2. What was your initial concept for your final
project and what were the reasons behind
your choices?
The initial concept for our final project was to have a action themed gangster
Italian Mafia movie set in the past following the story of a young apprentice
called Johnson Figueretto who wants to fulfil his father's wishes and to continue
the legacy before he dies by killing the bloodthirsty notorious gang Illotelli
Ragazzo.
The reasons for us making a action themed movie about the Italian mafia is
because we really like action themed movies as they are usually the most
successful in the film industry. In addition we was inspired by other Italian
themed movies such as The Godfather etc. This is why we wanted to make a
mafia movie which could exceed other mafia films.
3. How has your research and planning helped
you develop your final project?
• In preparation of making our film we did huge amounts of research and planning
such as secondary research and looking at other Italian mafia movies online and
getting inspiration from them and see how they are produced and what the
soundtracks sound like etc. In addition to this we also created a survey on a
website called monkey survey so that was primary research as we were getting
direct answers from the audience/customers. We also found about data
gathering agencies that gather TV ratings and radio ratings such as BARB and
RAJAR.
• Also we did lots of research on opening sequences to movies as we where
making a opening sequence to a film, we watched the opening sequence to a
film called Donnie Darco and saw how it was produced and how it opened up
with a soundtrack and a long shot.
4. Who would be the audience for your final
product?
• The audience for our final product would be people who like action themed
movies, also it would be 18 aged people or over as our movie is rated 18 as it has
lots of violence and there are use of guns and knives etc.
• It could also be targeted towards Italians as it is a movie set in Italy so they
could be inspired to watch it to see how it is, and if you’re not Italian it could
inspire you to watch to see how it was in Italy with the mafia and you could learn
a lot about it etc.
5. How did you attract/address your audience?
• We attracted our audience and addressed them by creating a magazine article
and lots of poster designs that we would put on billboards and on buses etc. And
our magazine article would be produced and uploaded online to the internet
where the whole of the world can see it. So doing this would attract many of
audiences as lots of them use social media and are on phones and computers
where they would be on the internet and can find our magazine article online.
• And also if they are travelling somewhere such as taking the bus or going on the
train they would see posters of our film which would also attract our audience to
come and watch the film. And we have a website about our film on WIX so if you
our audience want to find out more about our film they can go onto our site and
find out more about it.
6. What have you learnt about media
technologies from the process of constructing
this product?
• Over this hard working period I have learnt huge amounts of useful information
about media technologies such as using DSLR cameras, using a tripod,
microphones and so much more such as editing the films on premier pro
software. I learnt a lot about editing such as cutting out footage which was not
needed, adding sound effects such as gun shots and adding soundtracks which
are being played over the footage and also adding a monologue which is being
played over the footage too.
• Also I found out about lots of different camera shots to use which would be good
to use in the film using the DSLR camera such as over the shoulder shots and so
much more etc.
7. How closely did your final product resemble
your initial ideas and expectations?
• Our final product being our final version of the film Johnson Figueretto did
resemble our initial ideas and expectations because everything went according
to order and to the script this is because we followed everything to the story to
try and make it as exact as possible, however we did make a few changes
because the plan was to start the film in a corner shop but we changed it so that
it started in a restaurant with Johnson and his girlfriend dinning. But over all our
film did meet our expectations and even exceeded our expectations as we added
in gun sound effects to our film and even got a house to film in and we got
permission to film in a restaurant being pizza hut from the manager so we
actually exceeded our expectations.
