LETTER OF REFERENCE FOR EXEO KHOKELA FOR THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE
DURBANVILLE CENTRAL COLLECTOR SEWER (PHASE 1)
The abovementioned project in Durbanville entailed the installation of a new 500 mm dia collector sewer with
a total length of ±3,000 meters through open trench excavation mainly in existing roads and restricted areas.
It further included the construction of 51 no. manholes, diversion of existing sewers into the new bulk sewer,
realignment of existing services, crossing of various roads and the rebuilding of roads complete with road
layers and kerbs. This required extensive liaison with local residents and continuous traffic accommodation
in residential areas.
The contract value at completion was ±R 11,95 million (excl. VAT) which, although higher than the original
contract value, was only due to an expanded scope of works, unforeseen additional work required and the
many difficulties encountered when working within in a built up area. The contract was completed
successfully within 8 months which is nearly 3 months less than the construction period of 48 weeks as
prescribed in their contract.
The quality of their work and the final product delivered to the Client was of an exceptionally high standard.
Their efficiency in critical situations is evidence of their competence to deliver a good quality product to the
satisfaction of the Client.
Exeo Khokela had a positive attitude during the entire contract period and eagerly assisted the Engineer and
Client to resolve unforeseen issues under testing circumstances. Their contracts manager, Mr Charles
Cooks, and site agent, Mr Terence Ismail, who were both directly involved with this project on a permanent
basis acted professionally throughout and conducted their tasks with diligence and pride.
Worley Parsons RSA would fully recommend Exeo Khokela in its capacity as civil engineering contractor for
similar construction projects in future.
