Language Objectives : At the end of the lesson Students will :
1. Be able to fill in the missing words after listening to the
song;
2. Be able to practice pronunciation with the appropriate
intonation;
3. The comprehension and discussion question encourages
the SS to draw their creativity and imagination;
Methodology
Assumptions Students already have their basic reading skills and vocabulary of
their level.
Resources 1. The sound clip of the song “Green Green Grass of Home”
2. Printed lyrics of the song to be distributed to the SS;
3. Printed lyrics of the song with some blanks to be
distributed to the SS;
4. Hand outs with comprehension questions
5. White board ;
6. Projector
Lesson Procedure T = Teacher , S = Student , Ss= Students
Steps Procedure Time
Pre – activity 1. T ask students about their favourite types of music 10 mins
genre. e.g. Folk, Jazz, Ballad etc.….
2. Who is your favourite singer…
3. T asks students if they have heard of “Johnny Cash”
4. T ask SS if they know of any of his songs
5. T tells the SS that they are going to listen to one of
his well know song for their listening lesson.
Activity 1 1. T plays the song once continuously, SS are asked to
listen attentively;
2. T ask SS if they caught on the gist of what the singer 15mins
was singing about;
3. SS are asked to share their thoughts;
2. 4. T distributes the hand out with lyrics of the song 20 mins
with some blanks ;
5. T plays the song for the 2nd time , this time Ss are
required to follow the song and fill in the blank lines
with what they hear from the song;
6. T discuss with the Ss on the missing words/verbs
7. T writes down S answer on the board and compares
with the correct verbs
8. T reinforces the grammar point which is mentioned
in the lyrics and notes the grammar focus on the
white board.
Activity 2 1. Each S is given a printed sheet with 9 questions
relating to the songs ? 15mins
2. E.g. What are the four grey walls surrounding the
singer ?and so on ….
3. Ss write their answer based on their understanding;
4. T guidesSs on the correct use of verbs and tenses
and adjectives.
5. T encourage Ssto be creative in their answers and to
think out of the box;
T collects the answer sheet at end of the lesson.
Post Activity 1. T hands out instructions for each S to identify a
genre of music they like.
2. Find suitable pictures and support it with key
information e.g… history, famous singers and etc..
3. Also write a short summary why you like this genre
better than the other ;
4. Assignment to be handed over to T the following
week.
