Audience research
Audience research
Audience research is normally primary research; which means this is done first
hand by the company so they get specific results. For example the company
may use questionnaires to find out the needed information. Audience
research is split into three segments which give the people who are
producing a new product a better idea about what to make to maximise profit.
The three segments are demographics, psychographics and geographics.
These are useful because they give the company precise results; which allow
them to know what they have to make.
Demographics- Demographics are the quantifiable statistics of a given population.
Demographics are also used to identify the study of quantifiable subsets within a
given population which characterize that population at a specific point in time.
This is puts things like questionnaires in number form, making it easier to see
clearer what types of audiences like what.
Psychographics- Psychographics are the study of personality, values, attitudes,
interests, and lifestyles. Psychographic studies tend to be in questionnaire and
survey form, these show what type of person the target audience is and how much
money they will be willing to spend on a specific product. This gives companies a
better idea of what the targeted audience want and what they need.
Geographics- Geographics are the
Market research
Market research is research of other products that are similar
to the companies product, this is done so the company can
find a niche; a gap in the market. For market research they
look at stuff relevant to their product to give it the edge over
other products. They tend to do focus groups to find out
what products their targeted audience like, then they find
out what they like about the product and then they try to
apply the acquired information to their own product. They
also look at the competitions prices and product
layout, which they base their product on so they do less
work and can improve the product as well as making it their
own. Market research would always be used in the
preproduction in making a product. Market research is
useful because it reduces the possibility of the product
failing and not making any profit.
Production research
Production research is research based on the production of
work; this is how the product is made and how much it costs.
Production research can be linked to market research
because they both research stuff based around the
competitions product. Production research mainly finds
information out about the competing companies products
prices, styles layouts, slogans and targeted audience. You
would use production research before you create your
preproduction, this is so that you can use your research to
find your target audience. Production research is useful
because it helps identify your target audience, it gives you
key features to apply to your product and guidelines to help
create the advertisements.
