people more entertained watching rather then just
reading fancy text off a screen. I also used a voice over as in the
new generation podcasts are a main source of listening
entertainment. I choose specific shot types in my video such as
the empire and museum to include historic points of Sunderland
as in the survey I include my audience was interested in the
history of Sunderland. I included shots of places like the fire
station and 1719 as my audience seemed to be very interested in
the musical side of Sunderland and these places are the main
attraction for gigs in Sunderland. Once I selected the best shots I
took I then edited my clips together by experimenting with many
different transitions and editing techniques like.
