2. Propagation: The process of reproduction or multiplication of a plant from the
mother plant is called propagation.
There are 2 types of propagation methods:
• Sexual Propagation
• Asexual/Vegetative Propagation
Grafting
Air-layering
Cuttings
3. Propagation by Grafting:
Grafting is a method of asexual plant propagation that joins plant parts from different
plants together so they will heal and grow as one plant.
Cleft grafting
Eg: Avocado
Apple
Pear
Plum
5. Propagation by Budding:
Budding is a method of propagation in which only one bud of desired scion is
inserted in the rootstock.
T-Budding
Eg: Almond
Apricot
Mandarin
Pear
Sweet orange
7. Propagation by Cutting:
A cutting is a piece of vegetative tissue that, when placed under suitable
environmental conditions, will regenerate the missing parts and produces a self-
sustaining plants.
Hardwood cutting
Eg: Grape
Fig
Pomegranate
Kiwifruit
Hazel nut
Chest nut
Gooseberry
