To Whom It May Concern:
Beginning in early 2015, Teresa Lane began assisting me with what we have termed the University of
Pittsburgh School of Education’s “Digital Signage,” which is a screen on the 5th floor of our building that
visually displays events, news blurbs, and stories. Up until that point, I had previously designed, ran, and
scheduled signs for the item, which, to give some context, used software that was very difficult to learn.
Therefore, I was initially impressed with Teresa’s enthusiasm for diving in and learning the software.
Organized and diligent, she was determined to learn the often-difficult technology of the sign that was
unfamiliar to her when she first started the role. I very much appreciated having Teresa’s help with this work
effort, which is an important one within the school for helping build community and awareness. Many times I
have received emails from faculty and students sending along a particular piece of news in an attempt to “get
it up” on the sign, which speaks to its appeal.
On an ongoing basis with the project, Teresa and I developed a good rapport, with me collecting content and
writing it, and then sending it along to her so that she could use her abilities to design a visually appealing
sign. Even if someone emails with a last minute sign request, she has been good about responding and
providing a quick turnaround. And the designs have been appropriately fun, serious, dramatic and so on,
depending on the subject matter. In a few instances, she also helped with designing flyers for degree
programs as well as creating staff and faculty profiles for our Intranet, which were completed with the same
efficiency and quality.
I also know that she is pursuing a degree through Pitt’s College of General Studies (CGS), during which time
she has received the Newman Award and the Luiso-Steele Scholarship, all of which speaks to her interest and
desire in continued education and learning. This is something I applaud her for.
In my experience, Teresa is a hardworking, enthusiastic designer with a constant desire for learning and
improvement. On a personal level, I often found her to have an upbeat and sunny demeanor with a smile on
her face. I therefore recommend Teresa on a personal level, as well as for her work and abilities, and am
happy to give more details if you would like additional information.
Sincerely,
John A. Conroy
