1. Schedule and Resources
Week Production Task
1
Logos: This has no initial planning but it might
take part of the week to come up with ideas
and test them out. There is a lot to decide:
iconic/symbolic, logotype/wordmark or a
combination of the two and how to incorporate
that in to a design that fits in with the
campaign ideas. Also testing them out, if
something doesn’t work, it means going back
over resources and trying again to get
something that does actually work. I expect
this to be done within the week or even before
the week is over.
2
Poster: This includes creating concept
development, thinking about:
positive/negative, purpose, action, audience
and the existing campaigns/issues to
cover/look at for ideas. It also includes
creating a mind map, an outline of the idea
(about 100-200 words) and finally, production.
Testing out a few ideas and if they don’t work,
trying again – giving myself a week for this is
probably a very good idea. I plan for the initial
planning to take up to a day and a half or two
(maximum) and the production takes up the
other 2 days and half.
3
Membership Form: This includes initial
planning before production, thinking about
whether it’s a new or old customer, adding in a
promotional deal, including important things
like direct debit logo and charity number,
contact details, reasons to join, which images,
fonts, logo am I going to use, full colour or
limited? To do this, I need to create a flat plan,
which includes: annotation, example images,
options, orientation and format. Giving myself
a week for this too also sounds like a good idea,
as it’s a larger project. I plan for the initial
planning to take up to a day and a half or two
(maximum) and the production takes up the
other 2 days and half.
4
Merchandise: This does include initial
planning, including creating a mind map to
look at other surfer related merch,
companies/styles, art work, text/imagery,
shapes, typography and so on. I could also use
Redbubble to put mock up ideas on to for
different types of merchandise, to show what it
would look like as a finished product. I think
giving myself a week for this is a good idea, it
means I can make sure everything is up to
standard and that I am doing the work one
hundred percent right. I plan for the initial
planning to take up to a day and a half or two
(maximum) and the production takes up the
other 2 days and half.
2. Contingency Plan
Week Contingency Plan
1
If, within the first week I finish this
task before the end of my scheduled
time – move on to task two.
If I struggle with production or the
idea, make sure I have plenty of other
ideas, fonts and resources I can use
straight away to catch up with time.
If I don’t finish in time, move on to the
next project and try to go back if I get
free time at any point over the next
couple of weeks.
2
If I use 2 days or over for the initial
planning, make sure that everything is
linked to resources or I have a backup
idea in case the initial idea doesn’t
work.
If I finish the task early, go on to the
next one as soon as I can.
If I finish late or don’t finish at all, try
to go back if I get spare time during
task 3 – as long as I don’t have anything
to catch up on for task 1.
3
Using 2 days or more for the initial
planning is okay as long as I very
hurriedly catch up.
Make sure everything is resourced and
easy to find in case an idea doesn’t go
through and I have to start again.
If I finish late or don’t finish with a few
bits left, try go back during free time in
task 4 as long as I don’t have anything
left from task 1 or 2.
4
Initial planning is important for this
one, make sure that I have indepth
ideas and mind maps to refer to in case
I need them.
Make sure everything is resourced and
easy to find in case something doesn’t
work and I have to try again.
If I finish late or don’t finish with a few
bits left, try go back during free time –
try to complete any unfinished work
from task 1,2 or 3 as well.
